I don't know why so many things were changed. You could argue that stuff like "Frog Sage" was closer to the original script but Treehouse doesn't give a shit about original scripts, and there are Woolseyisms like "you spoony bard" that people love.

Mack getting renamed makes sense as the Bobby Darin estate is notoriously litigious (which is why Mac Tonight went away the first time), but is Bruce Lee the same way, or did they just assume zoomers are too dumb to know who Bruce Lee was?
I can live with those kinds of changes, it's the woke censorship that pisses me off. As for Bruce Lee specifically, I think his daughter is sort of litigious.

This raises a lot of questions. I think the line was changed in the remake.
Was it? I wonder if the change was at least to be more accurate to the Japanese, which probably didn't say that.

Shannon Lee (Bruce's daughter) runs the estate and she's sued many people for "unauthorized" use of Bruce's name/likeness.

GOG re-released Dino Crisis and its sequel recently (turns out those games had obscure PC ports). (/v/ thread from earlier today, archive.is version as arch.b4k.co is down).

They also have some sort of "dreamlist" which is essentially a fancier version of the old "wishlist" thread forum they had with ranked choices, though stuff that was never released on PC to begin with like Resident Evil Code Veronica X dominates. Some people take this to mean a PC port is in the works, some people think that this is entirely wishful thinking (no way would CD Projekt do the heavy lifting on a full port--unless it was something shitty like a packaged emulator).

>No One Lives Forever
You can get that for free... right NOW

It's like people can't be fucked to do basic fucking research and just rely on other bigger companies to do the shit for them. Don't give these companies money if you don't have to.

Has GOG ever released original patches, like, at all? Most of it seems to be fan patches that have floated around (can't speak for Dino Crisis), many of the games still don't function correctly (still looking for a solution to avoid Star Wars Episode I's stretching issue), and some they release the worst version of even if there was a Windows 32-bit release (SimCity 2000, Phantasmagoria).

It was one reason why I quit going to GOG, they make money off of others' hard work and do not work as advertised.

SimCity 2000 for Windows 95 has an issue where the fastest speed, African Swallow, runs at variable speed depending on your CPU speed.

On a Pentium 1 vs a Pentium 3 thats a bit of an issue. But on a 5ghz Core i9 it runs so fast that 100 years progress in seconds.

So I understand why they didn't use that version.

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction still only has barely over 200 votes. FTGE.

I have a version of 2000SE (with SCURK) I got on an old (now sadly gone) fansite that was modified to be playable on Win7/8/10/11. African Swallow is still too fast, but I still play it from time to time.

AFAIK it doesnt even need to be modified, just the installer is a bit odd to get working direct from an original CD. Most straight Win32 applications run really well on modern computers even ARM Windows running on a Macbook.

I know it works without it, but it always had a few issues, for me, especially with the "floating ribbon" buttons. The fansite guy said he did some hex editing of the executables, and you have to customize the provided .reg file for the folder locations. I don't remember the details, sadly. I downloaded it years ago. But it doesn't have the issues I had with my CD version.

I'd attach and share it, but I'm not quite sure that's permitted. Its only about 7mb in a rar file, because it drops the "Goodies" videos. I have the CD, if I want to watch that Will Wright interview for the 87th time, I know where to find it.

CRTs are the real deal, for when I'm playing alone at least, they just feel 1000x better.
I don't know about them being 1000x better or not, but CRT shaders/filters never feel right.

Funny how Crapcom/GoG did this (+RE 1,2,3) after Classic Rebirth got the whole pentalogy (and Soul Reaver and Blood Omen) done. Here's some compact comparison.

The SimCity 2000 v1.2 FAQ for Mac (equivalent to Windows 1.1) mentions African Swallow's speed is without limits and depends on processor speed, and is clearly supposed to be a joke. I didn't get it at the time because no Monty Python frame of reference (there are other in-jokes like references to Red Dwarf in the game).

The shaders are very, very good at capturing the look of a single frame displayed on a CRT. But it doesn't have the "feel" of the real deal.
None of the CRTs I've seen looked that bad/intense/whatever when hooked to any console or CD player. Only video tapes or cable tv looked like what these filters do.

Is there any way to fix underscan / zoom in on a GBS-C for PS2 or am I just going to have to deal with black bars on every side of my monitor?

Also Dark Cloud 1 is extremely cozy and if Dark Cloud 2 is the one that people love then I'm in for a good time.

Jazz Jackrabbit 1 has this issue from what I recall. The early 1.2 CD version seems to be the "best" version out there because it's the one with the least amount of bugs. The GOG version is 1.3 and it simultaneously fixes things while breaking other things.

So it's as if jazz Jackrabbit 1 is in a perpetual state of being forever unplayable to completion or something (outside of maybe the 1.0 floppy-disk version, but that doesn't have bonus levels from the CD/GOG versions)

What about OpenJazz?

I loved DC1 but DC2 didn't click with me. If you're expecting more of the same you'll be disappointed. Still, it's good for what it is. I disliked it way back, but in retrospect I was way too harsh on it.
