Does anyone feel like people putting REmake 2 on the same pedestal that REmake 1 is...really wrong?
I dont know, I just cant help but feel like the original sequel still stand over the remake, unlike the first game's. Resident Evil 1 was highly improved upon to the point it is possible to just see it as the "canon" version but I cant see that with 2 and especially 3.
I wonder why...
Two possible reasons; REmake kept the core of what Resident Evil used to be. Tank controls, awkward camera angles, etc. RE2 Remake updated the game to the RE4 (third-person shoulder) style; while the game was fundamentally all there (including my boy Hunk), when you're making the game, you need to tailor things to how the player interacts with the game, and camera angles play a big role in that. So when they went from the OG style to the RE4 style, they lost something, whatever that may be.

Another issue could be that the gap in player generations and technology generation. You get older and feelings change, or something just doesn't impact you the way it would have when you were younger. So when you go from PS/SS Chris and Jill to GC Chris and Jill; you were younger, but that was a massive and amazing jump for its time (also like, 5~6 years IIRC, 1995-2001 or so). But by the time RE2 Remake comes around, graphics aren't anything new, the overall method of the game isn't new, and you're an old man who's already seen it all.

I think its much simpler: REmake is still fundamentally the same game as RE1, and I'm not talking about gameplay. They could have made the game a third person shooter like RE4, but kept everything else the same, and it would still feel superior to the other REmakes, because ultimately its the same game. They didn't didn't take anything away, they didn't change the story, they didn't redesign the characters and give them weird personality changes, they didn't completely rewrite the script. The new content was stuff they added to what was already there. REmake 2 removed content, changed things around, and rewrote the sequel, to the point it can't even really be called a remake because it makes things so different. REmake 3 is objectively worse in this regard, to the point where it might as well not have been a remake at all.

Hopium moment. Capcom was planning RE4 remake ever since RE2 remake because it was the game they really wanted to remake. They put as much effort into the games as the originals sold. I hope I have enough hopium to stay optimistic.

If anything RE2 and 3 remakes are a reimagining of the games more then they are remakes. It's why I hate calling those two remakes. Because of how vastly different and changed they are leading to the experience being majorly affected.

It's as you said. Remake 1 is basically still Re1 at it's core, with the new stuff enhancing what was already there. While the 2 REimaged games are just so vastly different calling them remakes is a disservice to how good the first remake was.

Seeing how Re4 already had the over shoulder angle and the style, will the remake feel more like how Re1 did it, or will we get another Reimaged game.

Becoming a fan of resident evil in early 00s and 90s is painful because you will never be catered to anymore. But i'm very grateful for Remasters.

This. I have to say I have absolutely no interest in anything outside of the original cast. I don't care about the coomer vampire woman or the other shit. I wish Operation Raccoon City wasn't such a piece of shit.

We were catered to in the first place? Because most Resident Evil releases have tended to be almost experimental titles, to toy with ideas and concepts regardless of quality of the product.

I'll still argue that ORC is not as absolutely terrible as a lot of people try to paint it as. Like, it's no diamond in the rough by any stretch of the imagination, but it does just enough neat things to be on a similar level of "YMMV" as any of the other non-mainline games in the series that people enjoy.

I mean, for me, it was just really boring when I played it. Then again, I played it alone, instead of the intended co-op. But it wasn't unplayable for me the same way that RE6 was.

It helps that they maintained the original design. If it was butchered into an FPS like it would be today then I don't think it'd be as well recieved.

Something that really helped was that a lot of people were still familiar with the first game and remembered things from it. Like the dog jumping through the window. In the remake the player approached that carefully because of the familiarity. It was possible for them to toy with the player and that added another dimension to it. It's the same game but it is different.
Could they have done the same with RE2 considering the 20 years between the original and the remake? idk, if they did anything like that I didn't notice it during the couple of hours I played it.

I personally feel like it's wrong to say Resident Evil 2 remake is on the same level or better than the first.

But I'm a relative old fag when it comes to gaming, and tastes have changed so I understand *why* people think that. I mean, it's a really good game but they changed too much for me personally.

I've always felt that REmake1 and 2 were just a bit too different to compare with each other, so comparing the two just never made sense to me.

I've played the Switch ports of RE5 & RE6 lately. I had a prior experience of RE5 on PC by playing the full game in oneshot with a friend but I've never touched RE6 before. The fact both Switch versions have gyro make things easier to aim during erratic situations, and RE6 had a few moments where the framerate noticeably dropped but nothing that was a deal-breaker for me (the abundance of QTEs was more annoying imo). I dunno why gyro is entirely absent in the Switch port of RE4 though, so I guess I will have to do it the old retro way.

Being exposed to Chrisposting beforehand made some scenes in RE6 funnier to me.

Honestly, I recall RE 4 on Switch running fine but 5 and 6 running like shit. I could understand maybe no 60 frames (tho I dare say it was possible) but they couldnt even have a comfortable 30!? Even the PS3 and Xbox 360 kept it at 30 frames. I dont know, it was a deal breaker for me, since I know the Switch can run PS3 era games comfortably so this was just a shitty job from Capcom.

I just finished the fan upscaled sourcenext version of RE3 Nemesis. They really did great work on that and RE2. Although, whatever AI learning machine they use to clean the prerendered backgrounds does too good a job in some places to the point some objects turn into these pastel blobs.

I recommend anyone that plays the classic still to play them as I cannot play any other version of them now.

RE1 is still in development, but you can play RE2-3 right now.

I believe the reason was they originally used the Gamecube ports to remaster as it was simpler. RE1 has been in development for awhile but I forget the reason it's taking so long. They do post progress on their discord.

There is other HD remasters of RE1 out there you can download that look good enough.

I believe the guy that began the project abandoned it. Also, apparently the steam version of RE1 remake has broken audio and pixelated assets.

Yea REmake has a lot of problems but you can download mods to fix it. They even color corrected Jill so she’s the blue from the beta version.
