I've been feeling RLM's content hasn't been that great as of late, but this one was a refreshing surprise. I enjoyed the culmination of the Nukie tapes going back to Jay constantly joking about needing more for something pretty much every time he was on PreRec although I doubt the idea was this if there was one at all. I'm also glad the charities from the auction are actually real ones and not some BLM shit as always seems to be the case.

Since the whole VHS speculation shit seems to be fairly recent, and they've been getting Nukie tapes for the better part of a decade now, it's clear this wasn't the plan from the start. My guess is that it started as a joke, just getting a bunch of copies of a really bad movie with an odd name. Maybe they had some idea of what to do with them, or maybe they couldn't decide on anything in particular, but the tapes kept coming in. Then it became a running gag, both in terms of "how many copies of this terrible movie can we get?" and "how many copies will people send us until we finally watch it?"

Then this whole speculator market thing began to pick up, and they found an interesting way to tie their Nukie collection to it. That was probably one of their best VHS destructions yet, if not the best. And I'm glad the proceeds from this ridiculous auction are going to some good charities. Someone in the comments said that the best thing would be if the auction winner sent the tape back to them, and I wholeheartedly agree, even if that's highly unlikely.

Also, regardless of opinions on these grading services and whether they actually mean anything, I will give them credit for not getting duped by the fake tape, as well as not charging RLM for it. At least someone was paying attention there.

And seeing how the review itself was like 5 minutes out of a 30 minute video also shows how this was probably the best way to slot it in. Never watched Nukie but just those clips made sure I'd have 0 desire.

Very fun episode though and a surprisingly clever way of putting that meme to rest. I do wonder what they will do with the other copies they will keep receiving via mail.

This is definitely their best video in years, I'd already rewatched it twice. And the current bid is exactly 100 dollars more than the Back to the Future tape that started all of this

Aren't VHS going to stop working in a few years due to the magnetic tape failing? Having it sealed will probably buy a few more years, but those VHS are going to die.
