Word on the street is that Admiral fuckface WAS going to be the one leading the fleet.

Then at some point along the way they realized... "hm. nobody likes her." And decided to put fan favorite Riker in the chair instead.
I think the reaction to Admiral Holdo had something to do with the change.
People don't like old hags chastising characters we like and then being portrayed as heroes. Who knew?

I watched the Plinkett episode less than an hour after airing, and man, that was a total return to form. Amazing the effort Mike puts in when he wants to make a review; the SW sequels felt like an obligation for him to me.

But man, all those interviews and tweets literally gave my eyes cancer. Hearing those idiots and the deluded fans who defend them makes me absolutely embarrassed by association, even when I don't need to be. They're the same species as me, that alone is enough to make anyone ashamed.

Hopefully this was therapy for Mike, to finally admit old Trek is dead for now.

Things were fine as recently as the 2000s, which was the post 9/11 era and people were concerned, but people didn't let their concern give way into nihilism, so what went wrong in the 2010s?

A little name you might have heard:

"Obama"

I can't believe how many hiveminds have banned RLM reviews, simply because they say things they don't like. But the funniest part is, by banning something, you only make people more curious about it. Jack Thompson could tell you all about that one. :story:
Fucking sheep.

The new Plinkett review was based. Same flair and detail that Mike gave SW.

I did a capture and extraction of the best segment of Plinkett's review.

Wasn't there a juxtaposition after this with all the gross, gory, alcoholic, crude, miserable scenes from Picard? I have to admit that's the part that made me chuckle out loud.

I'm also glad to hear Mike say that there FUCKING IS a market for somewhat cerebral, episodic ST drama. They would have a huge hit on their hands but they're too stubborn or stupid to see it. These monstrous, CG heavy TV shows have become so blase. I saw that whole fleet battle at the end of the show and it did nothing for me.

But why would Riker tell Commodore O(range) he's Acting Captain? Doesn't that just undermine any authority he has? Oh wait, I'm using my brain to try and make sense of things...

I only just now learned that RLM is blocked on Twitter by both Shatner and CBS. There's something so unbelievably inherently pathetic about getting blocked by celebrities and businesses that you've even never interacted with that I don't think I can put it into words.

Yeah, they reshot that scene at the last minute, probably after they wrote and shoot the Riker episode.

Well in the same episode the romulans on her ship are calling her "Admiral O", so... I doubt that they have a script supervisor.

Shatner is a big shitposter on Twitter but sometimes he blocks people if they keep tweeting random crap.

He may be a good book writer but he was working on another medium, and was working with the guy who brought us Batman and Robin.
That other guy also did A Winter's Tale too, though. And i have an unexplainable fondness for that film.

Of course that was the only film he wrote, directed AND produced...

Counter Point: M from NuBond was pretty bad ass lady who had her character arc done really well even though she had to deal with shit upto her eyeballs. Took 3 movies for her to be 'liked' but her death was good closure.

same scene or therabouts they are calling her General as well. I think the only think they haven't called her for was late to dinner and hoooo boy I'd hate to be THAT guy.

Actually I might be wrong (I have not watched the episode since it aired), they called her "Commodore", which was her Starfleet rank, not the Tal Shiar/Zhat Vash one (because apparently she was also the head of the Tal Shiar and the Zhat Vash).

There's one thing that I wish Mike/Plikett had talked about is in regards of the "Captain" who had a creepy relationship with Riker's daughter, you know, the guy who texted back their daughter with the exact location of Soji's homeworld after she texted him a brief description of the place.

Consistency is not a concept known to Star Trek writers.
It's just Kurtzman and his writers having no idea of what they're doing. It's like when Riker says to JL that he is on "active reserve", I'm not a military guy but I've heard that it's not the right term.
It's quite unbelievable that they couldn't afford a military advisor or even a script supervisor.
