ABC has created a spinoff to hit sitcom Roseanne without Roseanne Barr following the racist tweet that saw her fired from her own show.

The new series is being made under the working title The Connersand will reunite Roseanne stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert.

Roseanne - a revival of the long-running sitcom which ran from 1988 to 1997 - was swiftly axed following a racist tweet involving former Obama adviser Valerie Jarett.

The Connors will run for ten episodes and Barr will have zero creative or financial participation. The show's producer revealed that she agreed to a settlement in a bid to prevent 200 cast and crew members from losing their job.

In the now-deleted racist tweet that prompted the cancellation of Roseanne, Barr described Jarrett, who is African-American, as a combination of “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes [sic].” She later blamed her tweets on the sleep medicine, Ambien.

Earlier this month, she claimed that her racist tweet was not racist at all but was instead denouncing anti-Semitism.

No, bad sneasel.
Roseanne Barr has never been funny. She's an obnoxious attention whore and does the same shit all the time. You know that thing she did where she went and cried about what she said after the fact when she was fired. She did the same damn thing back when Bush was in office. She's lucky the show has always had a good cast, she's total trash.

She's a shock artist. She's always been. The only difference between bush era shock and well, now, is the people reacting.

By the logic of attention whore, George Carlin was also an attention whore. If Carlin was alive I'm sure he'd be torn apart.

The difference is that one is entertaining and the other is a bag of garbage. Carlin wasn't the brightest and used creative language to help make his points more salient but I feel he respected his audience enough that when he attempted to embed messages about how he feels our culture is and how it should change he was intellectually honest. Roseanne just wants attention, period.

I mean I guess if you don't like her that's fine but she really did well with her show back then, what even with all the controversial shit in it, and you can't say the success had nothing to do with her.

The next big thing will be "Married with Children without Husband", starring Katey Sagal.

edit:

followed by "The Tanner Family"

I'm glad wonderful people like Sarah Gilbert made a lot of stink about how disappointed they are in one tweet of an actress she knew for years was saying crazy offensive shit online and willingly came back to work with her anyway is still able to keep the show going so that she can keep her paycheck the little folk can keep working.

Why the fuck is this Roseanne instance specifically bringing up the poor little people who need their jobs? I don't recall anyone talking about the stagehands and gophers that might lose their jobs when Kevin Spacey got House of Cards in trouble or when Jeffrey Tambor did the same with Transparent. I know both shows didn't get cancelled over it like Roseanne but there was talk of it and no one was talking about the little people regardless.

Roseanne Barr is her own brand of crazy but this is just the icing on the fence-sitting double standards cake.

Let’s be fair, Roseanne Barr had a good sense of humor, it’s just she didn’t get better gigs or attention because she wasn’t a size 0

I think we passed the Double Standards City Limits quite awhile ago when plenty of comedians can make beheading "jokes", openly call for the rape and murder of Trump's children or ICE agents and generally just insult anyone within fifty feet of him however they please, and nothing ever happens to their movies or TV shows, and the media never calls any attention to them. Meanwhile, Roseanne says that Valerie Jarret looks like one of the monkey people from Planet of the Apes one time, in a Tweet, that's deleted within the hour, and suddenly she loses every deal she ever had.

Granted, I don't give much of an arse either way because I haven't owned a television for more than a decade and I had no plans at all to watch the show online, but even to someone like me the double standard is just alarmingly obvious. As long as you're pulling the Popular Hollywood Opinion you can do and say whatever you want, but apparently if you so much as blink at that line while you're standing on the wrong side of it, the rule seems to be: Fuck you, get out.

Is comedy even a thing these days? Is it allowed to be "shocking" or "offensive"?

Or is it just women talking about their vag and not much else?

Comedians who tell the jokes they want to tell and stick to their guns instead of engaging with the SocJus crowd seem to be fine.

But it should be noted most of them are leftists and wouldn't dare say today the kinds of things Carlin said.

I'm pretty sure that amazing Robin Williams HBO stand up from around 2000 would be considered too shocking for fuckers these days.

The thing about this that baffles me is... what the hell was she even trying to say? Like, even as a racist insult, saying someone looks like a cross between the nation of islam and the planet of the apes doesn't exactly make sense. Like... neither of those are people. One is a group of people, the other is a movie franchise.

I mean, getting shows cancelled over outrage that someone said something with.... I guess racist overtones... seems stupid. Professors at publicly funded schools are openly saying "Fuck White People" and "White men are a problem" but oh my god a shock comic said something weird and shocking, stop the presses and get the fainting couch!

Yes, the double standard is maddening. Yes, roseanne appears to be fairly crazy. No, I wasn't going to watch the show anyway, although the idea of showing a trump voter as a human rather than a nazi demon was nice.
