The dev behind Super Mario Bros. Remastered finally caved and added a Classic Physics option. You can practically hear the seethe in the reveal trailer like “I didn’t WANT to add this but people wouldn’t stop complaining “.

Wait hold on, actually making the game work in the correct, original way is a special feature he's patching in and not the default? lmao that's totally gay

His original reasoning was “I don’t like the original physics and programming is hard you guys, so deal with it”. Very gay indeed.

Nintendo should sue him for devaluing their brand by being too casual.

Unfortunately, Star Fox Arcade was quietly cancelled and the O.R.B.S. cabinet itself would never actually be used for any arcade game. The GameCube version did eventually see the light of day, however. Released as Star Fox Assault in 2005, the game was heavily reworked and padded out with third person on foot sections.
Sounds like we got thiiiis close to getting a decent Star Fox game in this millennium

Any advice for casual storage of consoles and periphials? I'm doing a clear out and finding my only controllers. They are in bags, on shelves, in tubs, and in drawers. I considered putting them all in plastic tubs, maybe with a little bubble wrap, but not sure if that's good for the health of the controllers.
Remember that these devices have seen abuse tantamount to warcrimes from children and teens (or their angry parents) and chug on. In modern times, OEM SNES and NES and N64 and PS1/Xs have been sitting in literal bins in gamestop/dkoldies/whatever flavor of the month retro seller's warehouses for weeks/months/years with no care given to them, and even if they're fucking gross, will still just boot right the fuck up a SIGNIFICANT percentage of the time they're purchased. It's hard to fuck up. Before the retro boom, people were selling their old consoles that were in moldy fucking basements for 5, 10, 20 years and they would still be okay. Don't overthink it.

That said, you pretty much already are on the right track. Clean your consoles before storage (as clean as we all like to think we are, sometimes nasty critters can get inside of consoles due to dust and they will hatch in there unless your totes are airtight), clean your controllers, don't wrap the cords around the controller itself, just do circular wraps and velcro ties/bread ties/whatever you got laying around. Just try not to leave it taut or it can put strain on the cord which on older controllers will cause the rubber coating to crack sooner, and also leaves you susceptible to Cable Burn, wherein the chemicals that are meant to keep the cable loose and flexible offgasses/separates/leeches out and can leave an impression of the cable by reacting with the hard plastic, also leaves your cables stiff. If you've ever found an older power cable laying around and it was really rigid, it was probably that. It's a notable issue with the atari and famicom, a little less with later devices but very much can still happen and be exacerbated.
Costco sells some great black totes (ace hardware link because the costco website only shows the 12gallon variety) that I'll vouch for. I separate by generation, lay console at the bottom, layer carts/jewel cases on the sides and top and have never had an issue.
If you have devices hooked up wherever you are, and want controllers handy, door-hung shoe organizer is what I use for storing my controllers in my workshop. Works fine for everything but the hellspawn n64 controller.

Why what's wrong with it?

Out of curiosity what's the game you all really want to get decompiled?
Smash 64 and Melee for insane PC modding potential. Mario Party 1-3 for someone to combine into a single game. Paper Mario for a smooth 60 FPS.

Some of those have already been fully decompiled but haven’t gotten anything substantial beyond slightly-more-advanced-than-usual mods.

>Actually good 32 bit graphics in spite of it's red and black color scheme
>Decent soundchip for a handled, with stereo audio
>90% of it's games are genuinely good, it's library is only seen as a disappointment due to the lack of use of the console's main gimmick
>All of it in a "portable" console in the 90's

How much would have changed if Nintendo ditched the VR gimmick and went straight for a 32 bit focused handled?

I think anything from the GameCube and PS2 era could be really cool since a lot of the games that did receive PC ports around that time were subpar at best compared to the console version. The first Jak and Daxter game got decompiled a while back, with Jak 2 currently playable as well, and they both feel and look pretty great.

Personally I would love to see Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes decompiled and have someone go in and tweak the game so it plays more like the original without being easier while still using the same combat and controls as MGS 2 and 3.

This point gave me a thought. I had NES games when I was a kid, but it was already old by that point (early-mid 90s). I first emulated NES games when I was in my early teens. I wonder if the reason I never had this desire to play with an original controller is because I was still in my formative years when I started getting into emulation? I've probably played Mario 3 on a keyboard or other controller far, far more than an actual NES one.
I grew up with the SNES and MegaDrive and not once have I ever wanted to go back to those shitty controllers, they were blocky because they were generally designed to be kid proof and capable of being thrown around in a rage. Playing old games with a modern controller is just BETTER and that's one of the key reasons why I'll always prefer emulation to running games on original consoles. That and save states which ensure I never have to go through the post -> developer credits -> sluggish START menu -> LOADING -> back at the fucking game.

Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction: A super niche game that I must have sunk hundreds of hours into. Build a robot, compete in more and more frantic arenas and slaughter the fuckers. One of the worst physics systems I have ever seen in a video game but that just adds to the charm and caused all sorts of shit back when I played local multiplayer and a lucky bounce saw my mate get instantly destroyed.

Timesplitters is another, but Rewind basically scratches the itch.
