If he tweeted in favor of Tucker Carlson he would have thousands unfollowing him and someone would probably try to get him fired off his job, but he's acting like a hero for losing 4 followers? It just seem removed from reality at best, even if you agree with his gist.

In contrast, RLM seem to almost have a company policy to not engage on social media. Mike could easily be using the official company twitter to trash Trump all day, since so many others seem to, so that's something.

But it makes me wonder if and how much they do discuss political stuff off camera, and if due to more and more personalities feeling the need to signal where they stand, RLM will break that policy eventually.

Meh, these two live in Toronto so it's only to be expected that they're progressives. FYI Toronto is just the San Fransisco of Canada, so if they want work they'd better preach the party line loud and clear.

Which is a bit of a shame as I tend to enjoy Colin's geekiness when him and Jay sperg out about obscure movie making shit.

I always enjoyed Jack playing the straight man/butt of jokes. While Rich filled in the "lovable doofus" part of that role, Jack would sometimes play the "naive innocent" version of the role. I dunno, I laughed at his horrified shock more than once.

That's definitely true. Not sperging about their political opinions (in any direction) in their videos also makes them come across as way more reasonable, level-headed, likable, and less narcissistic than most internet assholes (who have to use their "platforms" to "make a difference" or whatever). I honestly believe that's one reason they have such a huge audience.

In this age of pathetic monetized "outrage," RLM provides an example more people would be following if they cared less about the immediate future and more about the long-term future. But everyone in entertainment (and in business, and in politics, and in...) is apparently short-sighted these days

I actually think Mac episodes are pretty good, though that seems to be an unpopular opinion here. He comes off as kind of an arrogant guy, but at the same time he doesn't get sensitive about it when they bust his chops over it. I like his chemistry with Rich too.

I think it was in the Star Wars thread that I saw some enlightening discussion on Hollywood accounting, but I don't remember who posted it. Either way, my understanding is that there's so much fuckery going on in Hollywood that it's possible to get away with all kinds of shit before anyone actually asks "okay, but is this really making us any money?" Between very creative accounting and greenlighting projects that don't go anywhere, the goal is to keep up appearances, keep investors thinking that everything's going okay, and hope that enough of it works out to let you keep the scam going.

In that regard, I could see streaming making the lies even easier to sell. They could easily fudge the numbers with how many subscribers are watching their drek, create a bunch of bots to post glowing praise on social media, maybe even falsely inflate the number of subscribers (create accounts and make subscriptions with company money, so the money goes right back into the company). As long as they have something positive to show to the shareholders and it's believable enough to keep stock prices going up, they can keep making absolute garbage that no real human is watching.

So yeah. It's all lies. I have no doubt that Mike's correct that it's nothing but bots.

Once or twice was fine, but he started to piss me off appearing in every video. The BunnyEars ad and that other guy lurking around in the background felt very un-RLM.

Max is... a complicated figure, yes he's a douchebag but he's got a certain energy that makes him entertaining to watch and he had good chemistry with the RLM crew.

I have to say this for Jack: he delivered one of my favorite moments of all time on RLM, which was "WAKE UP, DICKHEADS, IT'S TIME FOR FAUST!" Actually, his whole reaction to that movie is great.

His Re:View with Jay on Re-Animator and From Beyond is pretty damn good, too.

On this I disgaree. Everything involving Max Landis in his one BotW is unbearable. It's a shame that episode marked their first encounter with Neil Breen. The Breen stuff is great, probably because it's just too weird for even Max to ruin.
