Stalker is a household name even for people who don't play the games yet it's in such a sorry state. Yet, Silksong and Elden Ring drop, somewhat meet expectations, and still fade into obscurity a few months later. Gaming gone bad for all the wrong reasons.

the Anomaly guys ported it to 64-bit
IIRC the initial 64-bit port was that of Open X-Ray, on which Anomaly's Monolith Engine fork is based on. Thing is that it's Anomaly, and everyone sees it as the only STALKER game nowadays so it overshadows all the accomplishments of the entire STALKER modding community. There's also OGSR which is a modernized fork of the SoC engine with a ton of QoL additions, and there's IXRay that adds stuff that even Anomaly doesn't have, like DLSS/FSR/XeSS upscaling and native PBR implementation.
And yet it looks and runs better than GSC's opus magnum that is STALKER 2. But, you know, about 90% of the STALKER modding community is Russian so it's verboten to speak of their work that GSC directly profits from as Griga allowed for use of GSC's assets and code under a very Jewish agreement that it's still their IP and everything made using it is still theirs, so all the community mods for example.

I find the fact that Anomaly is the most well known stalker mod, to be really funny, when you consider that it sucks at every level, and is done better by everything else. It's not good to mod since the tech debt from being a COM and Last Day strip down comes to bite it in the ass, it's not good to fork since you could just use OGSR, OXRCOC, IXRAY, AXRAY etc. etc., it's basic as fuck in the department of freeplay considering it neither has depth or width when comparing to COTZ or DAE, it doesn't commit to it's own style like AREA, the stories fucking suck and there is no reason to play them, the warfare mode is basically just COC and you could play TFW or Global War.
It truly is just the tunnel vision that keeps people playing Anomaly. It suprises me how little overlap Anomaly fans have with anything else in Stalker modding.

I'd never heard of IX-Ray, Stalker modding might be the peak example of a lasting modding community.

I think GSC were in a harder spot than we might realise. I don't think they had the resources to experiment with new engines. Choosing UE5 and going with the industry standard (taught at gaming courses etc) makes sense on paper.

With that said, Road to Vostok is coming along really well, and that was made with Godot and a single dev contracting out asset work.

But how much of that stuff is easily accessible? I can just go to ModDB and snag all three games in one download with Anomaly and have a reasonably feature-complete setup ready to go. I'm not trying to sound like too much of a casual fag, but that is something to take into consideration when it comes to getting fame.

Stalker failed because it's not actually that good.
A while back I pirated the original one just to see, and it's honest-to-god borderline unplayable trash, where somehow turning up the difficulty is the only way to even make your character able to aim.
Everything looks like mud, everything feels awful, the AI is lobotomized, none of the characters communicate like human beings, massive amounts of bugs obviously...it's almost worse than a bargain bin asset flip on steam. Just on a moment to moment basis I was astonished at how awful it felt to play.

It was so bad I was actually insulted that fuckers online even dare to try to pretend like it's some outsider masterpiece. You look it up what's supposedly good about it and these ass-fingering retards go on about -the world- or some stupid shit.

I also pirated the 3rd game to see if it at least ever got better, and it was ok. It wasn't amazing, but I wasn't insulted. It's janky and the environment (anomalies, etc.) isn't realized to its full potential, the pacing of the game feels a little strange beyond the first half, the final area really loses the survival feel and is more about military shooter fare, but I finished it and was disappointed there wasn't more.
Still there are a lot of better games out there; aside from navigating the before mentioned anomalies (which almost feel incidental and poorly integrated into the world a lot of times. They're just weird fenced in areas where fire spews from the ground or gravity is wonky or whatever), you'd be just as happy playing one of the fallout games.

That's probably why it was forgotten. A bunch of retards online decided to pretend this awful-to-ok series was some shining gem just because they want to pretend they're auteurs who appreciate unconventional non-AAA videogames, then the public tried it and realized oh hey, this actually isn't very good. I've been mislead.

Yes it's a name people know, but that's because autistics online pretend it's good because they have autism and hear other autists online pretend it's good, so they pretend it is too.

Global War
I don't know if anyone cares, but version 0.5 should be released in December. Hopefully they fix some of the bugs instead of just adding another gorillion factions.

Today, Global war turned 3 years old! Triple hooray! 👍🏻

I think it's time to announce the month of the update release. The new version of Global war Beta 0.5 will be released in December 2025.

⚠️ The main news on the mod will be only in the Global war telegram channel, join - https://t.me/+24n9cSdZKi5iN2Iy

They sent all the competent programmers to the frontline to cut costs

Plus anomaly is mostly used as a base for modding, who the hell plays vanilla? They're still gonna have to go to moddb to download addons.
Came here just to write this. This is like adding the fucking Script Extender but leaving all the mods on third source websites.
Pretty sure most of them dipped to poland or something lmao
Most of them relocated to Czech Republic, with a minority working remotely from Ukraine iirc
