Someone hasn't enjoyed the fun in editing. All those hours of trimming, audiocorrections, mixing, trimming again, uh... the audio is off, that's four more hours if lucky, such bliss it is to edit. I'm truly jealous...

I learned how to edit as a literal child when I made claymations and YouTube poops. Not that difficult 🤔

I wasn't talking Windows Movie Maker shit. I mean multi-camera/Audio- editing, in an (often, there were some sloppy episodes out there) professional manner. Call that easy, and i'll call you sleazy, Trollet kära.

Don't they take turns editing per video?

Think Mike & Jay take turns on projects but that doesn't change the fact i'd rather go back to forestry in a scandinavian snow storm for 8 hours, being able to turn off my job mentally when i get home than have to edit, produce, and maintain a YT product to keep food on my table.

That would make you a stupid, stupid man. Hopefully you get lost out in a snowstorm and freeze to death while they pass out drunk on the couch watching movies.

Just going to leap frog all the AIDS going on in this thread...

It isn't just that, He also more of a Movie guy than a Video Game guy, he likes Video Games but he doesn't eat, sleep and breathe them like Mike Mattei does.
That can sort of be applied to RLM too. Mike and Jay like making movies more then reviewing them. Jay seems more into cinema then Mike does. Whenever they talk about movies Jay brings up other movies he has seen by that director or other movies in that genre and Mike doesn't name drop directors or styles too often, he mostly mentions liking to pick apart movies on a technical level. And the majority of their opinions on movies are that they were just "ok". Everything blends together after a while and they've been doing HitB for almost 8 years.
Similarly I think the failure of Space Cop killed some of RLM’s momentum, not as drastically but again you can see a clear difference in energy pre and post Space Cop, I wanna say it was post Space Cop or not long too after that they started releasing way less videos than they used to, even if in that case it was more a gradual thing.
I'm currently working my way through their back catalog trying to pin point where the vibe seems to change, but I've had a similar opinion. They had Feeding Frenzy, they spent a few years promoting it, then went right to Space Cop which took them years to make. It was their outlet for what they really enjoy which is making shlock for themselves. After Space Cop they didn't have any more "fun" background projects lined up and still apparently don't. They probably feel they don't have the time or energy for a side project, which is a little sad. Not for fans but for them not having that "fun" shit going on. They seemed really excited about making Space Cop.

But the tl;dr of it was that a) Jessi and Mike broke up
Mike is at a place where he enjoys The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel more than Star Trek right now.

I always get the feeling that Mike isn't necessarily comfortable with being the "face" of the company since he doesn't seem to like to engage online outside of the videos. It's why Jay seems to handle all the twitter and Patreon stuff.

It's funny, but I was about to suggest they give movies another go. Maybe try something a bit more earnest and less ironic than Space Cop. If necessary, get one of their writer friends to help them with a script. Too many youtuber movies pull the irony card anyways. Mike seems to like directing and it might be a nice change of pace for them. They'd get tons of kickstarter support.
First 2 points gonna need a source. There has never been any definitive proof either way of what happened to Jessi. The fact she disappeared and still isn't active online points to me to that she's likely still with him and keeping a low profile for personal reasons, but who really knows. Mike is actually the one running the RLM Twitter and it's pretty obvious. Jay at least has his own Twitter he uses but Mike stays behind the company one, liking Zach Baggins tweets and shit. He used to be more comfortable with fans during the Plinkett days, giving interviews going to cons, and being more chatty on Twitter. Then at some point he closed up and now who the hell knows. He probably got stalked by crazies and was spooked.

I feel like the guys hate Kickstarter and would never use it despite it likely working out well for them. They'd have a new movie financed by the fans in a week. Maybe they don't need it. They make around $40,000 a month from Patreon. I don't know what Space Cop's budget was but they mentioned Feeding Frenzy costing $4,000 in an old HitB. Depending on how they split the money between themselves, they could have a lot left over in a studio slush fund. It's not like they buy new equipment all the time or build a ton of new sets. Rent on the warehouse, utilities, and insurance is probably the most expensive monthly cost. But they moved to the new studio in like 2012 before they had Patreon money so if they could somehow afford to build all those sets + rent then they sure as hell have no problem now. Dudes are probably living the good life with that Patreon dough, good for them.

Mack again... I don't hate him or anything but he is showing up way too much and I am getting tired of him. Mack guest-star drinking game: take a shot every time he goes "Nyeeeessss".

They literally sit and talk about movies for a living.
Sure, editing can be time consuming but if that's your only job, to sit on your ass at whichever hour you want on whichever day you want, then it's nothing.
Yes, it's a job but an easy and fun one.

Think that they may be burned out?
Try working at a hotel where you have to move fast and always be smiling and enthusiastic for pocket change and you don't get thousands of fans praising you every day. Instead of memes being made after you make a mistake, you get told "one more time and you're fired".
That's where you get burned out.

Ugh, not this again. I am regretting bringing up that Mike seemed burnt out. I did not expect or want this level of bullshit. No one is saying it's the hardest job to ever exist. You want an argument, read the last few pages. There's more to it than that and we know it. I wasn't looking for a debate about the minute details or suicide sperging. GDI.

I’m somewhere in the middle on this issue, I’m sure a lot of hard work goes into what they do but let’s keep some perspective here, it’s not digging ditches.

If they need a break that’s fine but I see no reason they should call it quits anytime soon, that would be ungratefully squandering a great opportunity.

If you immerse yourself in media, deeply, as deeply as anyone like Mike, James, Ross or hell even Civvie 11 and SFDebris, something went fucking wrong with you years ago and now the real world is miserable. Look at all the drinking, pill and suicide jokes Mike makes in the RLM videos. You think those are just edgy humor? I don't. I think those come from being a total fucking depressive. Its why we love him, because when he makes a joke about blowing his brains out, we laugh harder because deep down we all feel that way and just want the world to slow down and get better just like he does.
Because I need the autism ratings...

SFDebris and GoodBadFlicks have both talked about how they turned to their review videos full time after losing their day jobs.

It's actually kind of interesting stories. Cecil legit seems to be enjoying himself and I think part of it is because he loves to find out the stories behind the films he watches.

So you can't name a single job easier than theirs?

Board member of Burisma.
