Neat, thanks for the link. They did go back and upload most of their videos to Youtube, but some remain missing. In particular, I've never found a reason why they didn't upload the original HitB #46 to Youtube, where they reviewed Warm Bodies and "reviewed" Movie 43. Instead, they only uploaded the Movie 43 segment and never bothered with the full video. I did a search on Jay's Twitter, and the only mention is from 2016 where someone was asking about it and the Baby's Day Out review, to which he replied, "We'll get around to Warm Bodies eventually I'm sure."

Maybe that review is the Boyhood of HitB. It'll take twelve years to upload!

I have conflicted feelings on whether I should check out Midnight Mass or not.

Lots of friends I have IRL (whose opinions I trust) completely trashed it and said that they could easily picture me specifically hating it with a burning passion.

And yet ... The things I've read about the show intrigue me.

Give it a shot then. Its shorter than Mike Flannagan's other two netflix series, coming around at 7 episodes instead of 9-10. I mostly liked it, it has some very good character stuff and it has some overly long and cringy character stuff, last 2 episodes were also pretty bad. By episode 2 you should know if youre going to enjoy it or not.

I love the universe but don't know the nitty gritty details because I'm only on the Dune spectrum, not a full-blown autist so I can't speak to the shield stuff. I agree with what you're saying regarding uniforms/costumes and that the desaturated approach muted a lot of the outfits to the extent that they're very similar in tone to each other, leading to further confusion. I think the Sardaukar at least stood out because of their (brighter) white uniforms.

EDIT: in the book I think the Sards are disguised as Harkonnen soldiers

Personally I was never confused the entire time and had no trouble following who was who and what was going on but I also know the story already but one of our friends who knew nothing about it said he had no trouble following it either so 🤷‍♂️

I'm just talking about what's in the movie. Rewatch some of Duncan's fight scenes. Sometimes, he will make a cut using his entire arm and we see the red shield effect instead of the blue. It's actually a case where correct or less post would have helped out. The movie itself is inconsistent about shield usage because the choreography happens so fast that the director and editor didn't realize it until it was too late to fix it.

Man, I am going to need to look through these.

On the topic of that video, though... it honestly feels weird to see Mike in outside locations. It's been like 5 years since any of their videos involved them leaving the studio set, it feels unnatural to see him in a realistic location. It's like your fish left it's bowl and is now just walking around the house. I don't know why I got this feeling so strongly, maybe I am going crazy.

Its kind of like seeing cartoon characters walk around in the real world in Roger Rabbit. Its cool...but kind of strange too.

I wound up watching the entire thing.

I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I have not seen Spooky Times at Hill House, so I can't really give you a comparison there - Mike and Jay say Midnight Mass is a lot better, for what that's worth? HOWEVER, "family-focused melodrama" is certainly one way of describing Midnight Mass. There's a lot of talking (lots and lots of talking), to the point where it sometimes feels more like watching a play than watching a show (let alone a spooky show). The writing was excellent (Chekhov's Gun, Knife, Cat, Throwaway Line, and Johnny Knoxville), and I liked the talkie bits, as they genuinely made me care about the characters, and there were even a couple scenes where I teared up like a faggot. Honestly, I came away from Midnight Mass wishing there had been MORE monologues and fewer scary bits. But I won't lie, you might find it tedious.

My advice would be to give the first episode a chance. It's not the best episode, not by a long shot, but it sets up many of the themes, and it's a good representation of the show's spooky-to-monologue ratio. If you hate it, you'll probably hate the rest. If you're OK with it, you'll probably enjoy the rest. And if you're on the fence, give Episode 2 a chance before you decide.

I don't think I've seen him wear a mask inside during any of the post-covid episodes, though. Even though Mike, Jay, and Rich are not part of his household, and Milwaukee Tweet Man clearly instructs him to do so.

Pretty reckless, if you ask me. Why does he want Mike, Jay, and Rich to die??

Don't worry. Once Mike hears what he's saying he'll put him in a special airtight room he has in his house. He's even already got a camera system set up for the guy!
