It'll be like Symphogear, but they're kicking ass to Fluffy Time. Now I wanna see the K-On girls fight evil with the power of....light music.
Now that is an anime that's more appropriate to be compared with RWBY.It'll be like Symphogear (...)

| No 80s training montage | Main protagonist and her mentor have a Rocky styled training montage while singing the theme song of Police Story in its native Cantonese! |
| Not a single villain has a song | Season 3's main antagonist has a villain song that is one of the best songs of the entire franchise |
| The villains are wasted characters and ineffective speds | The villains are colourful, goofy, eccentric and memorable |
| The show's biggest star voiced a secondary character, but was fired over an obvious bullshit sob-story by some fat and ugly thot, thus depriving us of his talent (RIP Vic | The show's biggest star is none other than Mizuki Nana, whose voice is still making everyone pregnant |
| The staff and especially VAs are a bunch of speds and spergs | The staff and especially VAs are adults that have their shit together |

I'd recommend anyone reading this to watch Symphogear if that list hasn't convinced you already. It too has its problems of course, but dear God and Saint Nicholas does it ever out-Chad RWBY by light years.
Sorry for the wall of autism!
XV > S1 > G > AXZ = GX. You're not going to convince me otherwise.Symphogear's first season is absolute garbage.
I agree. Also, while I'm here, this new episode isn't that bad. Fight me. It's not perfect, but it's... alright.
Granted, but these skirmishes against minor Grimm make me shake my head. Watching Penny (the super smart combat robot) stab a Mammoth in its bony face-plate instead of a much more vulnerable point like the back of the knee, or the throat, or even the eyes? Why doesn't Ruby use her Semblance and drill through a Mammoth's eye socket in a torrent of black blood? Do they just not want to show gore, or would that scene be too hard to animate?Just saw the episode. I must say that visually, they got their shit together. There wasn't a lot of the mo-cap stiltedness that plagues the rest of the season and the fights were pretty decent for what it's worth.
Yeah, guess what happened: She vouches for Ironwood and puts a stop to the artificial drama. Dumb. ass.But her dying wasn't part of the plan at all? Why leave her alive, if only to create a loose end that could vouch for Ironwood later to put a stop to this artificial drama?
My best guess is they wanted to create some drama, but had a hard time doing so (like they've had happen pretty much for the last 3 and 3/4 volumes so far) with a character so OP as Penny is. As for Ruby not using her semblace, I guess it's because of how chaotic the setting was in-universe, though why she never tried again after that first time I dunno, probably ties back into my previous hypothesis regarding the artificial stakes at play.Granted, but these skirmishes against minor Grimm make me shake my head. I hope so!Is Salem still going to show up with her army of flying monkeys (...)

Also last week's episode was such a non-entity it practically invalidated all the tension this season. Jaques rises to power almost effortlessly, just as the enemy planned, only to be shot down again without much effort or fanfare. Ironwood and Robyn go live and announce to all of Mantle about Salem's existence and it immediately calms everyone down, no questions asked. Perhaps it's the "eleven or twelve episode per season" limit, but this season has a very artificial feel to it. As in, the drama feels very manufactured, with the resolution being something they could've done from the start, making it feel very anticlimactic.
It feels anti-climatic because the show wastes huge amounts of time doing nothing for 8 episodes and then tries to cram a finale into the last two episodes (ala "Rise of Skywalker"
) at a breakneck pace. It's like the writers forget how much time they have each season only to be reminded after wrapping up episode 9 each year.
Well, when it was on Netflix, the volumes were one long uninterrupted thing. Here's the thing though, I don't think that the writers are actually writing the series as if it were an episodic series, but rather as a full length movie. It would explain the inconsistent episode times, the sudden turns...
And whatever.

It's literally one of the most basic concepts of writing a show like this. You have a story to tell over a season's worth of episodes. So if you have 12 episodes a season then you can pace the story out and then lead to a climax at the end, and everything is split into separate episodes which can each be part of an overall story or an individual story each. This feels like they didn't even plan this out before they started and threw it together as they made it. The lack of any real flow to the story, even on a basic level, is staggering.
I'd say the main difference is that early RvB was comedy that was never supposed to be serious. It wasn't until YEARS later that they even tried to write a serious story but even then the show's focus (at least during the original run) was comedy. You can be a bit looser with the writing and not make complete sense with comedy. And also early RvB was made by complete amateurs who were flying by the seat of their pants anyways. They were a group of friends making something for fun at the time, compared to RWBY which is supposed to be a fully produced show with professional writers and animators. RT has grown far beyond recording lines in a closet with a crap mic. They should have a better writing process.... Honestly, it kind of reminds me of the RvB early days, when a lot of it would be just that - Weekly episodes that were made on the fly. It's pretty much impossible to do this, but it reminds me of early day Fanfiction writers - Who would do what they could in order to please their fans.
The only way I could even imagine that happening is if the animators made a ton of different scenes, and a lot of them ended up on the cutting room floor.
Conspiracy theory for me I guess.
And yeah it does feel like fanfic writers but Miles and co. are supposed to be professional writers, not people writing in their spare time for fun. But I'd even go so far as to say not even good fanfic writers. A good fanfic writer will write a good story. RWBY feels like a fanfic written by a person who is desperate for attention and throws in things just because they're popular.
Yeah, Miles has an ego and the look of a man that loves the smell of his own farts. I’m not sure if punchable, but he’s really made RWBY and it’s fandom into a massive hugbox for him.I mean, it certainly would explain this:

I'm not sure if this was shared in the thread (and I'm too lazy to search so sue me), but I think this is a bit of telltale sign of why the writing is so mediocre, and that's because Miles only seems to value the criticism of those in his field. Which, don't get me wrong is important, and he even acknowledges that randos on the net can have a good point - But it's really weird.
Personally, part of the reason why I dislike Miles is because he'll straight up call people assholes who called him out, I remember back in Volume six, when the preview for one of the episodes was released that there was an animation error - It was pointed out to him, he snapped back and said it would be fixed... But it wasn't. I think it was something about seeing a woman's foot under a building she was walking past.
Despite what Miles says, we already know that what they consider valid criticism is "Not enough Blake in this week's episode" and this infamous clip:

Edit: Side note, is it just me or does Miles just have one of those really punchable faces? Especially with that stupid grin?

Not only that, but any actual criticism is written off as coming from “haters” or “the hatedom”. Seriously, go to RTX or any other panel and see how they want fans to treat them with kid gloves and any actual criticism is ignored as not coming from “real fans”.I don't think it's been posted here.
The whole idea of only valuing what other professionals say and refusing to listen to your actual consumers when they criticize your work is ridiculous since you're writing for your consumers. And honestly it's just an attempt from Miles to silence criticism by telling anyone who says his writing is flawed that they're idiots who don't know what they're talking about. Rich coming from the glorified intern who became a writer for the show by being thrown at RWBY when Monty wanted other writers. He acts like he's so high and mighty when he can't even write a single coherent story. Yeah you're gonna have to sift through the criticisms to see what's legit or not but that comes with being a writer.
And while he whines and throws a hissy fit when he's criticized the reason the criticism against his bad writing got the point where people were just insulting him was because he ignored criticism and fired back in the first place. He created a hostile situation then whined that people were big meanie faces. He hasn't actually listened to any criticism and attacks people who dare say his writing is anything but flawless. And RT is a complete hugbox so no one there will criticize his work.
