Sotsu is out now. I'm going in; if the forum's still up when I do, I'll give my thoughts either as an edit to the post or a separate post.

Holy fucking shit that was garbage. I am not putting it into spoilers, I'm laying it all bare.
Here's the thing: Had Gou actually started out showing us Rena's point-of-view of what might've been Onikakushi-hen instead of stringing us along with a bait-and-switch of a remake, while I still have issues with how it was presented here, I would've been much more interested from the word "go". Giving us a bait-and-switch of Tsumihoroboshi-hen after learning the true cause of what's been going on is frustrating and perhaps insincere.
But also it's gone to further prove the character assassination is real. It's not just Satoko, either.
Quick "Lol quality" jabs here before I get into what rustled my jimmies:
Why does Keiichi's mother only wear one earring? That's fucking gay, yo.
Let's look at Rina. Her new design is awful (not that the tube top she's known for wearing is any good, either, but I hate her hair and face here), and her new voice-actress isn't good, either. I don't know who it is, but she's real lifeless.
Rina also isn't affiliated with Teppei here, which is why the moments leading up to her untimely demise is fucking insane and absolutely disgusting. For one thing, just like Teppei, they're trying to humanize an actual shitty character so we could feel bad for them later.
This is the only character "development" we get, she is otherwise a literal nobody. There's no badger game, no sense of self-preservation, no other half, nothing. Why should we even care about her interaction with Rena and her father? She's legit not a threat like she was before. If anything, Sotsu is suggesting Rena's dad is just real careless about his money spending when he only spent that much money beforehand because Rina was asking for shit as part of the badger game.
So when Rina dies, she's actually an innocent victim instead of a cunt who tried to off Rena just to get her face smashed in in self-defense. Rena plotted out to kill a woman she had never met, and we're supposed to root or feel sorry for her? Doesn't matter that it's Satoko's fault for making her crazy (Satoko injects her with Hinamizawa Syndrome), and the show can try to play this off as Rena not being in her right mind all it wants, but even before she was injected, she was real suspicious of the woman her father was seeing and having a slow mental breakdown over losing her family again.
The whole point of Rena and Rina is that Rina symbolizes Rena's past coming back to haunt her. After her father was betrayed by his ex-wife, Rena just wants to keep her family small and safe. Rina was a legit threat, but Rena didn't suspect her of anything malicious until she accidentally overheard her and Teppei at the café. In Sotsu, she goes out of her way to try and confront Rina despite never having met her, and when Rina entered the café in which her friend name-dropped her in earshot, Rena doesn't even bother sticking around to hear what the woman had to say. She just decides to leave and plot to kill her.
Rina shows up at the house just to talk, and Rena lures her to the dump where she was going to kill her anyway, and freaked the fuck out when Rina entered her hideout to get out of the rain. And she pursued her in the rain to land the killing blow.
Rena is an actual fucking murderer.
Ryukishi forgot his own fucking moral.
And this is what Satoko had to say as she witnessed the entire thing:
How does Rena killing an innocent woman make Rika stay in Hinamizawa you stupid fucking bitch?
To sum up my entire feelings on this debacle:

This is all what it comes down to in the end. It's going to be praised to hell and back just because lesbians confirmed.
