UK Rogue Devon Gypsy site to be shut down - There have been wrangles over the land for years

The Gypsy site at Chardanay, Woodland, Ashburton

Councillors have voted to shut down an unauthorised Gypsy and Traveller site despite being warned that it could make people homeless. Teignbridge's planning committee heard the move is the latest in a long list of applications, enforcements and appeals over the land at Chardanay between Ashburton and Denbury.

One part of the site is authorised to provide three pitches. The other is a strip of agricultural land which has been the subject of enforcement action before.

Mobile homes were stored there without consent and a report to the committee said that last year people had started living in them.

The report summed up: "There is no lawful reason for the mobile homes to be sited on the land for residential purposes."

Cllr John Nutley (Lib Dem, Ashburton and Buckfastleigh) said: "There's a lot of history here so many applications and so many enforcement notices. The site owner has made no attempt to stop its use for residential purposes."

Cllr Andrew MacGregor (SD Alliance, Bishopsteignton) said he is concerned for the people living on the site, and questioned whether a proposed six-month period for the land's owner to comply with the enforcement notice would give them time to find somewhere else to live.

The committee voted by 12 votes to two to go ahead with the enforcement, and Cllr Suzanne Sanders (Lib Dem, Chudleigh) told them: "It's a clear breach of the rules.

"There's no point in us having any planning rules at all if we don't enforce them."

Good. Although, they'll just be the next villages problem.

I found that in the UK people don't hide their contempt for travelers as much.

In Ireland they're viewed in the same way that Americans view Native Americans: down-trodden indigeneous victims. However, peoples privates opinions on them coincide with reality: 'lyin' theivin' fuckin' pikeys!'

A presidential candidate, Peter Casey, a while back did say something unflattering about them squatting and he shot up to like 25% in the polls from just a couple %.
 
Terrible news, this benefits British 'entities' I wish nothing but a million gypsys in each town for the crime of being British
 
I thought they were exaggerating about gypsies before I went and visited my grandparents during one of their migrations where they stopped at my grandparent's town up Norf.

A couple of adults came to the door and my grandfather told me to watch the garage. I was confused by this but sure enough as soon as my grandfather engaged the adults up front, a couple of kids hopped over the back garden wall and headed for the garage.

Gypsies can't be homeless if you exterminate them.

You can dig a trench big enough for all the gypsies in a couple days.

American Gypsies are the dead fuckin' worst. They'll show up at some old lady's retirement trailer, tell her they'll put a "code compliant" driveway in for her, dump a shitload of tarmac, spread it around (just cold patch shit) and charge her $5000 before she knows what's happened. Then there's the ones who cruise around mall parking lots looking for dented cars and offer to "fix" them (bondo and spraypaint) for $500-$1000 with some goop that'll flake off and fall out as soon as it dries and cures. The paint will wash off in the first strong rainstorm.

Then there's the smash and grab bullshit they pull.
I fuckin' hate 'em.
