Myself, I've read a lot of people comparing it to the Ohioan flag, so this isn't surprising to me. On a related note, it's fairly uncontroversial, in my experience, to state that many flags in real life would be mocked if they originated from a work of fiction.

Going through the thread, there is a lot of discussion on how this specific flag is stuck in the superposition of both being too specific and too vague. Once you represent specific flags, you raise the question "why aren't other specific flags being included?". And the base rainbow flag is insufficient, because trans and black people do not receive assurance that a place with the flag flying will shelter them (because lesbian and gay people can express disgust and hatred towards them, the way straight and white people do).

The way I understand the flag and its predecessors (and its successors, when they arrive), shelter is their primary purpose, rather than aesthetics, or to represent an ideology, belief or people. Perhaps it is inevitable that it is unkempt.

Truly some of the most insecure people on earth.
Could it really be that? The words I speak in real life is very different from the words I type online, and it changes even further depending on who I am conversing with. I don't use video game analogies around my older family members, for example. And when I do, it's not because I believe myself to be on a pedestal for playing them, but because they are something I and others in my cohort can immediately understand. Words in other languages, especially, have an entirely different context to them that can be immensely difficult to convey when translated.

To use a simplified example relevant to the conversation, "God" is translated to "kami" in Japanese, meaning "spirit", which is technically accurate. But because "spirits" in Shintoism and Christianity have different cultural connotations, Japanese people generally treat God as "just another powerful spirit in nature" rather than as "an almighty, awe-inspiring, all-powerful being". That is part of why it is common for JRPGs to have God as the final boss.

They make up flags for the aroma of being in a basement, or opening a can of monster energy drink or 9,000 other smells, and declare that is their gender. This radicalized me.
You might think this is stupid, but it's actually evil.

The argument is that gender isn't real, and its criteria are arbitrary; that gender was invented (socially constructed) for no reason other than to privilege one group (that decided that it was "male") over another group (that the first group decided was "female"). Genitals, chromosomes, hormones, skeletal structure, whatever, are things that the first group decided were significant - they are not significant in and of themselves, only social power gives them significance. Through this, those with power may have decided that ovaries are intrinsic to femaleness, but there's no reason femaleness can't be defined as getting an erection when you spin around in a dress.

When you accept this, that gender is not related to reality but rather merely a signifier and a (made up) criteria, then anything can be a gender. You can be Irish Spring-gender and it's just as coherent as Dylan Mulvaney being a woman or Arnold Schwarzenegger being a man. All of those things are equally valid.

This is a deconstruction of the concept of gender. It's like saying 1+1=2. The postmodernist then deconstructs this by saying you can add a stallion and a mare and get three horses (1+1=3). In binary, 1+1=10. Amongst many African tribes who don't even have numerals, 1+1= "many." One plus one equaling two depends entirely on context and definitions and social power (why are numerals even valuable, intrinsically? Because dead White men said so? The African's "one" and "many" framework is just as valid), so one plus one can equal anything.

This isn't silly children. This is people internalizing the teachings of serious academics that dominate large swaths of the American education system, and taking them not even to their logical conclusion, but the logical immediate extension.

Gender isn't real but misgendering someone is the gravest offense punishable only by death. :geek:👆

They ban you for saying that you agree with *some things relating to this person/event/whatever* but then actively have rape porn and loli subreddits. Okay Kyle. God forbid you say a minor-felt opinion on any of the faggot show subs. (The Transformers one will have half their base 41% within the next 5 years)
