There was a very noticeable shift after the introduction of PG-13 where everything below it became the dumping ground for children's movies. The original True Grit was G rated in its day. At this point the G rating doesn't mean "general audiences," it means "a light show to plop in front of your toddler."
Yeah it's really stupid and that's the reason why I made the note that the MPAA itself seems to be the problem more so than the actual rating system in my opinion. Doubly so since the MPAA is a private trade organization that works in cahoots with the studios and having a movie rated by them is (in theory more than practice) a voluntary process.

I think that with a better rating organization and a less opaque grading rubric the current five rating system would work fine.

If you judge people based on how faggy the mods are here then that's your problem. There are plenty of people the mods protect who deserve a pink triangle and don't get it.
Not in disagreement regarding that. However, this is also the designated sperg site where people have found addresses based on the reflection of a doorknob in the background of a hotel room. Or taken several minutes out of their day to verify a cow's height using trigonometry based on pixel measurements of regulation traffic cones. Checking post history to see if someone's talking out both sides of their mouth or just trying to stir shit is a basic enough move that Redditors can figure it out, never mind the site where archival and info preservation of internet drama are part of the selling point.

Fuck it I'll put it here, might be the wrong place so someone CAN signpost me but I figured I'd write it here since it OCCURED on Reddit.

So, I'm on the Fear and Hunger Subreddit and watching a troon crashout over people drawing Marina in a "Masculine way", despite the game saying Marina is a guy, this has them pointing people out (Which gets the post yeeted by a moderator). Reading the comments I spot a term I had to google, this being "TME" when someone tells them they find the artwork fine as someone who's also a trans person.

I find out TME means "Transmisogyny Exempt" and literally this is the troon niggers now dictating that even if you're trans you don't get to speak about certain issues unless you actively go through what they see as "Transmisogyny" which is the most pathetic, crazy, terminally online thing I've seen for some time.

Funnily enough I point out how ridiculous this all is and I'm met by the trans nigger posting a reaction of a JuJitsu Kaisen panel of a character being punched down a flight of stairs.

THEY'RE the victim of violence guys, they would never put out violent thoughts ever....

I know how spergy the site is. I think there is something especially bad about trying to get copies of death certificates of lolcows. When you're being that weird about strangers on the internet there is something going on behind the scenes. It might have been the cobra thread, which has one of the most parasocial and protected groups on the site. If I remember his father was still trying to get his things in order, had made a public statement on the cause of death and there was suspicion he may have been murdered by his ex girlfriend but there was no evidence of it.

The problem is that if it's out in the open, people try to game it. And im sure a lot of rubrics are a bad look. Like "calling a guy a cracker -> T, calling a guy a nigger -> M". The south park movie had a fuck counter that would go up every time a character would say fuck. They would submit the movie for review multiple times with slight changes until they found out a certain number of fucks would get you an M rating.

They already do, and Trey Parker and Matt Stone are actually pretty famous for it particularly with the South Park movie and Team America World Police.

Sure but as the system works now you submit your film (which costs money to do) and then they give you a rating and they refuse to tell you what got you that rating nor give advice on how to lower it. There has to be a middle ground of some kind. But all of this is largely moot because the MPAA more or less exists to fill the gap left by the abandonment of the Hays Code and keep Congress off the movie industry's backs so that they don't end up like the music industry did with Explicit content labels.

Horror movies have always gamed the system. They sent really hard cuts expecting to lose 3-5 seconds of footage they put in specifically to be cut. It's like bartering. I ask if you will take off 20% knowing we'll meet at 15%.

They do tell studios what is getting them the rating and recommending cuts. But it's not always consistent because multiple groups rate the films. So if you get the old karens group for your horror film you're getting fucked. They also hold grudges on some franchises like Friday 13th kept getting cuts while much worse films didn't.

It's inconsistent and a mess. But the internet lets you bypass it all if you want to.

Was unaware of that I was under the impression that it was just "Here's your rating, if you don't like it eat shit."

Another great point against the MPAA.

It may have changed now but they used to get told specifically how much needed trimming in some shots. It'll be like "At 30:23 you can see too much blood". But there's ways to game that. Evil Dead remake infamously used red rain to mask all the blood. So it's literally raining blood, people are being cut up with blood spraying every where. But it's also red rain so.. too much blood? Well no, that's rain. Older studios would try to wiggle the instructions or get vague enough ones you didn't know how much needed cutting and resubmitted hoping to get more than you would.

I find it fascinating that grown men buy sports, pokemon, whatever cards and some of them make it their full time jobs to buy and resell packs and whatever.
This guy bought a single pack of sports cards each day hoping to get an autographed card. Took him 97 days, at least he's donating part of the $800 he spent to charity.

