Mike basically hit the nail on the head why I can't get into The Orville and Strange New Worlds.

People tell me they're good, but it's just annoying to me with all the jokes and quips. Orville not as much but still enough that it bothers me.

This is why I don't understand Orville fans bitching about the lack of jokes in season 3. That was easily my favorite aspect of that season. I can barely watch season 1 without inwardly cringing.

Funny that the actual comedy takes the Star Trek style more seriously than the "real" thing

My biggest issue with "The Orville" is how they speedrun the story and character arcs. It's like the writers expected the show to be cancelled at any moment—a genuine concern in this day and age—and wanted to squeeze in all the arcs they could.

Given how the network treated the show, I’m not surprised.

Kevin Can Fuck Himself sounds kinda interesting.

That’s not Mike, just your old man ears.
'Ohhhhhh...'

I tried watching the first episode and I don't get what Mike found so great. As individual parts the sitcom isn't funny and the drama isn't intriguing. The show is first and foremost entertainment. It isn't trying to make a meaningful statement on social issues nor a deep meta-commentary on sitcoms. It uses the parts of sitcoms and dramas to make a technically well done show without any heart. Judging from bits of an interview I read, that does not seem to change.

I don't think Mike understands what terminal illness is. He kept talking about how the characters would grow from season to season. I'm like, they should have all died at the end of the series.

I figured before it came out that Flanagan was going to phone it in and push most of the series off to other people. Like what he did with bly manor. But, it even came in below those expectations. It's the worst thing I've seen Flanagan have his name attached to.

I'm going to go with Mike laughing himself delirious when the kids started talking about their illnesses, and in his gleefulness hallucinated another show.

What's the odds that only Rich Evans likes Jack Packhard in real life? Only Rich seems to have chemistry with Jack. Like they are friends outside of work. Something about Jack feels off. As in, he is not playing a character like the rest of the Red Letter Media crew. I don't think Rich Evan is anything like a character in real life. But Jack gives me a Linkara vibe. Linkara stopped being funny once you realize he was never playing a character parodying comic book fans.

You can't just ambush a man with Katie Willert like that, dude. I'm going to be mourning the death of Cracked all afternoon now.

You mean celebrating, right?

Not that this is what Mike said, but from what they showed and the general concept, I would have bet money that the point was that trite feminist crap about "men's privilege makes them oblivious to the everyday suffering of the women in their lives" or some shit like that.

Usually when shows have "the current social message", they can't stop themselves from beating you over the head with it and going entirely off of Mike's summary that doesn't seem to be the case.

It actually made me think of that guy who uploaded clips of The Big Bang Theory without the laugh track to show how unfunny, awkward and downright uncomfortable that show is.

So did Mike lowkey do voice work in Hackfraud Media's: Star Wars; The Last Straw?
https://youtube.com/watch?v=9Ugp8F7KefEhttps://youtube.com/watch?v=yKT2LFtjI24
Because in the Fraud Awakens video, it just sounds like some guy doing a Plinkett impression, while the Last Straw sounds more like the real thing.

Or maybe my old man ears might be fucking up.
No, but HackFraudMedia has been making better Plinkett reviews than Plinkett.

I kinda want to back having him thrown down a well now.

I took Mike's advice and watched 1899. It was pretty good, and I don't care that it was canceled after one season. Nine episodes was good enough for that story.

On the contrary, I'd say that Linkara went from being decidedly un-funny to absolutely hilarious once it became clear that he was dead serious.

Jack doesn't have the same such luck. He's a garnish - inoffensive if there's not too much, delightful if there's just the barest little sprinkling, and insufferable if there's a lot going around.
