Something feels super off with re2 remake. For the spooky month I've been going through the RE games I never played, I kept up with the series until 6 and stopped after that QTE fest. Having grown up with the og games, and now having gone back to re-play the older games I can confirm I don't really like the modern remakes. REmake is still amazing, but re2make does this weird thing with the zombies were they can insta turn 360 and lock you into a grab animation. It's really frustrating, especially coming from re0 and REmake, but I struggle to juke the zombies like I was able to in those earlier games (yes I was using classic controls). It makes the whole experience of running the gauntlet frustrating because I can't avoid damage like I used to with the tank controls because they just lock on, halo 2 sword lunge at me, and I get stuck in a damage animation. If I could remove or alter that weird lunge they do it would be a fun experience, but at this point I'm mostly just slogging through to get the experience over with.
because the game isn't designed for you to juke them, if you want past a zombie, you must.

1) Kill the Zombie
2) flinch the Zombie
3)trigger a Zombie attack and completely avoid it
4)waste a grapple item on the Zombie.

this is the balance of the game, due to being able to shoot and movie and generally more able to get around, the game is built to make it as hard as possible to run past them.

I'll just stay hating the game then. An RE game were I cannot run past a zombie in a hallway without it being able to 360 and grab me is bad and I don't care what anyone says otherwise. I don't really understand how people enjoy this when you cannot run past them, why increase my movement and aiming ability if they then balance the game around having that meaning absolutely nothing? It would have been better to just do a graphical update like REmake.

its the most serious, scariest, and most body horror of the entire franchise, pretty much at least, at least in terms of execution at the time.

The Franchise can never quite return to what RE2 was, the protags are too overpowered and capable, the Outbreaks are never quite as dire or somber.. RE2 felt like the start of a fucking Apocalypse, G-VIrus is pure total nightmare fuel, honestly the only game that comes close to the same atmosphere, gravitas and such is the first half of Code Veronica, RE3 felt like an extension of 2, in a much more action packed, less horror way.

There really is something to be said about how rote and routine the Outbreaks have become, and the world seemingly just abides them.
I was actually just thinking about this yesterday. The newer games can't quite capture the overwhelming feeling of dread from the early days of the virus outbreak. Everywhere is swarmed by zombies, you have limited resources, people you thought could protect you are dead and you have those nasty mutants stalking you and trying to fuck your shit up. Things actually feel scary.
Nowadays you can track down and annihilate a whole village full of werewolves and it feels like business as usual.

RE2 98 is the best execution of a two scenario game that I can think of. Definitely of the genre at least. You can find videos of A and B scenarios running side by side and it fits so well.

I really have come to hate the remake. Fun to play and it's good in it's own right. But compared to the source material and it's fucking lazy. Remove the coolest mechanic the series ever had with zapping and two independent scenarios. You know, the whole reason for years RE2 was the fan fav next to RE4.
Are Claire A and Leon A different in the og RE2? I never even bothered to look that up. I assumed it would be the same story like in RE2make.

That has to be reserved for REmake. I was just playing it a few mins ago, and the zombies are stellar with how gory and rotted they are. Their sound design is out of this world. Not like the corny sounding shit in 2R. They're both the toughest and scariest zombies in the series.
REmake zombies are absolutely on steroids and I don't know how people can do the invisible enemy mode.

Also, speaking of grab animations, Dino Crisis had me seething because of how long those are.

You absolutely can run past them, you just want it to be easy and don't want to learn. Also its 180*, not 360.

When I was a kid, Zombies terrified me. After watching my younger brother play RE4 a little I started to let my guard down and picked up a copy of REmake on gamecube. Cured my fear and let me enjoy one of the greatest games ever made.

Kind of, they both have a small area only they go to, and the secondary characters you control are different, obviously.

Yes and technically only Claire A/Leon B is canon in the OG. Because it's the only one where Leon gets the anti-virus for Sherry.

Now because of 9 Remake's Leon A/Claire B is canon too. You might think "how can that be" when in remake nothing actually changes in the story. But it's all the stuff Leon does only in the beginning of remake's A route that have now been made canon. Stuff like talking to Marvin.

I still cannot get over the fact that the new RE movie has our lead, the representation of the "modern average guy" , being

1- An awkward white gamer
2- Somehow has a girl that apparently puts up with his shit
3- Has a child on the way
4- Wants to have that child aborted

I can buy all the faux RE nonsense in this flick (like yeah, you totally played the games where you "level up" your guns, Zach) but I aint buying that.

And before someone says "its his character arc" or something, look, I dont care, ok? It shouldnt even be a character arc at all and this is suppose to take place in the present so you can clearly tell that this script was written a while back or at least Zach unironically thinks this is what the "average goy" is like.

Edit:
Neat video*

*that actually calls out Zach for being a lying piece of fuck and for poozers in our fanbases that try to argue adaptations "dont have" to be like the source material at all.
