not just in public
from my experience it's very common for guys to be all "yeah i don't mind lgbt, they can do whatever, i don't care" in public too, but in a more trusted setting it's not uncommon for them to switch to "fuck fags fuck trannies that shit's disgusting" in private
with women that's almost unheard of, i've only seen it a single time when a woman got mad at the tranny boxer who punched out women at the olympics (and she wasn't a local but a russian immigrant)

The fact that we can openly point out gays without berating them is a social contagent in of itself. Some women just fall for it more easily, especially when it yields approval from others, or from gays, who are prone to crybullying you if you don't acknowledge them enough.
