This episode wasn't too funny. The movies were sort of boring and didn't provide much for them to rip on and Mike-less panels tend to be less funny overall. The Canadians are a welcome sight though haven't seen them on BotW in a while.

It doesn't help that they talked about The Instructor for what felt like 45 minutes.

The audio clipping in the discussion segment on this new BotW is god awful.
Why would they not just use full-sized mics and put them on the table instead of having the audio get completely fucked every time one of them raises their voice or speaks into their lapel mic.

You'd think that people that make smarmy jokes about other filmmakers' technical competence would try a little harder to not fuck up basic shit that even tweens making Minecraft videos have figured out.

And apparently that was after they cut out a ton. Didn't Jay mention in the episode they spent an hour and a half talking about the first 2 movies? This is what happens when Mike isn't on panel to keep discussions moving.

Yeah, Mike’s got that “drunken Russian who’ll glass your face if you bore him” attitude that was missing in this episode.
That gay Canadian skinhead and his dad are entertaining enough, but they need to be reined in.

Colin, I'm guessing from the description.
That’s right, Susan!

I think Mike-less panels are like handicap skill episodes to see how well the rest of the crew can get on without him. Jay plus the Canadians makes for a very cerebral episode but the problem is anyone who would be in seat 4 (Mike, Jack, Josh, Rich) wouldn't be able to keep up the film buffiness.

Jay's finally going through puberty.

I actually liked this one a lot; I enjoyed it more than some of the other recent regular BotWs, and it's probably the best Mike-less episode I can remember.

Also, Jim didn't fall asleep with his eyes open halfway through like he usually does.

I also really liked this one, in a laid back kind of way. And none of the films were lacking in weird content. I think that rotating the cast around gives episodes variety in their energy and content. You get some laid back episodes where Jay gets genuinely interested in Pits and Dario Argento knockoffs, and you get others where a bitter and sarcastic mike Mike aggressively makes fun of fat people. And people can rewatch whatever episode speaks to their own brand of autism.

The Canadians look really old in this episode
Agree but couldn't quite put my finger on why though. Jim looked pretty haggard but I went back to check his last few appearances and he's always some degree of disheveled looking. Collin is the oldest of everyone (he's almost 47) so his aging is just aging. It's just offputting because he simultaneously looks like the oldest AND someone's son.

You also had some pretty limp editing from Jay this episode. Jay is not as good a comedy editor as Mike, but his job in this episode was particularly lifeless.

Panelist makes pop culture reference -> Jay inserts five second clip of referenced material -> Episode grinds to a screeching halt while clip plays out
