I agree, but I do think that using extreme outliers like Tom Cruise as a metric isn’t really useful.
With the sheer number of hopefuls in Hollywood there's a real question of who isn't an "outlier" that has any success or what even counts for normal.

Fact: RLM made friends in Hollywood, and are now pulling their punches.

RLM fanboys would not hesitate to call anyone else a "sellout" ... But because it's RLM, we should all get a life and not question anything.

Mkay.

Does that mean Chris Stuckmann will be joining the crew?

You know as much shit that Stuckmann (correctly) got when he announced he was gonna start pulling his punches on his reviews cause he's trying to get into the movie industry, I think it's more respectable than what RLM does. What exactly do they get outta this? They got these Hollywood connections and all they've have to say for it is a couple voice cameos in a cartoon and a video game. They clearly stopped caring about filmmaking a while ago so why the dog and pony show in cases like defending Hollywood nepotism? Why not even try to make a pilot for Adult Swim or a short film on Hulu? What happened? At least Stuckmann is taking a risk as he became a pushover.

Is Stuckmann really taking a risk? The film he's making is a generic horror movie and a lot of actors and such can still shit talk movies and get work.

Cuckmann is just taking an unnecessary moral high ground out of a sense of superiority.

RLM is more jaded and just tired at this point but can still be negative and critical unlike Stuckmann who tries his damnest to praise every movie that comes out even if it is openly trashed on by the people who work on it or finance it publicly.

"Hack Frauds" is the brand safety net for the fanbase (who resemble the personalities parodied in The Nerd Crew more closely than any are comfortable admitting). Those who have been plugged into the RLM Friends Simulator for twelve or more years, at this point, are not likely to cancel their Patreon subs, click the "Unsubscribe" button on Youtube, or abstain from repeating the same two dozen quotes in comments sections for the sake of signaling to the world that they're big fans of The Thing Where The Guy Said The Thing About The Thing.

Mike, Jay, and Rich will coast on this good will until they're on the fan convention panel and booth circuit, or dead.

That RLM have to reassert they are media critics and not social critics is damning enough of the bagillion Drinker-lite channels. This second wave (arguably third) of self-styled social critics are goddawful headline skimming copycats that make The Quartering sound erudite. To the point where I'm almost convinced at least half of them are astroturfed by Disney to muddy the search algorithm.

I'm just thrilled Michael is bringing up one of the best recent animes to compare acolyte to.

This is quality discussion.

I stopped watching their reviews of recent shows a while ago, for the most part strictly Best of the Worst for me, they were always better at marveling and going over weird low-budget movies and instructional videos and so on than being critics of actual theatrical releases, I found some of their opinions on recent films baffling - not because they liked movies I disliked or vice versa but because I would be left wondering "what exactly are these wishy-washy fellas trying to say?"

And he's a relic of a past era. The 90s was the last time Hollywood was a major source of American culture. I guess Chris Hemsworth is kinda a movie star, or at least has made serious attempts at doing so, but I didn't see the Extraction movies. Maybe he would have been 30 years ago when Hollywood actually did care about making money instead of DEI shows.

Back to RLM, yeah, there's something insincere about making an hour long video where you don't care about the subject matter. Even worse when they can't correctly diagnose why Hollywood media is terrible like Rich saying that diversity is not the reason why Ghostbuster 2016 failed; it absolutely is the reason because feminists have the same character as the Klansmen and it showed when Melissa McCarthy insulted the audience and Stenberg more recently. Instead of entertaining, they decided to lecture and berate to cover up their terrible work, and that is what makes DEI shows unforgiveable to American culture instead of standard garbage like Ahsoka.

EDIT: I forgot that ST: Discovery DID do their version of Ki-Adi Munda retcon and it was Michael Burham being Spock's sister. And Spock himself is an autistic tard that literally said, "I like science." I hear they retconned Kirk and Pike too in Strange New Worlds and all that was because of DEI mandates.

