Going to have to disagree with RLM on this one. It really feels like they went into this one unprepared and it shows with things such as Jay getting the background for Sam Neill's character completely wrong and nitpicking things like the explosives having 'Explosive' written on them.

Don't get Jay's hate for Mortal Kombat. It's Anderson's best movie still, a fun schlocky fantasy martial arts movie and is far better than Even Horizon by virtue of being consistant in tone and having a great cast (Robin Shou and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa will forever be Lui Kang and Shang Tsung to me). Hell, the first film impacted the lore of the actual video games (Raiden was an asshole in the original game).

Just watched it a month or so ago when I saw the trailer for the newer film and found it still a fun romp, unlike most of the Resident Evil movies and Monster Hunter film that just makes me physically ill to watch.

Even Horizon frustrates me because it has cool ideas and really it just falls a part once kooky black guy flies back to Neptune.

Yeah, no one ever says or expects Mortal Kombat to be anything other than a fun, self-aware action flick. It's 90s as hell and if anything, I think that makes it more charming on current viewings. The only thing that's really aged poorly is the Reptile CGI and even my five year old self thought it didn't even look great back then.

You don’t REALLY like it, you’re just pretending to.

Jay said that re:View is typically a show where they watch movies that they like and recommend them to people, and Event Horizon was a deviation from the norm.

The next video in my Recommended list was their re:View of Star Trek Discovery Season 1.

As someone who genuinely has no connection to that franchise nor any of andersons other filmography that was such a weird thing for jay to keep pushing out of nowhere. At least mike kinda understood it when he brought up his enjoyment of rawhead rex.

did that jack drama destroy rlm forever and bring it crushing down or was it yet another retarded hot take that if you didn't have a twitter wouldn't matter at all
As for Josh, I just enjoy how he doesn't seem to get the joke on Half in the Bag and just argue his point, anyway. He definitely does his homework on Re:View, though, which I do appreciate. Despite him coming off a bit nervy in those videos, at least you know Josh will have something interesting to say.
Josh has no chill to the point where he's comically unable to read the room. But when he takes up at least 50% of the room, it turns out that he's actually got a lot of interesting information crammed into his noggin and he ain't half bad at articulating it. He's just not a great entertainer, and HitB is not a show I watch to learn fun trivia so much as to see people shoot flare rockets and gratuitous nudity.
It came out the womb addicted to Rich Evans
that's everyone though??

It's also to this day one of the few video game movies that actually tried to stick to the source material. A cruel irony that the same guy also made Monster Hunter.

It's probably harder to make a true Mortal Kombat movie today than in the 90s. After having to watch MKX videos for a writing assignment, I got the distinct impression that Mortal Kombat is a series of 80s B movie clichés. There's a MacGuffin called the Amulet of Shinnok, there's demons that love to fight, over-the-top gore effects, and Earth is involved because the story needs to have some kind of protagonist even though Earth characters are so boring.

Huh, any form of Mortal Kombat qualifies for Best of the Worst. It's all the same kind of schlock.

I mean it is a series of B-movie cliches, it's Enter the Dragon with some fantasy shit tacked on.

Yeah, hence why I don't understand the hate Jay gives.
I get it. Mortal Kombat is like Power Rangers, if you don’t get it, you never will, and it’s going to be unbearable. I can’t stand either of them, but I can understand the appeal. I’m sure if they ever talk about it, Jay will say something to that effect.

I would think that a man that enjoyed X-Men Apocalypse would have more sympathy for those who love Event Horizon and Mortal Kombat.

But I don't watch RLM to mindlessly agree with everything they say. I watch because I enjoy watching drunken ramblings.

And said man loved the 2.5 hour "remake" of Suspiria. They're fun to watch, but I don't take everything they say as gospel.

I thought the clip of Rich going ching chong would've gotten them into trouble, but it didn't.

There's a lot of bits like that when you go back and dig. I was randomly watching that episode where he goes CHWOING CHWING CHWOYNG and everyone else gives him looks, and I forgot how funny that moment was. Particularly "that's getting cut" -> "that's staying in"

I think it's because they're so insulated. They got to where they are because people love their stuff; they didn't rub elbows and try to network and ride coattails on their way up.
