Eh, most magical fantasy fictions have some kind of shape changing included. If anything, hers is more of a cockblock than most, since most of it seems to be fairly shallow cosmetic changes and/or temporary. Polyjuice lets them mimic another individual for a short period, not become them, the characters that do it seem to spend the entire time acutely aware that they're imposters, and then they revert back to normal. Which makes the instantly clockable tranny in the game even funnier. Guess even magic has limits, yeah?

But also, devil's advocate here, but I find the general complaining about her 'world building' to be pretty autistic, because it misses the nuance and so misses the point. She wasn't writing a Tolkien-esque high fantasy, she wrote whimsical children's books in the tradition of authors like Roald Dahl. That means you don't spend years planning out a whole spergy magic system where you hammer out the intricate technical mechanics of how it all functions, you write what serves the plot, and just as importantly, what's silly. Her entire fantasy world is built on humor, puns and little referential jokes and general goofiness, not optimizing specs. Even her infamous 'wizards used to just shit on the floor and magic it away' comment is making fun of the historical myths (maybe) around how royals and their courtiers used to conduct themselves in 17th and 18th century palaces, particularly Versailles. And this is why despite having gone to wizard school where he's presumably been taught how to do a wide range of cool spells and shit, Harry never seems to remember many more of them than the flashlight spell, the fetch spell, the anti-fetch spell, the illegal spells, and ends up casting 'punch' in the heat of the moment more often than not because he's just not that bright. Because it's funnier that way.

My money's on after he looked at what she's said, he's stuck in the 'good liberal' mindset where he thinks it's all some big misunderstanding and you can mediate your way to peace between the two sides. In other words, realizes that her positions are more or less reasonable but hasn't fully grasped the unhinged, tyrannical lunacy of the troon menace yet. For a long time Warhammer has been naturally insulated from the "wider audience" because it's not an accesible hobby. Expensive minis that require time and effort to make them look good on top of lengthy and complicated rulesets are a natural barrier against a lot of dimwits and retards, and that's without counting the extensive lore. Women played it but they were an abysmal minority since the core audience of warhammer is war obsessed turbo autists.

It was done steadily for multiple years before they hit current debacle of "You know all the stuff that we used as the basis of our lore for nearly 50 years? If you want to argue that she isn't actually as good at writing children's books as George Macdonald, Arthur Ransome, or Roald Dahl and other greats then I'd agree perfectly. This is late and not terribly topical, but I like looking into old fandom stuff. I don't remember getting this impression when I read the book but I was pretty young at the time.

I went to fanfiction.net and did a search of the Dumbledore/Grindelwald pairing and sorted by date - there were 179 results total (pretty small for such a large fandom) and 46 of those works were released before the release of the movie in 2016. Before the movies I think it definitely counted as a rarepair.

I read it as a young adult, and the insinuations were definitely there. I think the reason there isn’t too much fanfic of them is because most of the fanfic writers are and were either 1) teenage girls who don’t care about old men, or 2) pedophiles who loved the gross adult/kid shipping.

In a lot of cases the troons are just attracted by what's popular. Their tastes and likes are just following fads and believe me that if Warhammer didn't saw multiple games hitting the mainstream audience these people wouldn't know what the hell is a Sororitas or a Necron.