I lost faith when they tricked me into watching A Ghost Story.

Kristen Stewart is a shit actress and the game of the Oscars and all that has been long proven to be a bullshit game of favors and propaganda.

Moving on.

What was weird about that Acolyte review was that they were telling us that we're making too big a deal out of the culture war stuff, but then they would rub our nose in it to show us how bad it actually is (like that extended Wil Wheaton Stacey Abrams clip). So no, I'm not sure that I know what their real opinion actually is.
I think that's the biggest actual problem with this video: nobody really understands their position on the show, and that feels like a perhaps insincere attack to people who cannot believe how aggressively awful The Acolyte is (so, most people).

I think the "Well, stop watching it and it will go away," is the most disingenuous part of RLM's review. Of COURSE it's not going to go away if you stop watching it. Hollywood is no longer as interested in making money as it is in spreading its DEI messages. It's going to keep cranking out the same anti-white/male shit that it has been cranking out for the past few years. Ideologues have taken over the entertainment industry and have turned popular franchises into propaganda generators. RLM provided ample proof of this in their video, yet they refuse to acknowledge it as anything other than a cause for mild concern.

They're also delusional if they think they're going to break into the movie industry as a bunch of fat white males. According to CRT, they're privileged, so they'll have to go to the bottom of the heap to make way for stunning and brave transwymyn of color. Mike is either going to become completely buckbroken by his experiences in Hollywood, or he'll hold onto his Boomer delusion that Everything is Fine until society collapses.

RLM IS privileged, but not in the way DEI executives think. They're Youtubers that do not have to do the content grind nor have a consistent release schedule and still get a million views talking about niche subjects.

I generally agree with the sentiment of "don't like it, don't watch it!" from a pure self-care perspective, but I really hate the way it's used as a vector to shut down criticism. It would be a fine defense if I was going to go shit on a random romcom or something I was never going to enjoy anyway, but that isn't what's happening here. The entirety of Star Wars since 2017 has been nonstop "Hey, see those classic fans over there? Fuck those guys, amirite?" They do literally every single thing they can to bait your attention, everything they can to annoy you and make you angry, then Mike is gonna come in with his boomer take of "lmao just let them take another dump on your face. How does the state of modern culture affect you in any way?"

I genuinely hope that the rumors that he's trying to be a good goy for Hollywood are false, and this is just the result of resignation and alcoholism-induced brain holes. If it really is the former that might be the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. I really don't want to believe a cameo on Smiling Friends was Mike's thirty pieces of silver.

GenX lived through Political Correctness and aggressive censorship by the Moral Majority, which is something some of you darn lawn kids have yet to experience (oh, don't fret, it's coming...) Certainly none of the social critics on YT have the first clue what's attached to the pendulum when it swings back. The classic 90s example was a Bill Hicks routine being censored on Letterman because the commercial break contained a big spending pro-life account.

RLM is trying to avoid taking a side in a corporate-generated illusionary culture war because they have already lived through two of them. They know it's marketing bullshit for shoddy products tempered by the hand wringing of advertisers. The closest Mike ever got was downing a bottle of vodka and flipping off the accusation that you hate women if you don't give money to Ghostbusters 2016, and that's not nearly crossing a picket line.

Bill Hicks 1993: "Comedy in the States has been totally gutted, it’s commercialized. They don’t have people on TV who have points of view, because that defies the status quo, and we can’t have that in the totalitarian mind-control government that runs the fuckin’ airwaves. I can’t get a shot there. I get David Letterman a lot. I love Letterman, but every time I go on, we have tiffs over material. They love me, but his people have this fictitious mainstream audience they think they play to..."

WTF are you talking about? Youtube and Facebook and all American social media censor way harder than anything that happened in the 80s and 90s. The Culture war is real, but this time it's the Left behind it. You will suck the Black lesbian dildo and you will like it.
