Sorry for being oblivious to Nu:Trek but what happened to the prime directive? If they ARE going to save the world from ICE and Trump '24?

Like these fucking writers care about that shit. I mean its not like they care about the broader philosophy of the federation.

I was just re-watching Rich and Mike's review of Discovery and Picard. I can't believe how initially positive Mike was to Discovery. Only Rich was like its meh, but its not Star Trek. It took until the end of Season 1 for Mike to be crushed. Season 2 then annihilated him.

He was already despondent by Picard, which was an utter train wreck. And while they sprinkle in lots of Star Trek Easter eggs, the writing of Season 2 is still shit.

Obviously, everyone is talking about the slap but I can't help but think Jay's referring to Max Landis as well.

Doesn't apply to different dimensions or whatever it is in Picard.
They constantly fucked with the mirror universe in Trek since TOS.

The constant memberberries makes it so much worse, these new shows are so bland and generic I can almost turn my brain off and convince myself its not star trek and then they have to throw in some cheap nostalgia bait to remind me where the corpse they're currently puppeteering came from. I think watching these shows is activly sapping mike's remaining life force.

Oh I agree. The recent "homage" to the Star Trek bus scene was terrible. It could have been okay in a better show. But that's all the show is running with; terrible homages and misery porn.

Too late for a simple court martial over the Prime, they all fall squarely now under the jurisdiction of The Department of Temporal Investigations.

Doesn't help their case that 2024 is already a sore subject for the DTI, and they collectively lack Sisko's charm to talk their way out of it all.

God, I love Deep Space Nine so much I could fuck it etc etc Where? etc etc Right there... etc etc

The Star Trek brand has been a weight on these shows in the same way mislabeled products are bad products regardless of actual quality. These shows might marginally be better if they weren't Star Trek.

Absolutely. S1 Picard is a YA series with an overpowered girl protagonist that somehow got Star Trek logos splashed on it at the script printers and nobody thought to double check before proceeding to film it. As a linear, somewhat tedious Not Made For Me show, it might have developed its own fanbase in the Old Enough For Their Own Buffy age range.

I don't know what the fuck Discovery is, some sort of high concept joke, apparently? Remember way back at the start when we speculated they were in the Mirror Universe and would break through into the proper one as a slow burn reveal? Hah.

I just watched the recent Picard review and the "darker, edgier" version of Q really grates. Sure he was a puckish trickster who went messing about the universe because he was bored, and at other times came off as cold and detached but there were the moments when he'd remind Picard and anyone else that he was something beyond time and space, and could do whatever he wanted to the Enterprise if he wanted to do it. You didn't need Angsty Emo Q yelping about wounds and sutures.

The idea of a modern writer being capable of writing a character that's fully-nuanced: sometimes subtle, sometimes overt; sometimes omnipotent, sometimes vulnerable; sometimes whimsical, sometimes deathly grave; sometimes passionate, sometimes detatched and cold; sometimes the essence of joie de vivre, sometimes weighed down by a galaxy's worth of Weltschmerz...

...it's as risible as it is unimaginable. John de Lancie's ability to effortlessly play such a capricious character is something I've admired since I was old enough to understand these things.

I think they're pretty normie about politics, ie they don't think about it all the time, and when they do, they usually think damn those political people are freakin weirdos

I mean I can't imagine Mike or Jay or Rich sperging the fuck out about something political, they're nerds who are still interested in classic nerd shit instead of transferring their nerdery to politics like so many nerds have
People are somehow forgetting that outside of here and Twitter 90% of people DON'T GIVE A SHIT. That's why they brought up the political sledgehammering in Picard- no one wants to see it in their damn shows.

People are also somehow forgetting that Mike and Jay did skits calling both Hillary and Trump criminals in 2016, made fun of the endless riots during the Summer of Love, made fun of how schizophrenic the responses to Covid were, and then are somehow now unhappy that they only called out what is happening on Picard instead of posting a video on Youtube calling out the Jews for cucking the goys and feminizing men into femboys.

Like holy shit, this is exact problem they were addressing.

E: They also talked about how some Trump supporting actor had his character killed off in Season 1 of Picard in a disgustingly out-of-place and brutal way. RLM is not some far-left faggot channel.

The only time Q was downright menacing was the TNG episode with the Nausicans. But they left it open ended at the end if it was really Q at all or just Picard having some kind of near death experience.

I'm curious why Mike called it a Trump rally? For the few seconds they showed it looked more like Pink Floyd The Wall or maybe Hate Week from 1984.

He called it a Trump rally because it was obvious that’s what the shitty writers were trying to make it a comparison to.
