They want over $10 million dollars in combined reputation and punitive damages for their shit?! Are they that fucking dense? They had to have just pulled a bunch of numbers out of their ass, because anyone who as seen their games can assure you; they were nowhere near a multi-million dollar brand.

Also $4.3 million for being triggered by people on the internet. :story:

Is this in the UK? That's the worst libel jurisdiction in the world.

I still don't think Jim has much to worry about even there, though. Nothing these brainless idiots can claim entitles them to shit.

Update: *sigh*

This fucking retard thinks people are seriously going to donate to a shovelware shit factory to engage in frivolous litigation?

Nah, they're in the US, AFAIK. Jim has more of a case against them as they threatened to dox him and tried to set up really lame "Gotcha!" moments.

you know if you have enough money to buy assets for your shitty games and pay steam 100 dollars per game to get your crap on greenlight you lose the ability to whine about not having money

I believe they are trying to make this case go forward in Arizona. I'm not sure if their libel standards are more strict than other parts of the US, but I still believe they are going to be laughed out of court. How can they prove blatant disregard for the truth?

Here's the main thing, if you can't get a lawyer to take your money-lawsuit on contingency, that should speak volumes to your chances of actually winning.

If this is filed in a state court, Jim should just probably immediately remove it to federal court where they have less tolerance for utter bullshit. Pretty sure there's diversity jurisdiction.

Then these pinheads are likely to run out of money to even pursue the case if they're already begging for tard bucks.

Ehhh, even by UK Libel law I can't see this going too far on the basis Jim Sterling is a journalist with a largely recognized following and his whole job is the review and commentary of such things, and at times on a more satirical level. This would be treated in the same way as a lot of the batty attempts by various idiots charging libel here. (Which we don't reform because it allows our lawyers to make a lot of money in spite of libel cases frequently going nowhere)

The rep damage towards Digital Homicide is negligible on the basis they have about the same reputation as Arthur Dailey, and look dodgy as anything as is, indeed it could be argued that mocking reviews such as Jim's and We Broke, driving traffic to his games that wouldn't otherwise have existed without the exposure.

Jim in this situation is very much like the magazine Private Eye, a proto shitposter magazine from way before the internet was a thing. It's never been sued successfully for libel typically because it never posts aught but the truth.

In fact, the attitude Robert from Digital Homicide has taken actually gives Jim a much larger case for slander. Robert is insulting, aggressive at times and clearly doesn't understand half of the stuff he tries to talk about even on a vaguely casual level. Calling Jim a leech and a horrible person on the basis of his job could be a case for Slander in the UK's own Slander and Libel laws. Which is kind of funny.

I seriously doubt they can even prove lack of truth. Everything Jim has said about these clowns is either objectively true or an opinion.

It also doesn't help that Robbie boy went on to post the 'Review a reviewer' Developer Meltdown video (which Jim has mirrored and himself commented over with all the fury a highly sarcastic English gent can muster, crying with laughter). The entire video is piled with potentially libelous comments, thing is it's not actually damaged Jim in any way, but by triggering the lawsuit, Jim can argue on the basis the lawsuit itself was potentially damaging. By my understanding anyways.

Welp, after the paypal thing went about as wrong as nobody but themselves saw, they've launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund their hilariously frivolous lawsuit:

It's going about as well as expected.

Jim has commented now about the lawsuit via Twitter, one Jimpressions (ShadowPeak) and his latest Jimquisition (Zero Difficulty) and is taking it about a seriously as the rest of us. Meanwhile Digital Homicide tried to sound sinister by implying The Jimquitisition Website is somehow Jim's "weak link" and is likely to be the target of their lawsuit. Largely because they don't have any argument via the DMCA route.

EDIT: I'm also going to take a WILD stab in the dark that the $200 they have so far raised? All them.

that is what you get when you try to sue 100 steam users for leaving comments that hurt your feelings
edit note to add if you want to read the lawsuit its pretty funny

You know, generally if you have to go begging for a lawyer instead of finding one ready to jump your money-dick, that means your case probably isn't that stellar. I'm assuming he got turned down by real lawyers when trying to talk to them.

Edit: Fuck did I write the same fucking thing in March a few comments ago? This is the same guy? Is he STILL lawyer begging a half year later? Jfc.

That and they can't afford a lawyer. The indiegogo is still running and currently sits on a whopping $475.
