Despite the faults, & after watching, I can still remember finding the basic premise interesting enough to give a watch. It was a letdown for many of the reasons mentioned, though I haven’t seen much said about how the basic premise was still catchy enough (despite the faults & overdone cliche of it all,) & still is- to some degree, as new viewers keep finding RWBY.
There are so many plot holes, & things we’ll never know, due to Monty’s death, & the lack of a solid leader & creator partway through S3. RWBY already was a barely cohesive thing being shaped loose, slow, & unprofessionally. With the creators death, it got looser, too many leaders, ie too many cooks ruined the broth, & just went in many directions at once. It got sloppier, no more singular vision from someone who despite his faults (Monty) actually thought up something kind of interesting. The state of it now, being at least 5 people vying to be highest up on the coattails of the dead creators creation. Disorganized.
Any “it could have been saved,” aside, it might work in the future if someone could obtain the rights, flesh out plot holes, & create a good work. Fan works tend to show that the premises could work, adapted. I liked the fan work, iirc, Kuma from Taiwan, created, Henceforward (I think it’s also linked in OP itt.)
RWBY is ok, also bad, cheesy, & a kind of a neat idea, barring weird shit on the production side, from a company that has continued to sink in various ways to various audiences. I’d still recommend watching it if curious. It’s pick & choose.
