I don't think diversity adds or detracts anything in a lot of circumstances. Period pieces are the one thing that shouldn't be diverse, since historical revisionism bugs me. Like that Doctor Who clip where they go to Victorian England and he's like "That's right. Tons of rich blacks back then." Which is just silly. Same goes for settings that wouldn't be diverse either. Like a show set in Maine or some small midwestern town shouldn't have to have every other character be black/latino/gay/whatever, since that's heinously unrealistic and immersion breaking.

What bugs me the most is how self-congratulatory everyone who makes a show or movie with a diverse cast is. I first noticed it with Star Trek Discovery's press junket. And my first thought was "No shit. It's Star Trek. It's always had a pretty diverse cast." But you never saw Rick Berman or whatever sucking his own cock on a Comic Con stage about it. If a lot of these media types just didn't address it at all, it'd come off as at least 40% less obnoxious. But everyone wants social media brownie points now or to feel like they're owning some twitter chuds.

The problem I have is that in order to pander to the pro-Acolyte crowd, you have to make a number of concessions to make them sympathetic. The other side? Just want a good story, which Acolyte definitely doesn't have.

I also think it's rich that Mike is acting like the complainers don't have much ground to stand on when his original rise to fame came from complaining about how much people should hate the prequels.

You’re probably right. They’re not dumb guys, they probably know that heel-turning and pretending to like Disney’s current Star Wars slop is gonna get infinitely more rage-clicks and engagement than if they just agreed with everyone else that it stinks.
Ah yes, the classic "I was being retarded on purpose!" defense.

Always works well for everyone ...

I wouldn't be surprised if they go the SJW route given the company they choose to keep and their intention to keep things "clean" these days.
That would be hilarious because the SJW crowd on Twitter already hate them and shows how out of touch they truly became. Doug Walker, Brad Jones and AVGN will remain timeless. They mostly stay apolitical or make fun of both sides. The rest of channel awesome went full on SJW communists, and they are all failures still crying about Doug Walker. Only Lindsa Ellis saw success on breadtube because they had already turned on her. Most political Doug Walker get makes fun of Joe Biden and Trump at the same time for being stupid and bad presidents.

I thought it was funny that the first 57 minutes of the 1:26:00 runtime was spent talking about the culture wars. I thought it was even funnier that the show itself was so boring that I didn't care enough to finish the video.

They're trying a bit too hard to go the route of the "enlightened centrists". The closest they get to really saying something of merit is when Mike says something like "a lot of writers these days are really turning their noses up at their audience". It's like everyone hired the PR lady who was in charge of the Ghostbusters remake to handle all interviews and twitter accounts these days. Just non-stop riling people up and calling people racists or sexists. I get they don't wanna get any negative press or have a legion of psycho troon shitting up their twitter or DDOSing their site, but their take just boils down to "Uh, actually, both sides are retarded. The show is mid anyways".

Its kind of hard not to have this take when everything around this show is left and right wing grifters talking about this show, fat incel losers vs other fat incel losers arguing, click bait articles and then the show itself which is just boring at best and cringey at worst.

Kinda. I do think those culture war ragebait channels are pretty bad. But, I feel like they could have been a bit more biting. They didn't even mention that the showrunner was Weinstein's secretary/Fredo and whatnot. Just a very kiddie-proofed, tame video.

I would love it if they went harder but I think they didn't do it cause in their minds Star Wars cant be saved. Which I agree with it. I don't see the point in getting angry or happy with Disney Star Wars. Yeah once in a while we get a Mandalorian season 1 and 2 or Andor but its mostly shit. The best approach to all of this is apathy. Apathy is death for Disney.

incels aren't real and your argument loses all weight when you say it. Give me all the dumb stickers you want.

What a timeline we live in, where people are singing the praises of Doug Walker, and turning on RedLetterMedia.

Even 5 years ago, this would have been unheard of.
I don't think RLM hates their audience as so much as they hate how their audience weaponizes them. People love to post their clips to mock and insult the mindless consumer, redditors and the like. And I get the impression that they're sick of it and just want to do their thing and not see a clip being used to tell a guy to kill themselves... No matter how appropriate it might be. Just my take.

If that's true then they're going about it in the worst way. If they truly were about the culture war and political grift, they wouldn't mention it at all. Someone like James Rolfe is actually apolitical as he has, afaik, never even breached these types of topics. Even during the Ghostbusters 2016 non review, he never mentioned the ongoing online flame war. RLM on the other hand, lambasts and mocks others for doing so, while they still engage in it just in a smug South Park kind of way.

Jesus freaking christ, it was just a bad video, which in my opinion is yes bad and for the record is my matrix 4 video. Though again, I agree with the Matrix 4 video and disagree with this. Hopefully they will make up for it with a BOTW video, because woof that was bad.

Forget Baby Hitler, if you had a time machine would you go back in time and kill Baby George Lucas so you never had to deal with Star Wars discourse ever again?
For the record: I would kill baby George Soros and/or feed him to the death camp because -let's be real- that would have the least fucky effect on the timeline.

Because if you killed Hitler (as fun as that would be), no America as world's power with the MIC, no nuking Japan, possibly no Cold War, etc and etc. God only knows what weird shit would happen.

So the answer is to contribute to it? Ok, both sides bad, how many times does that drum need to be beat before you’re just another side in the war?

Nobody asked them for this video, they claim Star Wars is dead/not worth it, they didn’t bring any new insight, yet they still needed to chime in for the clicks & cash. Congrats, you’re in the army now.

Exactly. I’m so sick of the holy rollers who keep dipping into the culture war, only to quickly rush out and tell you how sick of it/above it they are. Ok, so shut the fuck up about it. There’s plenty of creators in the nerd space who leave it alone, and you can be another one. They want it both ways, and that makes them worse than the other two sides.

They need to get over it if that's the case.

So what? There's memes that are used from time to time. Big fucking whoop.

If enough people call them out, this catches on as a meme. They might move operations to somewhere like Seattle or Detroit to save face from the leftist Twitter crowd. At least Mike and Jack would want to move.
