It really irritated the shit out of me, because other RLMers (definitely Jay and I think Mike or Rich) have said they don't care for MST3K, on the grounds they don't see the point of watching other people mock bad movies. Kinda odd given what they do, but I see their point.

Josh hit pretty much every major joke except for the many names of David Ryder, which would have been a dead giveaway.

Because they are doing that shit for a living. If you watch other people riff on movies you'll never be able to riff on them yourself. Because those already made jokes will always be in your head at that point.
There's only so many jokes you can make about any given movie. And in that case you can at least say you don't watch MST3K if there's some overlap.

Something Josh didn't give a fuck about apparently.

I know for a fact that Rifftrax has riffed the same movie multiple times and also movies that the same guys riffed previously on MST3K. Its really not that hard to overlap jokes unless you're a fucking dweeb like Josh who just wants to repeat things he heard on other shows.

Rifftrax is more edited and scripted though, right? I know the boys are more spontaneous in their reaction shots, and even when they're at the round table, it's mostly them just doing extra takes if someone other than rich wrips over their tords to keep everything coherent. It might make sense not to get the wires crossed between that style of 'watch the movie, try out some jokes, then do a run-through where you keep everything in' and their own 'strike while the iron is hot and mike is drunk' approach.

It's hard for me to go back to TNG after they "Last Jedi" Picard in the Kurtzman spin-off.

I have no problem with it. The tone, feel, themes, writing, and acting of Kurtzman-Trek is so radically different (and never for the better) that it's easy to pretend it's an unrelated universe. Fan-fiction at best, where someone had enough dough to hire Patrick Stewart in his dotage.

So less kurtzman-trek and more kurtzman-galaxyquest?

I rather like the ST-TNG bit they're doing. It's nice to see Mike talk about something he actually loves for once instead of just being the asshole in the room

And watching Rich talk is always enjoyable, I don't really dig his sad sack bit he does in BoTW.

More fun! Less shitty stuff....as life right now is nothing but shit so lets talk about what we actually love an not just talk about how the shitheads are ruining everything.

It would be awesome if Mike dragged all his co-workers to the Milwaukee graveyard and they made a ghost adventures type episode. I bet Jay would love it!
Rich: OH MY GOD a loud noise it might be a ghost!
Jay: (Unenthusiastic) Oh yeah...a ghost. ahhhhh
Mike: We gotta get out of here. Everybody run!
(They all awkwardly shuffle out taking comically small steps)

I want more Mike stupidity about GHOOOOOSSSSTTTTSSS IRL for Halloween.
That nonsense belief make Mike more relatable and flawed for me.

Here's to a HAPPY (and hopeful) HALLOWEEN!
Unironically this. Ghosts are something that Mike is clearly secretly passionate about. They make good money, when the hell is he gonna start his own Ghost Hunting Show? Bring that dark skepicism for a ride, coast to coast, debunk things until they find a hidden island in the bayou of Louisiana where a reclusive woman owns a mansion where none live except her sister, ferryman and the gardner and they speak at length about the ghosts of pirates centuries old. . . .

what was his point?
They were talking about characters debating to solve problems and then cut to the first presidential debate to say the amazing point of orange man and old man bad, but mostly orange man
It didn't take more than a couple of minutes at least
