It's a pity a lot of malls are going to hit the rails trying to replace their anchor tenants like Sears, means higher rates for the other stores, and the knock-on effect of that. A lot of $15 dollar an hour jobs in retail about to disappear along with it.

I wish they'd do the same in the US it's like looking at a blind deaf dog that somehow made it to twenty and is begging for death

Same thing happened when Target pulled out of Canada, tons of people lost their jobs and so many malls have an empty Target shaped hole in them.
What's worse is when Target went down Sears was one of the companies to offer former Target employees a shot at a job at Sears. Now those people have been screwed twice!

K-mart, which merged with Sears many years ago, is angling for the same fate. It's sad, and it goes to show how rough it is to try and compete in an industry with Walmart, Target, and Amazon.

Sears had a lot of issues over here too. Both Sears and K-Mart let their stores age and decay instead of upgrading them and adapting to the times. It's why say, Best Buy is still around while Radio Shack isn't.

It doesn't help that the CEO is an actual Objectivist and basically turned his staff against each other to the ruination of the chain.

I thought Target's story in Canukistan was because they bought a dying big box chain and excepted somehow to turn them around as Target stores.

Zellers wasn't really dying but it sure wasn't growing, it also had some of the worst real estate in a lot of places especially small towns, that dragged Target down no doubt.

But the biggest fuck up of all was their total failure at supply chain management and Info Systems.

Yeah the Target launch in Canada was a nightmare, they couldn't get stock in for weeks so people walked around an empty store saying "where's da merchandise"

To be honest, I'm not really upset about this at all. Considering that they've always had ridiculous prices on their merchandise, along with shitty customer service, it's a mystery to me as to how they've managed to last this long.

It sucks that there are people losing their jobs though; with Canada's job market already being rough due to the influx of unskilled people looking for work.
