New update on steam and Garry publicly address the hotdog people changes.

He's going to keep making adjustments to the model, but at least acknowledge that at some point he has to scrap them.

Behind this non committal half-admission there seems to be a baked in unwillingness to face the reality that he probably already killed his product

Delusionally, he believes there is plenty of time to fiddle with and fix it, when all enthusiasm and interest in it is already dead and there is no clear way to bring that back
 
I remember a good 6 or so years ago, I would play in a Gmod server that I really enjoyed, Swamp Cinema. It's still active and probably still fun.

One day, I logged on and as soon as I spawn in, I heard this guy ranting like a maniac out in the courtyard. It's not abnormal to hear people mic spamming and they're easily mutable but this guy wasn't actively spamming, he was just pissed off. He was stood on top of a short wall and was surrounded by a group of 15 or so people, just staring, not a single person was talking back to him and he was yelling something like:

"People like you are the reason that Gmod is dying! You don't use your mics, you don't socialise, you just stand there! It sucks, now! And Garry is working on Ess And Box'" (that's how he repeatedly pronounced it) "and when that game comes out, everyone that actually wants to play the game is gonna move to Ess And Box and Gmod is gonna be done!"

And ever since the game officially launched, I've wondered on occasion what that guy thinks of Ess And Box, now. Was he happy with the launch? Does he still play in that server or even play Gmod at all? Maybe he never even touched the S&box beta. I hope he's well.

Worth remembering that a considerable portion of the S&box community actively hates Garry's Mod players and calls them "gmodcels" on discord
 
Nice quirk chungus responses by Garry as usual. "m8" in 2026 jesus christ this guy is old, he'll probably make a chocolate rain reference next.

Anyway, nice to see Garry acknowledge that this shit sucks, even if it's manifesting as cope instead of actual change. I'm sure arguing with randoms on twitter will really change how people feel about the game.

Unfortunately, even if he did take out all the AI stuff, there would still be a long, long list of issues:
  • Game runs like shit
  • Sausage models suck
  • Items are worthless + economy is dead (I'm being generous and treating these as one singular issue)
  • No players to make games for
  • No games to play
  • Garry + FP constantly antagonizes their customers
  • Identity crisis: can't decide if it's an engine or a game
  • oh I almost forgot GARRY IS LITERALLY AN AUTHORITARIAN DICTATOR WHO BANS EVERYONE - he would ban those twitter randoms from S&box too if he knew their steam accounts
There's probably more I forgot but you get the idea.
 
If anything, this F2P weekend will only worsen the public opinion of the game because everyone trying it out will realise it's (still) garbage. lol lmao
