The actual long-term negative effect of slavery/colonialism on black people is that it gave them a ready-made excuse for why nothing is ever their own fault.
On the bright side, that playbook has an expiration date. The holocaust victim card Israel uses doesn’t really work on anyone under 50 anymore, for example. As the fatigue rises, “muh slavery n shit” will lose its potency as well.

Why do you think they're coming up with the "systematic" or "internalized" racism/sexism/antisemitism. Slavery is gone, women got countless extra rights, jew cock is thoroughly sucked, the jig is up. So now they invented the idea that it is woven into the fabric of reality and we are in an eternal war against it and it can never be solved, only be fought with infinite gibs.

Israel falling out of favor is just anti-racism programming clashing with proisrael programming.

It also doesn't work in places that have a high immigrant population. I can only imagine African and South Asian kids are even more mentally checked out in Holocaust Class than the white kids are. The number of Holocaust memorials probably ranks alongside the number of rainbow flags as the most handy way to tell how white the area you're in is.

it's been 20 years since I last endured Hollyoaks (not by intent, but because I couldn't be arsed to turn the TV off after The Simpsons) - good to see it's still as shit as ever
even after all this time, the theme music from the time still gives me a Pavlovian reaction to get up and turn off the TV
So is Hollyoaks like a British The Bold and The Beautiful?

So is Hollyoaks like a British The Bold and The Beautiful?
Mmm, not quite. So there used to be this British soap called Brookside, which came out in 1982 on Channel 4. It was pretty controversial for the time because it had stuff like the first lesbian kiss and openly gay male character on British TV, both back in the '90s. It wasn't just about faggotry, there were other topics as well like domestic violence and burying the dead husband under the patio (I think the Jordaches might have been the first depiction of a DV relationship on British TV). Even if you didn't watch it yourself, at least one of your female relatives did, or you'd see the storylines featured on the front of your TV guide.
Hollyoaks was also made by the same guy (Phil Redmond) towards the end of the 90s, it was meant to be aimed at younger people to tackle grittier issues for younger people. He'd also created Grange Hill prior to all of this, which was a kids' soap equivalent I guess about the eponymous high school. It ran for about 30 years on and off in the kids' TV slot on BBC 1. Hollyoaks was set more around university age people (mid teens-25) and the sort of middle ground between the two I guess? It ended up having late night specials that went into stuff they couldn't show before the watershed, and there was apparently a crossover episode with Brookside, even though the latter had actually finished.

I had female family members who would consume every single soap opera going on TV, and it's crazy how much you absorb via osmosis by just being in earshot. I've not seen much of The Bold and The Beautiful as you can tell by my detailed short account of '90s British TV soaps, but generally British soaps are less hammy and more dramatic based on the few episodes of Days of Our Lives and B&B I saw on Channel 5 back in the day. Brookside did have a more surreal and outrageous period in the mid '90s, but had become more grounded again towards the end of the decade. I think that was the closest it really came to anything truly wacky, and it was short-lived. As far as I know and remember, Hollyoaks was incredibly tame in comparison and pretty mundane. Was perfect background noise while I did my coursework though because it never grabbed my attention :story:

They're in debt for other reasons, want cities because they're retarded, you can't use a Switch on a bike, they support communism which is just as authoritarian as "fascism", they don't interact with others outside their braindead bubble, they're fat, the cafes aren't any better than McDonald's, don't spent their money on other things, view car ownership as a liability because they're fucking retarded, commutes conditionally faster but probably not really, and definitely in no way save money because they blow it all on stupidly expensive rent and doordash.

These "Chad bikebrains" are stupid as fuck yet believe they're superior because they're easily propagandized to support anything.

somehow, through a bunch of odd loopholes and manipulation, r/NuclearPower got taken away from it's owner by a bunch of anti-nuclear mods.

as the subreddit now bans people for "misinformation" just by talking about the benefits of nuclear power, the sub is now flooded with pro-solar/wind clickbait articles that is done by mostly one guy.

That's crazy, checking out his profile shows that he's a mod of other anti-nuclear power subs r/uninsurable and r/renewable. The other subs on the list have only one or two posts.

Edit: Another one of the mods is also anti-nuclear

These are the best of Redditors getting what they fucking deserve. Ranks right up there with the subreddit for a city or state banning people for disagreeing with the mod's politics, thus no longer making the sub an accurate representation of that city (especially funny when the mod isn't even from there).

It has recently come to my attention that redditors are eating fruits in the shower.
But... why though? Seems a good way to clog your drain and have to pay to fix it. I have never felt compelled to eat anything in the shower, let alone fruit. I genuinely don't understand this, or why people are taking pictures of it.

It has recently come to my attention that redditors are eating fruits in the shower. Have you seen this, have you heard about this?

I’ve eaten an orange in the shower when stoned before, it was bretty gud because you get enveloped in the citrus smell, and the cold juices from the recently refrigerated orange is an interesting sensation contrasted with the hot shower around you.

What I did NOT do, though, was leave the peels all strewn about the shower and then take a picture of it afterwards. Fucking gross. I threw that shit away and had no photographic evidence like a (relatively) normal human being.

Gross. Not sure why you wouldn't throw the peel in the garbage like a normal human being. Now you've got to pick up soggy orange.
There's also the shower beer subreddit.
I once tried to explain "shower beer" to my wife. She did not get it, at all. Rather than laughing at the weirdness she was genuinely deconstructing the absurdity. Having a glass of wine in the bath seems like the closest "normal" thing I could compare it to, but even then you don't really run the risk of filling it with water.

I don't really get these kinds of things myself. I'd rather relax afterwards or eat beforehand.
You can drive a car and not be in tremendous amounts of debt. It's a novel concept I know.

Mr Bikebrain repeats himself multiple times, not bucking the stereotypes. Perhaps it's all the times he's run red lights and face planted the concrete.

What is it with Redditors thinking that normal parent-child interactions cause trauma? I remember my own parents used to say this and it made me smile, it felt like a light-hearted way to point out I was bedrotting. Who's response to this is "You're minimizing my depression!"?

Again, this seems like a case where the "healthy alternative" the Redditors are imagining is way more invasive than what they're upset about. Okay, so your kid is spending all day in his room. Don't let him go in his room? Force him into therapy because if he likes spending his time there he apparently must be depressed? What the fuck are these people talking about?
