There are many considerations to be made when figuring out how to best defend yourself and your property. Unfortunately there's no way to be everywhere all the time to keep an eye on things. The solution is obvious: cameras! What's not so obvious are the many issues, settings, considerations, and maintenance it takes to actually make it all work.

This can be a place to discuss the ins and outs of video management systems, IP cameras, video storage, analytics, and the tools it takes to keep it all going.

If you're wanting to really sink your teeth into things, check out Intelligent Network Video by Fredrik Nilsson (ISBN-13: 978-1032534718, ISBN-10: 1032534710). It's literally the textbook on Security Cameras, and it's pretty solid on showing the basics.

I'll post some how to's and other related things here too.

Reolink may be chinkshit, but it's cheap and works well and lets you have the choice of cloud/hybrid/local storage only. It supports FTP, so I'd recommend having a separate file server for longer-term video archiving, only relying on the NVR for quick access to recent footage.
