This is what was on the court lister. Attaching pdf files is behaving strangely. Let me know if you see problems.

The judge granted Ya Boi’s leave to amend his complaint to include, or more clearly spell out Waid’s Texas specific defamation.

He also denied the defendant's motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction, but he did so without prejudice. If Waid comes up with better facts, he can argue it again.

I hope Rackets talks about this tonight. I need a Vic break.
Looks like at least another night of Weeb Wars:

It's satisfying to see Waid get BTFO'd by the judge, while Meyer is able to amend his complaint.

I don't blame Nick for cashing in on the Vic stuff, I mean, he is getting 8k-12k viewship. It's clearly what people want, but yeah. I miss hearing about other things. There are a few cases that he started covering and never updates. From now on if he mentions Meyer, I'll try to come here and timestamp it.

Until the WaidZaid Fag Brigade starts having real happenings again, MoRonica is the biggest 'culture war' thing currently happening on the internets law sphere so I can't really blame him for covering that so much.

Nothing to really cover from the above. It is all boiler plate BS, and adding in a smidge more detail to a filing. 5 minutes absolute tops, 2 more likely, to cover it. I am sure Nick will look at it more on stream once something with more meat appears, but it looks like (for now) the Weid lawsuit has ceased its exceptionalism where as the Mignona one somehow finds new levels of exceptionalism daily.

It's also currently about jurisdictional issues, and while law nerds may find that entertaining, most people just find it mind-bendingly boring. It actually shows competence on the part of Waid's attorneys that they directed the case in this incredibly boring direction that not only delays the case, but does it in a really uninteresting way to anyone but jurisdiction nerds.

And notably, they've some how gotten Waid to shut the fuck up

I refuse to give credit to Zaid, since he himself cannot shut the fuck up, but his local counsel must be competent.

Zaid is a carny huckster looking to raise his own profile. It's possible one of the local, and competent, counselors finally managed to impress upon Waid that, yes, this bronchitic veteran actually has a solid case, and yes, you really might lose your shirt, so shut the fuck up before you make things even worse.

Honestly it might be more interesting than watching Nick go through that horrific MoRonica filing line by line with a highlighter saying Hearsay!

I would like to imagine one of the Texas attorneys sat Waid down and showed him the video of Waid opening his big dumb mouth and told him, "I hope you like spending time in Texas" and then reamed him out even more for opening his big dumb mouth to protest their advice to avoid opening his big dumb mouth.

the vic lawsuit just keeps moving forward at rapid speed and delivers tons of content. there's over 6 hours of deposition videos alone, all released in the last few weeks, and the next happening (tcpa hearings) are already scheduled for early august.

meyer v wade on the other hand has been a complete snoozefest. for months and months, nothing of substance actually happens, all we get is lawyers arguing legal technicalities related to jurisdictional questions.
It's lost a lot of traction. Both clients have more or less shut up about the lawsuit, law twitter doesn't get involved/has kept quiet and comparatively the case as a whole is "smaller" in scale. The case itself is a comparatively private/small matter when compared to the Mignogna case. It's one mainstream industry manbaby calling up a company and convincing them to breach their contract with someone who is a relatively unknown individual, and who is not a member of the mainstream comic industry. It's technical and fairly isolated. The Vic case is more or less the complete implosion of the anime dubbing industry, with everyone and their mother acting autistic online in some way, with the case being very PR related.

Also, I believe (and could be wrong) that the American comicbook reading fanbase is far, far smaller than the anime and manga fanbase. I think most people know Marvel and DC mainly from their live action films, maybe some of their animated films and series. People don't really read the comic books as much, not when compared to the widespread anime watchers and manga readers, so one will eclipse the other.

You would be correct in that. In addition, while Waid is definitely one of the better known writers in comics from the 90's and 2000's, he didn't really produce a lot of material that people outside of comics fandom would recognize. Like, most people wouldn't know Mark Millar or Warren Ellis by name or face, but they might know movies or games written by them or based on their work. Waid doesn't even really have that much.

They’re reportedly making a Kingdom Come movie which might boost his public recognition.

Or maybe I’m just being biased since it’s one of the few superhero stories I like.

But I agree with you and Slimy Time about comic books being way more niche than anime, especially when it comes to Dragonball Z which is one of the popular anime shows of all time.

A lot of his characters and plotlines showed up in the WB TV shows. Especially Flash. But nothing that anybody is going to hunt down to discover who's getting 35 cents worth of creator credit.
