Under Saddam Hussein's rule, five different ethnic minorities in Iraq started getting along with each other, Young Iraqi teenagers with talent were sent at government expense to universities in the west to bring and improved knowledge base back to the country. Unlike other despotic regimes, such as Russia or North Korea, quality of life in Iraq improved.

If it wasn't for the fact that he simply tried to control the entire oil supply in the Middle East, which I don't blame because everybody in the Middle East is doing that, he could have had nice relations with the United States. But even great men falter sometimes.

He started the Iran/Iraq war because he thought the new Iranian government would be weak. The war lasted for 8 years, netted neither Iraq nor Iran any land gains and is only remembered today because both sides were no holds barred gassing each other throughout the conflict. Yeah he was totally a competent leader (that couldn't even win a war against a state that had just been founded).

He was good at internal security. He would probably be remembered as a competent if somewhat harsh leader had he not come down with an addiction to invading other countries. There's a conspiracy that America tricked him into invading Kuwait by pretending to be okay with it just so they could have an excuse to beat up on a weaker country. But if you're stupid enough to get tricked like that you only have yourself to blame anyway. Iraq was actually a decently rich country back in the 60s and 70s, it probably still be if Saddam had focused on building up the countries infrastructure instead of fighting wars.

Yes, that was a folly, as stated in the op which you didn't read because you're a histrionic faggot. Otherwise he did a pretty good job bringing stability and peace to Iraq.

Saddam was an awful father. His children all grew up to become psychopaths because he never properly disciplined them. And his Stalin-larping was cringe.

For a while, but then he got hammered with all those negative events that reduce your ruler's mana and started making retarded decisions.

I don't like the third-worldists who whitewash people like Saddam and Gaddafi because they opposed muh AmeriKKKa, but his rule was still better for the people of Iraq then whatever came afterward.

He was our tool for a while miscalculation. no longer was useful. Against Iran? To a point, but Kuwait was major miscalulation.
