Is this what jumping the shark looks like?

This was... less bad than I expected. At least it wasn't Patton again.

I kind of feel, that at this point, when Chris gets out of jail, they should have him on in a guest role. They've now had a wife killer, a pedophile, a rapist and a fat faggot guest star, a motherfucker would really bring it meta full circle.

So have Chris Chan be like a Crazy Fat Ethel?

Other than the cringey Rick & Morty bit I really enjoyed that episode. I've always been of the mind Half in the Bag suffered from putting less and less focus on the ridiculous story stuff and it's nice to see them put some effort into actual production stuff again. Doubt we'll ever get into the real high effort levels of the golden age with entirely new sets and extended film-making fun, but getting something like this once or twice a year would suffice.

RIP Pinkett Balloon House Arc

Why are they so culturally out of touch?

Women being obsessed with serial killers, etc. has been a meme for well-over a decade, at this point its a pretty common trope that everyone knows but Jay apparently just found out about it at some point while researching Netflix's recent LGBTQ Dahmer show.

In the review for 'Barbarian', Mike expressed his concern that the hype around the film was because it would feature a woman being violently tortured for an hour. I can't imagine a movie in current year + 3 being praised for featuring something like that, if anything the hype around the movie made me wonder if the 'all men are rapists' shit would be too annoying. Now, I liked the movie for the most part and I'm not complaining about those elements I just don't know what year Mike is living in.

I feel like there are other examples of this, but these are just the ones that come to mind as they are recent. Still, anytime I check in on a new Half in the Bag it feels like I'm listening to two guys who were recently thawed out after being cryogenically frozen for twenty years.

They're 40-something Gen X'ers. This is just the way we are.

TBF, I think they have more charm than old-timey cop in Space Cop, but these days, I just find their subject matter to not be all that interesting to listen to. I just have no interest in modern indie films.

Agreed. Modern indie films are either "realist" dramas [codeword: depressing shit about family relationships] or dumb, too weird and self-aware to be funny tripe. No interest in it at all anymore. Too many classic films to watch and books to read as is, and I can't be sold on the recommendation of "woman fucks a car."

If there's one genre that should come back, it's comedy. The problem is, as Jayus Ex Mikena implies, 80s comedies like Night Court can't be made today for profoundly stupid reasons. Instead, we get Rick & Morty. Literally, in this case.

I think comedies will come back. It's just a matter of when. Something something the pendulum will swing the other way.
