can't lose as a tidus laugh farmer, but can as someone not wanting blockbuster ip (x) next up on the chopping block beside lotr (rowling already pozzed it a good bit but it ain't been fucked as good as it could yet)
number of problems with the show and casting, the big one is that clearly the entire ip management's desired response to troons isn't ignoring/dropping hammer on threats until they learn to keep their mouths shut, it's to still cater, still try to "we're not the baddies, we're not connected at all to jk whatsoever". the only way to "win" against troons for hp is to full face-to-pavement shit akin to how nintendo does and not to baby them or defend them. even if they just completely avoid terms or languages for them and just keep it to "threats etc won't be tolerated". but even with things like the hp game which had money just dumped into and out, with all troons screaming and crying and mass threatening anyone who played it and admitted it, still need to implant troons etc. i don't foresee that changing which makes all new hp content high risk of pozzed.
first problem with snape/other casting is that snape has been known as rickman, white, pale, etc, hermione was known as emma watson, for (drumroll) over 25 years. all marketing and presentation and representation is that. second is that paapa's track record, especially compared to rickman, is trash. no i don't care he was in black mirror for 2 eps. he will not care about the script or character or his performance etc as much as rickman did, objectively. his presence is also shit, he looks like he's fixing to be in a Good Burger reboot. even comedy typecast actors like keegan michael key have a better face and presence and emotion control to present "is he the villain?" while also being able to look very nice when they desire. it all seems very "i don't care who the actor is, as long as they're (x)" which is the problem with majority of diversity casting. michael clark duncan nearly made green mile, and he's the most badass/scary representation of kingpin to me, obv black people can act, but they hire the worst fucking people. it's not like "ok, rickman was beloved, is the public perception of the character so we should get a similar look and vibe, BUT, we got prime samuel jackson or some shit who's going fully method and has been working on this character in secret for years and will work for less", it's, "oh! i remember you! effeminate black man #3!"
the nail in the coffin though is that clearly, if both hermione and snape etc are being made on purpose to be black, particularly hermione since that was the troon fan fic for decades, that's some real smoke for who knows how much fire underneath. potentially blatant mudblood = racism, potential troon/non binary characters, luna lovegood being pushed hard as autism representation or some shit. i'd wager they're going to go, yet again, real fuckin hard on "i fuckin LOVE troons, i fuckin HATE the creator of this ip and fans"
