I agree. I think most people gave it a pass/enjoyed it because they were (me included) under the illusion they were going to build off it.
I was right in the middle of the spectrum on TFA. It was a working movie that I stayed engaged with the whole time, but with all the references and obvious setups for other stories I got 'marvel burnout' right away.

TFA for me was like Stark Trek 2009 (Except I liked it a hell of a lot less than ST09, SERIOUSLY A THIRD DEATHSTAR BUT THIS TIME A PLANET?) in that I was like as long as the sequels are better I don't mind it too much and as long as they can avoid another "into darkness" as the second movie than the trilogy might be good and then the last Jedi happened and the into darkness flashbacks began.

No movie made me nearly as angry as Star Trek Into Darkness until fuckin' The Last Jedi.

Yup, history repeated itself.

Star Trek 2009 and TFA were mediocre, but not bad, were good jumping off points for something better, but the second movie just ruined everything.

I actually enjoyed Star Trek 2009 more than TFA because in 2009 that type of revival of an old property was still a novelty, there a special kind of excitement to it, by 2015 it seemed like almost every nostalgic franchise had been revived, so there was less novelty.

I will never in my life, ever fucking understand this point of view. JJ Abrams is the King, no, the fucking Imperator himself of disappointment. Did Cloverfield's plot have anything to do with that huge marketing campaign? No. Did LOST deliver on its promised cliffhangers and all the questions it raised? No. Hey, remember Star Trek Into Darkness where they kept saying the bad guy wasn't gonna be Khan and it wasn't going to be a shitty, horrible remake of Wrath of Khan and then it actually was?

Even if Abrams was confirmed to helm all three of the new Star Wars movies and Rian Johnson remained some nobody, I would bet you anything the ending still would have sucked, not answered any of the questions it raised, and featured a shitty twist or annoying cliffhanger. I have absolutely no clue why anyone familar with Abrams's work would genuinely think the new Star Wars trilogy was going to not have a shit ending.

I don't think this was posted but Mike has decided to validate Patton Oswalt's TDS.

Maybe I'm just being optimistic here but since the quote in question is about accepting that Trump is gonna win and there's nothing you can do about it, it could just be Mike poking fun at how much Oswalt cares. Mike has a weird sense of humor like that.

lol calm down

When The Force Awakens first came out, I would say that I liked it less than Mike and Jay initially did, but ever-so-slightly more than Rich did. I was basically like, "Yeah, it's a ripoff of A New Hope and there's a lot of lame stuff in it like Starkiller Base, but it's technically a well-made movie that sets up a lot of cool things for future movies. Let's hope those future movies deliver. I hope we see more from Poe and Finn. They're the standout new characters for me." Bahahaha, how naive I was, even though I was never in love with the movie to begin with.

My favorite moment in this Sequel Trilogy, without a doubt, was Finn and Poe's escape from the First Order. That sequence was so much fun! It is by far the most Star Wars-y thing in these god-awful movies.

I was pretty much "over it" with The Force Awakens the second time I saw it. I was on my smart phone almost the entire time because I was so bored. Because of this, I was never all that hyped for The Last Jedi. Little did I know that I would react so negatively towards THAT fucking abomination of a movie ...

Anyway, The Rise of Skywalker has been out for, what? 7 hours now? Where's the Half in the Bag review, already?! Those hackfrauds. Haha.

The TFA Plinkett felt slightly forced but I thought the Ghostbusters 2016 Plinkett was great.

Am I alone on this?

I undertand the grievances with the Plinkett TFA review ... But I think it did a good takedown of Disney owning Star Wars altogether; about the brand itself being cheapened by Disney. Didn't really pull any punches about it in that retrospect. In terms of lengthy film analysis, though? Yeah, I understand the disappointment. It's still an entertaining video for me, though.

The Ghostbusters 2016 Plinkett review was great, I thought.

Nope, you're not alone, the Ghostbusters 2016 review was great.

I'm mostly still salty above Cloverfield because I was young and stupid enough to buy into that one. The rest I actually never watched and just looked up later to see if my suspicions were confirmed.

They were.

Thing is, Cloverfield was a lot of fun in theaters, while all the marketing stuff was just to drum up attention for a smaller scale film and wound up not being real relevant, the final movie itself was fun enough that it wasn't that big of a disappointment.

Keep in mind JJ was only producer on Cloverfield, not the director.

No, Mike is a TDS suffering faggot. He wouldn't shut the fuck up about TRUMP = CLAMP on the Gremlins 2 audio track. And, lately, he's been using 'cracker' a lot when talking about white people. I'm guessing he likes to watch niggers run a train on his wife/gf (assuming he has one) while he jerks off in the closet.
