I'm excited to see a bunch of mongoloids genuinely upset that 40 year old who said they weren't going to like a reference-filled kids movie didn't end up enjoying the reference filled kids movie.

I was gonna say, I didn’t expect them to like it too much. It’s more of a family comedy this time around, and they already made fun of the idea of thinking the movies deserved reverence and whatnot.

I don’t think it’s a bad film, but it’s definitely aimed at a slightly different audience.

It still seems like such a weird direction to go in.

I always imagined a new Ghostbusters movie would be a passing of the torch thing, but not to a bunch of fucking 13 year olds.

Somebody like Paul Rudd is who I would imagine would be a new Ghostbuster, but he's pretty much playing the equivalent of Lewis in this.

I was surprised that Jay seemed the most annoyed of the three. Rich and Mike seem to have come to terms with the state of things, and I think Mike even said he's reached the acceptance stage.

Also nice to hear them look back on their TFA review and realise that a lot of what they praised it for is currently killing quality film making, especially sequels/reboots.

Loved the Kevin Smith and other social-mediatards segment.

What is the source of that animated Rich Evans?

These guys are so incredibly, bitterly cynical lmao.

I'm not surprised but I was definitely hoping they wouldn't be this negative about it, especially in the case of Mike, I mean damn.

It's simply not a movie for cynics, it's not a cynical movie, some of their criticisms are valid but some of is just them being bitter cynics, a glass half full or half empty thing.

The movie is made for hardcore Ghostbusters fans, if Ghostbusters is not just a movie you like, but something that really means something to you on a deeper level, this movie is made for you and the movie works, these guys don't really seem to get that mentality or at least not when it comes to Ghostbusters, perhaps if someone simply told Mike "some people like Ghostbusters as much as you like Star Trek" he would go "ohhhhh"

That said I laughed like a lunatic as Mike read Tweets over slow motion footage of Ray's O face, that is why I love these guys, even when I disagree I can still respect them and these whole situation does highlight a bigger issue going on with society today, people are so big on nostalgia and they're so big on pop culture because society in the 21st century is broken at a fundamental level, we've lost something that was still around in the 1980s, Mike's metaphor of trying to make a broken shell into an egg is actually pretty thought provoking.

But it does make me frustrated and a little angry because I feel like these guys live in a bit of a bubble, I don't think they realize just how bleak the modern situation really is, I mean we're like by the day on the verge of a fucking race war or something, for years we've had communists trampling all over our culture in some of bizarre Maoist revolution and here's a movie treating an old property with respect, that alone wins a lot of favor from me.

I think the movie's a little deeper than they realize too, this was something I picked up on, stuff like the alcoholic mom passed out at the table, the kids watching the movies in class with no emotion, Jason Reitman is a smart guy, he knows exactly what he's doing, he's offering up pure nostalgia so we can escape our nightmare reality for a little bit.

I mean their butthurt over the fact that a scene takes place in a Wal-Mart is pretty dumb (they are right that no Wal-Mart is that clean though)

You can nitpick the movie but it's heart was in the right place, I just don't think they appreciate it enough considering what a slap in the face the 2016 movie and how rare it is in this climate for there to be any sort of "apology" for Woke bullshit.

Just wish they had lightened up a bit.

The people who think this movie was "sincere" and "had heart" are being fooled.

If Sony actually felt that way, then this is the Ghostbusters movie that would have come out in 2016. This is a desperate Hail Mary to make something that addresses fan complaints from the movie they actually wanted to make but the fans hated, to try and get Ghostbusters fanboys back on the team so they can keep pumping out more Ghostbusters shit.

Pretty much mirrors my thoughts. Any sincerity in wanting to make a film that honours the originals is purely driven by the 2016 disaster, and by the sound of it they probably over corrected.

The same people who okayed this movie are the same people cursing all the filthy neckbeards who trashed the last movie.

Sony may have funded the movie, but Jason Reitman is who actually made the movie.

Sony did try to cash in with the remake, but because it failed Jason Reitman was able to have the chance to do what he wanted and because he's a filmmaker with actual talent (Oscar nominated back when that still meant something) and for whom Ghostbusters actually means something, his literal dad directed the first two movies, he was on the set as a kid and actually acted in the second movie, if anyone would have actually cared about this ip it'd be him.

He was sincere in making a nostalgic homage to Ghostbusters and Harold Ramis, like I said it's not a cynical movie, so if you are a cynical person, it's not going to work for you, that's fine, doesn't make it objectively bad though.

The fact that it didn't take a cynical approach though is one of the things I like about it, I honestly think it's a small miracle this movie exists and I'm glad it does.

The movie definitely has some flaws, for example they're totally right that the brother character is a bit bland and could have been a deeper character sure, but I think one's overall response to the movie is whether one can still lose themselves in that childhood fantasy of ghost hunting, I honestly feel bad for the RLM guys that they're not able to do that, but I also understand what's made them that way, which is why I can sympathize, I'm not mad, just disappointed.

I hate to say that this is just a case of them simply not getting it, but well... they just don't get it.

And I don't think BIll Murray gives a fuck at all about this movie.

He probably only agreed to be in it because he feels guilty about falling out with Harold Ramis for so long.

What would happen if Jason Reitman gave the Afterlife treatment to Animal House?

Probably the case, from what I understand isn't Bill Murray one of the main reasons a Ghostbusters 3 with all 4 of the original dudes never happened?

And from what I understand weren't they all set to make a third movie in the early 2010s, but Bill simply didn't want to and then Harold Ramis died?

I definitely have mixed thoughts on Bill as a person, I don't really get what his deal is, but at least he didn't finally agree to suit up again.

The new Ghostbusters is made for the fans of the original in the same way 2016 Ghostbusters was made for women and Black Panther was made for niggers. It feels more like soulless pandering, and ticking of the points from the “what we think people in this demographic like” list rather than a work of passion and a movie someone wanted to make.

Basically, they said all the things that apply to TFA, but cynically. Which makes me wonder if RLM is quietly backtracking on their ST coverage.
lel watch the video, one of the first things they say is "hindsight is 20-20", and they think the success of TFA was essentially giving a green light to Hollywood that movies based mostly off of "Remember ____?!".
