Wrong. They may have pioneered a fanboy sentiment that convinced Disney into hiring J.J. Abrams for Star Wars ...They didn't pioneer anything.
Deadpool is pretty tame. If my memory serves, they made a few jokes about how the fox/marvel split made making the movie a giant pain in the ass and how they had to substitute out for d-tier x-men in the film, right? When it comes to purely meta elements, sure, matrix4 is nothing new (and it was a tired thing even when deadpool did it, tbh) - but the review doesn't leave me thinking they found the meta stuff in and of itself interesting. The Deadpool movies say hello, and you can't get any more mainstream than Deadpool. They did this shit half a decade ago.
When people go after them for shit like the boring christmas special or changes to their show formats that don't exactly work out, I mean, that's pretty legit. Or if they say something stupid on social media more than worthy of derision - though their relative quiet there is in part why it's a lot easier to make fun of a Lindsay Ellis than a Rich Evans. So what's the issue with mocking the RLM guys?
Yeah, neither did James Rolfe or Doug Walker. They didn't pioneer anything.

Yeah. Where did it call the audience a bunch of slobbering manchildren with plastic bobblehead addictions? And, literally, in the opening credits of the movie, they referred to the writers as "The Real Heroes" and the film producers as "Some Asshats," or something along those lines.
The comparison to Gremlins 2 comes from the fact that it both makes fun of the industry and pokes fun at consumerism - which m4 does, just very ineptly. The misconstruing is this: their comparing it to Gremlins 2 doesn't mean they're remotely suggesting M4 is on a similar level of quality. They call it thoroughly mediocre and bad several times throughout, but recommend it despite this (if you have the service already) because it was something fresh-ish for them. I personally find almost all meta-comedy to be really trite, but I have to admit I don't know of many big films that flip their audience the bird. And you're backtracking on your previous statements already. RLM *did* give it a soft recommendation because "why not, it's streaming" and even made the comparison to a fun movie like Gremlins 2

Making fun of the studios and having self-referential humor isn't anything new, yeah - the new is baking in scorn for your fans right into the movie.

The review itself does feel pretty slapdash and low-effort, but eh, it was the holidays.
Yes. I named Robocop, too. However:There are so many pieces of media that make fun of consumerism.
A breath of not-quite-fresh air to break a staid atmosphere for mike
You're naming stuff from a decade to decades ago. And even if BvS treads on its source material, and Snyder insists that Sucker Punch was actually just pretending to be a misogynistic fantasy to pwn the chuds, he didn't straight up have someone call you a retard for wanting more bullet time. M4 isn't the first to do much of anything, and it isn't remotely good (from the sounds of things) at anything it does - but it's still badly attempting things pretty uncommon in the cinemascape of the last few years. The most lame-dicked, childish critique of consumerism, consumers, and studios in recent memory also happens to be the only one in recent memory. And the studio never stopped to think it might be a really bad idea to publish.someone flipping the bird by intentionally tanking a cash-grab for jay.
Sucker Punch took place in a mental hospital for women, where they were being raped, abused, and murdered. The movie would give you these overtly indulgent action scenes with women wearing skimpy clothing, and then it would jump back to the "reality" of the movie, trying to make the audience feel like shit for enjoying the previous scene. It's pretty damn obvious when you watch the movie. I'm not saying the movie is good, but it's clear what it was trying to do. At least that movie didn't give up half way with what it was trying to do either.I'm going to stop after this because I can't come up with more ways to repeat myself

For all that, it gets a "eh, why not" alongside plenty of warnings that the film isn't actually that good. They're not calling it innovative or well-executed or good; they're saying it was different enough for them to have mildly enjoyed it. By all means, they have a twitter if you want to convince them that they shouldn't have found mild amusement from it.
tag me next time tigerThe biggest irony of this thread is that the RLM guys would probably make fun of/actively hate on the guys defending them with their names/faces in their profiles.
Also FYI; invoking "This is Kiwifarms, we make fun of autism" when someone writes some paragraphs about how they don't like your friend simulators latest bad movie review is pretty dumb, considering this whole site is built upon threads chronicling in detail what internet/content creator retards are doing.

Look man, if you want to say it's literally impossible for Mike to find the movie to be different from everything else recently released and it's literally impossible for Jay to find WB shooting their money down a flaming toilet entertaining, by all means. It's a retarded take. You want to say their content's getting lazier and they're putting in less effort? I'm not gonna take issue there.
I'm the guy that, eons ago, called the brave and unassailable culture warriors whining about Jim's retarded twitter takes a bunch of oversensitive children while at the same time pointing out that Jim is uncharismatic, unfunny, and doesn't add anything to the panels he's appeared on. It ain't hard to split criticism from kvetch.
I routinely laugh at people a-logging uninteresting and unremarkable autists in detail on this site because the appeal of half of the threads anymore is knowing that the guy writing a thesis about some random fat furry is a deadbeat dad who creeps on users with female avatars. The "curators" are just as much the content, doubly so because they think their hairless incest chastity porn secrets are safe. or are we gonna say the saga of spooky bones is a very serious affair you can't make fun of now
I dunno if you noticed, but there's a notifications button. You seem to have given me a lot of them. It's rather just courteous to not come off as a passive-aggressive bitch on a forums board where the worst someone can do is harm your precious karma. But then, I used to trawl the A&N trenches, so I know that number is very, very important to a lot of people. There's no need to tag you when you're fanatic enough to check this thread hourly.
And it's nice to see you use the site to laugh at deadbeat dads who creep on females, but can't understand how some of us might laugh at friendless weirdos who get bootytickled when someone says Jay and the Fatman have a bad take.
Weren't you enthralled by 8 minutes of a woman eating a pie? IT TOOK 8 MINUTES TO EAT AND BOYHOOD TOOK 12 YEARS TO MAKE, BOTH GREAT MOVIES.Took their recommendation once and watched A Ghost Story.
Will never do it again.
Watching sad women eat gets me going.Weren't you enthralled by 8 minutes of a woman eating a pie? IT TOOK 8 MINUTES TO EAT AND BOYHOOD TOOK 12 YEARS TO MAKE, BOTH GREAT MOVIES.
And it’s just as dumb having people get that angry or MATI because the internet movie review didn’t hate on the movie enough. Just hating on something doesn’t immediately put you in the right in here. The biggest irony of this thread is that the RLM guys would probably make fun of/actively hate on the guys defending them with their names/faces in their profiles.
