Jay as son of Plinkett is a great idea!
I don't think Jay could do a point-by-point screenplay critique like Mike can. Mike's mind is oriented toward that sort of thinking, as he puts it he's a "structure guy." Jay is more of a feelings and impressions guy. The sorts of things that anger Mike into making a Plinkett video are irrelevant to Jay.

I've seen Jack mentioned a couple times in the MovieBob thread, but people have mostly been pointing out that Jack's been doing pretty well on the Escapist so far. Not a big draw like Yahtzee, but already doing better than Bobby's anemic numbers. There have been attempts at a podcast with both of them and some other guy, and someone reported how lackluster Bob is in a podcast format, while Jack more or less holds his own. Makes sense when Jack has had considerably more experience with long-form discussions with other people, while all of Bob's content is heavily edited and scripted. I know opinions about Jack's contributions to RLM are mixed, but I'm happy for him that he realized he had a drinking problem and worked to sober up.

In this day and age when pretty much every internet personality ends up having massive skeletons in their closet (as seen in the recent Rooster Teeth sex pervert scandal), it's pretty remarkable that RLM continues to be almost entirely drama-free over a decade later. A lot of people could take a page from RLM's book about work/life separation. I remember growing up how we were constantly warned against sharing too many details about our personal lives online, but after years of social media, it seems that most everyone has been conditioned to share everything, which inevitably gets them into trouble. The internet never forgets, after all.

The difference between someone like Jack and Bob is that while Jack may be a liberal he's still a decent person, unlike Bob.

I just meant Jay playing the character of Plinkett's son in a video, not necessarily him doing a whole Plinkett review by himself.

Jack is a perfect example of how it used to be. I feel like I could have a light argument with him about Trump at the thanksgiving table and neither of us would walk away mad.

He's an old school type liberal, not the lunatics that have cropped up over the last decade.
If you pay attention to the light banter, Rich is actually even more liberal than Jack. All of them are definitely in the 90s liberal camp. Whenever they let some politics slip and it's distinctly liberal, it actually makes me happy. Look, sane ones!

I was shocked when Jack said he didn't vote in the 2016 election on BOTW. I thought that was a dangerous thing to say in his line of work.

Re Plinkett. I'm fine with them never showing up unless Mike is riled up. He only churned them out in the beginning because it was his first taste of viral fame and he thought that's what people wanted. A plinkett review takes a lot of writing and editing and passion. You can tell when he feels like he has to force one out because people expect it vs he feels compelled to make one because something pissed him off. RLM has grown enough that he doesn't HAVE to do anything the fans demand. We'll watch anything. Hence less plinkett. I'd guess an episode of BOTW or HitB requires much less work.

RLM boys are bulletproof. Short of one of them murdering someone absolutely nothing will take them down. They were using retarded in videos as late as 2016. Their "seedy" past is barely a past, there's nothing people don't already know. Being older helps them in this case because they get more of a pass then someone half their age doing the same thing.
Didn't Rich debunk this?
He may have tried to but it's mostly true. Gilchrist embellishes a lot but the core details are real. The weird rant he went on livestream matches up with the details from his email leaks that came from that time period. Jay liked Lisa but was too much of a pussy to do anything, Mike "stole" her from him, they got in a pissing match and hated each other, Mike ditched Jay, Lisa, AND Rich and moved to Arizona then came back and they made up after like a year. Rich had drug addicted parents and lived with his grandma. The link to the Gilchrist email leak is around here somewhere, just use search on page to target when he talks about Mike or Jay and ignore the rest.

I'm actually starting to watch Pre-Rec streams, any good episodes you guys would recommend? I'm enjoying binding of isaac and X-coms currently, also guacamelee.

Am i gonna get yelled for not wanting to go through 300 pages and just asking for quick Quick Rundown on any drama that has involved RLM or their personalities?
There is an assembled "tell all" pic somewhere over the the ra... this thread with info about how they behaved in their younger years. Just some embarassing paths of life we most endured. A fun read but imma on my phone!

I remember the old Sierra adventure games streams were fun, particularly the Police Quest ones. They do voices for the characters and quite a lot of fun in-game stuff happens.

I've been rewatching some of the Halloween BoTW episodes, and it made me realize something about Jack - drunk, he has really good candid reactions and can spew some one-liners. The one with Chopping Mall, Jack is absolutely wasted and is entertaining enough to make up for the fact that the episode's lineup has both Jack & Josh. When he's just tipsy or sober, he tends to run into the problem of trying to make jokes that are a little too structured or run on for a little too long -- he's a little too rigid in the same way that Lyle can be, for those familiar with the antics of Oneyplays.

But what I realized was moreso that sober Jack and Rich kindof overlap the same alchemical sphere: they're the palette cleanser straight-men keeping the shop in order and trying to find the line of logic or reason in any given film. Rich has a bit more range - punching bag, the laugh, his more extreme reactions and body language, so-on; but I fundamentally realized that a Mike-Jay-Jack lineup can be fine if they get another good fourth, and if Jack is relaxed.

The good Pre-Rec episodes with Jack are those in which he's at ease and not trying too hard, and the same seems true whenever he does his stuff with Yahtzee. When he's in a lineup with Rich, the problem is just that Rich outshines his shtick; a Jack-Jay-Mike-Colin lineup could be pretty good. If he genuinely was alcoholic, it makes some sense that he may have come to rely on alcohol to avoid performance anxiety; it would make sense it'd take him a while to get used to performing sober and find his mojo again.

From what I remember of Pre-Rec streams, and I just watched them doing computer work in the morning on youtube, so they were always two weeks behind, was that:

-the Zelda/XCom/Friday the 13th/Dark Souls/Bloodborne/Mario ones were good for idle chitchat
-anytime Rich or Jack solo played a game you can skip because he doesn't look at the chat
-and Jay showed up in quite a few to talk and you'd get more in depth movie talk or just 90's nostalgia talk. A quick check of their videos has Jay doing some Zelda and Friday 13th ones.

Sometimes it seemed like they would read superchats and just half ass the answers or just not understand the question, and Rich's fiance would get annoying when she popped up in later episodes, as she really came across like the woman who has to control the conversation.

I remember reading several opinions that Pre-Rec was ass and only good when Mike showed up because he'd be drunk half the time and would without fail shit all over whatever it was they were playing. I watched a compilation video of all his appearances and can confirm that it is extremely cathartic watching a surly, confused, inebriated Wisconsinite calling my favorite hobby a thing for idiot children.
