I'm glad Colin was smuggled across the border, just keep that commie leaf Jim over there from now on.

Oh no... I know about Jack and Josh's cuckoldry, but is Jim also in the soy trap? Apperentley if your name starts with J you're a RLM problem... which bodes poorly for the man who's name is literally Jay. Hopefully he's too invested in sicko porn movies to join the cult...!

One thing that bothered me was that Colin never mentioned that the inner monologues were a faithful carryover from the books, which have heavy amounts of inner dialogue.
Also, Jay seemed to think that Sardaukar were Harkonnen soldiers, which they aren't, and Colin didn't correct. Colin probably hasn't read the book in years, I'd guess.
They also missed the couple of references to the Lynch Dune. The Harkonnen guards in Hazmat suits looked like Lynch's Sardaukar, Duncan Idaho avoided a slow-moving projectile that killed his Lynchian counterpart, and briefly there is a musical reference to Lynch's soundtrack at one point.

Jim's probably the worst of the three, in that regard, tbh.

To be fair, it's pretty confusing if you aren't already familiar with the world. And the fact that the Sardines were attacking simultaneously as the Harks might be easily mixed up in the average viewer's mind despite plenty of on-screen evidence to show otherwise.

December Updates

Happy December everyone! We have pretty much our whole month planned out. While Colin was in town, we shot a Best of the Worst spotlight episode so that's being edited now. Jay and Josh are also planning a re:View soon for the Christmas classic that everyone loves and watches every season...Blood Beat, a no budget movie shot in rural Wisconsin. It's a weird little movie that should probably be on Best of the Worst instead of re:View, but it's less funny in its weirdness and more just kind of fascinating. Plus there will be our usual Christmas episode of Best of the Worst and a Half in the Bag for the new Matrix movie. That's the plan for now anyway! Ho ho ho

Finally. I was hoping since Vinegar Syndrome released Blood Beat years back that RLM would do something with it.

Continuing to cross my fingers that doing a Half in the Bag for the new Matrix movie jolts Mike's memory that he once teased a Plinkett review on the sequels...

What is this Midnight Mass Netflix shit they're so in love with? Mike actually says it's the best thing he's ever seen, while Jay practically splooges on camera. I can't imagine anything on Netflix is worth watching.

Netflix has a lot of good content.
Mainly, it's the stuff that you need to actively look for, stuff that doesn't have a marketing budget.
As for this... the director has a (mostly) good track record, even his bad movies and shows are at least ambitious failures, not corporate products.
This new show might be worth checking out.

I haven't seen it but I'm sceptical because the same people raving about it are the same ones who raved about the Spooky Times at Hill House that I found to be a hyper tedious and mostly boring family-focused melodrama with a couple of very good scenes mixed in here and there. I know some people who said Midnight Mass was more of the same so I haven't been dying to watch it but if you guys endorse it I'll give it a shot.

I watched the first four episodes and really liked them, but then shit got in the way and I never finished it. I plan to at some point, it was really good if a little bit slow, but also I don't feel the urge to watch it again right away. It's kind of ~prestige television~

I don't know. Apparently it's filled with tedious "theatrical" monologues about the evils of religion and you'd have to be a low-IQ chud to dislike that. according to Mike and Gay

I hope we never see Jim again as well, fucking TDS tard to the Nth degree, judging by his Twitter.

It sounds like a relic of the fedora tipping mindset from the 2000s, literally nothing could be more dated and less interesting in today's world.

Honestly, watching the clips they used for comparison made me more interested in the Lynch movie over the new one.

Maybe I should give it a rewatch.
I do like how opulent some of the set designs are as opposed to the minimalist approach of the remake.

Would anyone happen to have a copy of that The United States of NOOOOOO video where Mike is explaining how YTMND works? RLM seems to have taken it down and I can't find it anywhere.

The more I think about this movie, the less impressed I get with it. I know the movie does state that the Harkonnens and the Emperor's men are different, but the movie doesn't show that all that well. Every villain is a bald, ugly guy, which seems like Marvel method shorthand for villain. In fact, the desaturated colors work for anything from Arakis, but there isn't much contrast when the foreigners aren't all that elaborately dressed either. You'd think military dress uniforms would look like they did in the 19th century or the Emperor's men would have elaborate physical shields with emblems during the full scale battle, but no. In a world where the favored primary weapon is the short sword, no one thinks to carry a shield, a sword breaker, a sai, or any other weapon that can be used to counter it. That's not even getting into the fact that the shield rules themselves are inconsistent in this movie. If full arm cuts can't penetrate it, then I don't want to see Duncan being able to cut through one with a full arm swing.
