I think I've just got depression but my father got diagnosed with SAD so I'm wondering if it's genetic [nature] because he didn't really raise me [nurture]. I'm not even living 'up north' with snow, just maybe overcast/ foggy sometimes.

SAD is known to have a strong hereditary component. If you don't want to get an evaluation, just wait until the light starts to increase, if the depression doesn't start to lift, it's not SAD.

There's also some content creator who has a "how to stop rotting" series that I found helpful. Shifting your perspective from "Oh fuck, I've wasted the whole day, look how dark it is outside at 5pm" to "I still have ~7 hours to make it a good day". Taking little steps, like just doing 5 minutes of yoga or stretching in bed at first.
Would you mind linking that series?

My seasonal depression is in the summer when its too hot to leave the house in daylight, which also lasts half the year where I live.

I am living my best life in the brief period it's cool enough for me to actually wander about in daylight.
Huh. Would have thought the opposite since all the bugs and herps are hiding in the winter, for the most part anyway. Plus you’re above the gnat line. That being said my biggest recoded indigo (she was approx. 5ft.) sighting was in January…but it was south of Valdosta.

Herps are great but feeling like the probe in Satan's colonoscopy isn't.

Probably the most striking thing about Libya vs Ga is the humidity, the temp is similar, but 90 in Ga feels like 120 with the dew point being what it is. Moving to the UK hearing these people complaining about a dry 90 degrees is hilarious. Much respect to the absolute mad lad Englishmen who settled the swampy ass Deep South.

The deep south is a shithole unfit for human habitation

Now Android, don’t be a debbie downer. Most of the planet is a shithole, you just have to make the best of it and keep on going. Enjoy the sun and go for a hike at Sweetwater Creek.
I'm on meds that increase heat sensitivity. I'm nocturnal half the year for a reason.

Sweetwater is great but there's no public transit there. If I'm not going with friends I'm not going.

Enjoy the sun now while it’s not hot as balls is what I mean. Marta has stops near Morningside and Cascade Springs Preserves, Inman Park if you want to go to the other side of town, or even Piedmont Park if the tourists aren’t out in droves. It sucks to live in the States with no car tbh, you still have to walk a good bit after getting off public transit, but the exercise is good.

I moved a floor lamp to be in front of a mirror I hung, that also catches some light from my (small and sad) window in my home office. Its reflecting light a lot more around the room now, and makes me feel a bit more awake during the day? I wish I had more windows, or windows that dont have double pane seal failure causing them to be cloudy/blocking light. But I feel retarded not doing this mirror thing earlier. I might go get several mirrors and arrange them around my house to help distribute more light.
Plus, maybe I will care more about keeping my hair brushed and styled if I see myself during the day.

Anyone here got bipolar and find it gets worse during winter? Like seasonal depression makes your mood issues worse in regards to the bipolar also?
There are a few studies, I have a good one below. I think you might be on to something. I just had a quick look at them with a part of the conclusion of the linked study being:

"In conclusion, the high prevalence of SP in BD, its associated clinical characteristics and the observed differences between genders, suggest that SP represents a potentially important specifier of BD."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5225270/

If you are interested to dive a bit deeper you can check out the referenced studies. If they are behind a paywall you can go to sci-hub which is a great tool. Just copy the DOI link and put it in the search field. There is a high probability that it is available. This is an incredible tool everybody should know about!

I have used those lights during collage and they worked pretty well. I moved and I just stopped using them because I didn’t know where to put them. I’ll try to find a way to implement them back into my morning routine. It is quite violent having a strong lamp shine into your face when you wake up, but it definitely speeds up the process of waking up. I even had a timed connector that would power on the lamp on my nightstand at the same time my alarm would go off.
I don't know if this is helpful, but the light doesn't need to be shining directly in your face to work. As long as it's in your line of sight, it will be effective.

Personally, I use a Verilux model that I really like. It has adjustable warmth and brightness settings and is unobtrusive enough to just put on a shelf.

The happiest and calmest person I've talked to in years was a mail carrier that walks 10 miles a day and gets a lot of sunlight. A lot of seasonal depression cases could be cured with this.
Haha damn, 2 family members fucking died this year.
Any suggestions on helping anxiety after that? On meds and they worked fine before but not rn.
I'm sorry, thats horrible. I hope you are doing better now.
sunlight, hydration, nutrition, exercise are the most straightforward. It might help to reach out to some other family members. What brightens my mood in the winter is planning my garden for next year. I live for it. You could try growing things inside if gardening is not possible in your situation

Plan something you can look forward to on the week-ends. If you don't have any obligations, get out of the house and do something. That's helping me at the moment. You can either use it as time to reflect and process what you are going through, which is not easy but can be necessary, or as a distraction. Sorry for the late response, I must have forgotten to answer :(

Bipolar 2 -- I don't get manic, I just cycle from "content" to crippling depression and then I go back to baseline after a period of time (usually not more than 2 weeks). Winter always fucks with me though. Honestly it just feels like everything bad happens in Winter.

Over this last December, my grandfather died, my childhood dog died and I was there to witness it, my mother and grandmother stopped talking so now both call me to vent (they're both also cluster B, its purely genetic, I'm a natural-born retard), I just got the news I have to find new living arrangements, my man lost his job and hasn't been able to land a new one (he also broke his leg which narrows down the work he qualifies for because he was a blue-collar laborer without a college degree) and I got a suprise promotion because my boss quit so I have to fake it until I make it 8 hours a day. I love the rain and cold but jesus fucking christ every year, with out fail since I turned 18, shit hits the fan in winter and I cant even enjoy it... I just wanna read a book, get a little high and enjoy the sound of the rain pattering on the roof god damnit.

Outdoors into the daylight as early as you can. Bit hard when the sun doesn’t really come up until after you’ve started work but try any excuse to go outdoors for just a few minutes and again at lunchtime.
Vitamin D may not have any studies to support it but I supplement anyway because I live somewhere cloudy and dark and the sun is t strong enough sep to April to make it from skin/light and everyone deficient round our way.

Alternatively, a cheap week in the sun in January or February does wonders and if I ever win the lottery I’ll be buying a little bolthole a la continent (or an island off…) and living in it from Christmas to march
