I guess my ultimate RLM unpopular opinion is that I've never been able to finish watching the Len Kavisinsky episode. I would genuinely, honest-to-god rather watch the Max Landis BoTW over that one.

The dude was completely humorless and had nothing interesting to say. Being a maker of movies by itself doesn't make you an interesting person. I know Jay would vehemently disagree with that; he's head-over-heels fascinated and in love with people who make movies. I guess I'm not.

I don't like Patton and his TDS but he's arguably a multi-talented person and does have a rudimentary sense of humor, so is interesting to talk to. I can watch his episode. I cannot for the life of me watch a 7-foot-tall big dumb viking who is even less talented than Tommy Wisseau.

Patton Oswalt is also very talented at killing his wife!

I spent his whole episode waiting for a cameo from Mrs. Plinkett!

Revenge ... revenge ...

The best joke in that botw is ironically them undercutting Patton with Rich.

Yeah but that one was very disappointing, idk if Patton's humor just doesn't mesh with the other guys or what but a lot of his jokes fell flat.
Especially the censored words joke, which doesn't work because when the RLM guys bleep words out you know it's because they said some heinous shit, Patton's mild talk show humor is not nearly on their level of crudeness. They may have been better off sticking him in the re:view set with Jay, Jay will treat you like a celebrity, Mike or Rich will not.

And he cut off Ratatoing because I guess doing something funny is too much for a comedian.

Knowing RLM, that was always the plan. They just wrote in a skit where Oswalt got them out of it as a bit.

But yeah, some people just don't mesh on the BOTW set. A Re:View could work with someone in the industry. Like when Mac was on for Raising Arizona and he was able to explain how they did the "Drive right up to the baby" shot without hitting him, because they did a similar thing with him for Home Alone. Not sure what Oswalt could do.

From what Len Kabasinsky has said himself, his son has autism. A few of his films have had an autistic character in them. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say he's likely on the spectrum himself. Probably a nice enough person, but doesn't instinctually get what BotW is about though he gets it in theory. I like to rewatch the episode because of the riffing on Bigfoot vs DB Cooper, but he sucks some of the fun out of it.

The skit on the height difference with Jay was funny, though.

The one he was in (Bigfoot vs. D.B. Cooper, Black Couger, Raw Force) where they were all drinking (starting with Saki, with Rich subbing in energy shots) was pretty good IMHO. They poked plenty of fun at him and he had some fun moments himself (all the ripping they've done on his movies and all the teasing, but what finally "offended" him (jokingly) was a remark about long-hairs being freaks). and the three films were great abuse fodder.

I don't even remember the first one he was in, which probably lines up with your impression that he wasn't that funny the first time 'round.

lol of course if this is his only BOTW appearance reviewing films with them then I've just unintentionally disagreed with you and I therefore suck cock :story:

Len's second appearance on botw is definitely better than the ninja movies episode his first time around even though the ass burgers is still apparent. The bit where he stops the flow of the conversation to demand everyone take turns saying one positive about the movies is particularly awkward.
The one I've never watched again was when Mac had his little faggot tag along, which is a shame because I wanted them to see Winterbeast for years. From what I remember though their reaction to it was lukewarm despite it being an insane movie.

The RLM people really just make content they want for their own reasons. Len on BOTW is a good example, he is an important person in their friend group and it looked to me they where excited to share something they love doing with some one they loved.

Much like para-social relationships with say streamers, they had the same thing going with Len.

The latest review with Josh seemed like a favor to do a tribute to his dead friend. Even if I don't like some of their videos I do like that they continue to be genuine.

i have never been able to get through any of the episodes they have with people from the "industry." jack quaid, macauly culkin, patton oswald, samurai cop, i often skip them if i see someone i dont recognize at the beginning anymore

Winterbeast is the most accurate depiction of life in the Berkshires ever put to film.

I wanted them to see Winterbeast for years.
"Hey! I'm just tryin' to make conversation here." "Well, you're sure doing a shitty job of it." [instant barfight ensues]

I have never laughed harder in my life. The deadpan delivery of the second line along with the over-the-top reaction to it fucking kills me every time I hear it.

What's weird is they did feature that moment in the episode, but didn't really say anything about it. Sure, it's a comedic moment that stands on its own, but it was certainly ripe for riffing.

Patton Oswalt just isn't funny. The funniest thing he ever did was kill his wife.

And he cut off Ratatoing because I guess doing something funny is too much for a comedian.
He likely has some kind of deal with Disney unironically. For example, Tom Kenny is no longer allowed to use the Spongebob voice for any other character despite having used it before he took on the role. Oswalt likely has some kind of non disparagement agreement with Ratatouille if he wants to continue voicing him, getting residuals, etc. And watching/riffing on a blatant Ratatouille rip off is just asking for trouble from the house of mouse.
