Capcom announced a Resident Evil showcase for October during Tokyo Game Show and we've still yet to get a definitive date for it.
In the meantime they've been regularly making updates to a dev branch of RE5 on Steam. Last update was a week ago.

Wesker wasn't that smart. World domination this, Evolve humans that blah blah blah.

Fucker just had to make the zombies do what that picture shows, make some heckin good fart tunes, and he could have gotten away not only with his stupid plan, but no one would be none the wiser.

If crazy roid abuser chris tells you the guy behind the worlds best fart music was really some evil villain planning to kill 99% of people, and evolve everyone else. And all he can come up with as proof is just his fart music. Would you believe him?
 
So has anyone else heard these rumors about Wesker having a more prominent role in RE4make?

Isn't that going to be fucking weird since this will, for all intents and purposes, be the revelation he is alive in the Remake universe and he has never had any interactions with Leon?

Kinda, it'll depend on whether or not he interacts with Leon. If all they do is add a few more cutscenes with Ada talking to him then I guess it wouldn't affect things too much, but if he's walking around the village or castle then I'd say it's not weird, it's stupid.

Capcom knows that they need an iconic villain and Wesker is their best bet considering he has connections to so many main RE characters, and the few he doesn't they can retcon to where he does.

The real dumb thing about Wesker's plan was using STARS. He should have used the UBCS or another mercenary force. No one looks into the missing mercs, he gets his combat data and remains covered.

In defense of his dumb plan, the reason for sending in STARS was due to all the mysterious deaths going on in the mountains. He gets combat data, the STARS teams are killed to leave no witnesses, the mansion blows up, and Wesker can disappear. So I don't think it was all that dumb, just he didn't count on Chris, Jill, Barry, and Rebecca not only surviving but exposing him and fucking over his plan.

Every plan after that though, like his complete global penetration saturation plan is pants on head dumb and showed that Capcom had no fucking clue what to do.

Any modern day Outbreak would just be a Left4Dead Clone...which would actually be a completely logical idea (setting a Left4Dead clone in the Resident Evil universe, that is), and which is why Capcom won't do it.

Honestly, Wesker in general is a character that overstays his welcome and just gets stupider the longer he stays alive, which is why Capcom killed him in RE5: they had nowhere else to go with his character.

Funny how the best REs, 4 and 7 never had any Umbrella/Wesker intervention. Its like Umbrella/Wesker are just used as crutches for villains in the story, kinda like how InGen in Jurassic Park is used as a crutch for the Jurassic World trilogy.

The RE4make will be a downgrade to the original RE4, mark my words.

But... 4 DOES have Wesker intervention. The whole entire reason why Ada and Krauser are present at all is due to Wesker's intervention, since he wanted a sample of Las Plagas.
