Breakdown is a perfect 90 thriller.
Not a stupid confulted plot, easy to follow but still a mystery to what is going on.
I would say it is a perfect 7/10 movie. Damn good movie that does it job very well.
I also never heard about the opening they wanted for the movie and the director was so correct about not needing it.

Ah, shit, I forgot that I hate this genre -- I saw Duel early in life, and while it was a tense thriller, the StrawDogs-ification of American cinema, hatred of the rural [anything White-coded, really] is so in-my-face now that I can't enjoy this the way I used to.

Whatever plans they seem to have for a sequel film sound equally as awful (they were indeed planning on race+gender swapping the Rocketeer, per last time I checked).
