I find it amusing that Mike watched a handful of Orville episodes and not only refused to watch anymore since he essentially considered it Dollar Store TNG, but then he proceeded to watch Discovery Season 2, all of Picard, and Lower Decks, only one of those (or one and a third I guess?) he actually liked and knowing that this would likely be the case going in.
Reminds me of learning that Linkara said something similar about why he wont get into Invincible and The Orville. He said that despite people claiming that these franchises were doing things better than the franchises they are homaging he'd rather stick to the originals. "If I want to watch Star Trek, I'll watch Star Trek dammit!"

Says that but refuses to watch Super Sentai to have context of his power ranger shit...

ure really surprise the guy whose pitch for Gremlins 3 was Trump meets the Gremlins who are internet Trolls on Twitter, actually doesnt have good ideas for movies? Mike knows one thing very well: script structure. His original ideas, even back in the Plinkett days, were hacky dogshit. Remember his idea for what the clones in the clone wars shouldve been?
Fact of the matter is that in regards to all the Star Trek content we've had for over a decade, Lower Decks was an island of mediocrity in an ocean of shit.

Saying that Lower Decks is kinda good every now and again is faint praise but is sadly the most praise I've given any Star Trek shit in pretty much a generation.

Star Trek bros are down bad fr fr
I remember seeing a video essay talking about how that show is a love letter to Star Trek. I'm no star trek guy but the first episode is about how authority figures are dumb and shouldnt be listened to

STAR TREK

Over the years since Abrams Trek first blighted the landscape, I've come to the conclusion that Star Trek is a 20th century phenomenon and artifact that really doesn't work in the 21st century. It's not really a science fiction program anymore; it's simply its own mythology and most of it is incredibly dated. There might be a way to revive it and make it interesting again, but the people currently in control of it, and who will be in control of it for the foreseeable future, have repeatedly demonstrated they have no idea how to do that and almost certainly don't care.

Trek Bros, Mike most definitely included, would be better off if they accepted that. There will be no good new Star Trek.
I've been thinking this too about a lot of 20th century geek obsessions. It's a bit like trying to bring back the 40s idea of an alien unironically: with the silver saucers and little green men. A lot of this stuff has just stuck around due to marketing. Superheroes havent evolved since the 60s, Star Wars is inherently 70s in its influences and morality, Star Trek is inherently 60s in its worldbuilding. Doctor Who ironically might be the most timeless because being a time travel show the kitschy sets and aliens are excused somewhat by not having a floating timeline and instead being literally started in the 1963 timeline wise

It reminds me of a documentary I watched about aliens, where the teacher talked to her students about various interpretations of aliens. That in one decade they were benevolent, then the next they were nasty. The students thought the good alien belief was naive. I feel that's why Star Trek couldnt work in the 21st century

Yeah, the "Mike re-writes the movie" segments of recent RLM have almost always been the worst parts of those episodes. The boys aren't bad at talking about what works and what doesn't, cinematically, but they're really bad at talking about what would make a better plot than what we see on screen.

It's to their credit that Rich and Jay only just kind of go along with Mike when he starts doing this, and don't start doing it themselves.

It would be even more to their credit to say, "That stinks!" but I guess that scenario requires one of them to care.

Friends! We're having a special guest this week! Don't think that it's Mack because he was just in town. It's not him, he's headed back on the road doing more Home Alone Tour shows.

But was doing some major cleaning and tape arranging and it's kind of amazing the impact the original Terminator had on knock off movies... dear god. And these are just the tip of the iceberg!

Of these films on display alone, I have to say I watched Automatic (1995) some years ago and even for an obvious low-budget film it was somewhat entertaining. John Glover's in it, if that interests anybody.

As for Cyborg 2, it has Jack Palance really Palance-ing it up.

Project Shadowchaser and the sequel are surprisingly fun DTV action flicks.

Friends! I think Jay mentioned our epic shoot fest with our special guest. We currently have FIVE videos in post now. Make it six if you include our very slow progress on mounting the helm control from the Defiant from DS9. I have a 4'x6' light up LED frame to back light it, but have yet to get it in there properly, etc... too much going on!!!!!! But our guest was hilarious and there's some good stuff coming up. He made a real big impression on us and these will be some soon to be classic best of the worsts.

Should I bother hoping this guy isn't a giant faggot, sex pest, and/or wife-homicider like the rest of them feel the need to be?
Please let it be Kyle Gallner.

They didn't say if it's a new guest or not specifically did they? I really hope it isn't Patton Oswald again.