This bonkers dude sold his car to buy a single pokemon card. $34k for a piece of cardboard

Virtue signaling at its finest. The white guilt predditors are jumping all over themselves to tell this person that their choice to hang a civil rights era photo with the caption "Breaking News: Black Woman Minding her Business; White Folks Mad" is a fantastic thing to put on the wall above your sofa and if people don't like it they are racist. I recommend reading the full text in the post it's a banger.

Background: Recently I’ve been trying to design the empty space above my couch because it’s just a blank wall so I decided to go with a gallery wall. For my large center piece I chose a picture of Elizabeth Eckford during the Arkansas desegregation of Central High. I was otp with my friend showing her what I planned to do. She said it was a nice photo but that she wouldn’t hang it up because it bore no significance to her (understandable). I then told her that at the bottom of the photo I was going to put “Breaking News : Black Woman Minding Her Business ; White Folks Mad.” And the friend said that was racist. I asked how and she said if the races were flipped then it would be a problem. I was honestly taken aback and slightly offended because this was a real event in history and the title I put is what actually is going on. She said it would be fine if I stated what was going (First Woman to desegregate Central High) but that me putting a “sassy” title was racist. I just want to know what you guys think. Is this racist? Was my friend’s comment inappropriate? She is of Hispanic descent btw.

UPDATE: I want to preface this by saying I had no intention of responding to any comments, I genuinely just wanted to see others opinion on this “debate”. I honestly was not expecting this to blow up like this but since it has I thought to respond to a trend I noticed in the comments
Firstly, I am black. I don’t know why some thought I was white? I guess I should have clarified.
I see one of the many major points you guys are making is why put something this emotionally provoking in my living room. And the answer is just that. Because it is emotionally provoking. Art is subjective but not history. I ask you what does this piece represent to you when you see it? Whether you are white or black ask yourself this. If it represents something negative to you then I am sorry you feel that way but that is the opposite for me. THIS WOMAN IS STILL ALIVE TODAY. As of this post she is 84 years old. I still have living relatives that are close to that age myself. What she had the power to do at such a young age and fragile mind impacted SO many black and brown people across America in a positive way. It is because of her and people like her that I am able to participate in the American Institution at its fullest today. THAT is why I am hanging this up. Because it represents the ability to overcome, bravery, walking in AND through the face of hatred, and mental fortitude all at such a young age. I am going to school for Engineering this August and I know the workload will be tough but when I walk through the door and I see Mrs.Eckford walking to school so I MYSELF can do the same, that will give me strength to keep going and to keep pushing because if she could do that as a teenager then I can and should continue my education to honor what people before me have done so I can be where I am today.
Lastly, to the white people. I get some of you might be offended by this or you may feel that I am personally attacking you by admonishing this headline (most of you weren’t and I appreciate that) but this is in no way meant to be an anti white statement. I acknowledge as a black person that many white Americans marched with us in the streets and put themselves in the line of fire to be labeled as outcast for simply speaking up in aid of black rights. Knowing that their neighbor, manager, co-workers, friends or family would attack them with words and/or actions. However if this offended you as a white person…really?
This is not meant to divide but acknowledge a piece of history and I chose to put it up because it INSPIRES me. Black people continue to mind their business today and still get killed if it weren’t for simply just being black. Let’s not forget that Trayvon Martin and Ahmaud Aubrey were not that long ago. This still happens today. Maybe not on as large a scale like the past but there are still trickle down effects.
I appreciate everyone’s insight on this. Please this was not meant to pit white vs black AGAIN. That was the past, this is the present. We all have reached a point where we can co-habitat and live peacefully TOGETHER through efforts on both sides.
Again, I appreciate EVERYONE’S insight

Reddit never ceases to come up with new, 100% mongoloided neologisms. I only skimmed this and perked up at "whole families getting put in gas chambers", only to realize a moment later that this dumb fuck is talking about live stock. I can only ask again, how do these people even function in society being this fucking fragile? I know the popular answer is "They don't function" but my point still stands. Somewhat.

you know who else saw (certain) humans and livestock as the same?

The card grifting is insane. This guy didn't really spend that much money all things considering. Card makers will release single cards worth more than this in 1 in 50 boxes. And people will buy boxes ($100 each) to open one for themselves. The pokemon stuff is all scalping and grifting so it's even dumber. TCG players are autistic, but the scalpers make them look like goldfish compared to their whaling.

That picture thing never happened. Total bullshit.

When they first made the change that you could hide your post history, some redditors were so mad about not being able to use your old comments against you in arguments that they used to reply with "XYZ hides his post history" as if that was some kind of instant "fuck you"

Gradually those people seem to have disappeared because it turns out no one likes having their accounts stalked.

Similar cheat was used in Kill Bill Part 1 when Tarantino shot the fight against the Crazy 88, by shooting it in black and white to hide the red blood he got an R rating instead of an NC-17.
