I wonder if they’ll bother reviewing the new Top Gun, after their Ghostbusters and Matrix reviews they’d either call it a decent movie or a blatant disgusting nostalgia fest. I liked it, but judging by their past opinions i’d be interested to know what they thought.
Top Gun might be possible, since it's a jarring example of a "nostalgia grab" movie actually improving on its source material by magnitudes.

The opinions I've heard are that it has a little more craft than just blatant nostalgia. I remember them somewhere saying that they liked Cruise for actually going out of his way to perform stunts that weren't just real but also interesting in scope, placement and effect. What in a normal production would be a shot of a guy climbing into a helicopter becomes a highly engaging thrill-ride in the Mission Impossible films.

They called him a weird dude but a good actor, I believe.

I watched Windfall based on their recommendation and boy does that movie fall flat on it's face at the end. I'm willing to give Jay the benefit of the doubt because he forgot he even saw the movie. The more I think about the ending the more annoyed I get.
I forgot it existed until they brought it up myself, I kind of expected an asspull ending based on the tone of the film. Still thought it was enjoyable for what it's worth.

I expected the same thing, especially cause of Mike's non-spoiler spoiler that it had a "shocking ending". I didn't even hate the idea of the ending. they just didn't sufficiently build to it.
The intent seemed to be that the audience was supposed to sympathize with the wife and her actions at the end. I can't buy her motivation for killing the husband though. They wanted you to know the husband was an asshole, especially with the very on the nose "you know how hard it is to be a rich white guy" line. Nothing he did was irredeemable though, he was a dick, but not one that deserved to be murdered. He was a bit controlling but they never showed that she was in any way trapped in the marriage by him. It seemed more like she just never talked to him about her issues. Her position was due to her actions. The birth control part is what cemented it for me though. I could be sympathetic if it was a case where she loved him so much but didn't want to lose him over her desire not to have children so she kept it secret, but clearly she didn't want to have his kid or be with him. She was just with him for the money and status so she is a shitty person as well. That too could have worked as the ending but her character arc throughout the movie didn't show her to be that kind of person.

At this point, I really have no idea what they'll review next. One moment they seem to be done with capeshit, then they review Doctor Strange 2 and talked about seeing the last few Spider-Man movies. But they still won't watch The Batman? They seemed "done" with Star Trek after season 1 of Picard, but they went back for season 2. Sometimes they do big movies you'd expect them to talk about, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they do small movies you'd expect them to talk about, sometimes they don't. It's like a roll of the die. I guess you can only bet on them talking about a movie if it's "weird".

They should do a Plinkett review of Space Cop.

Dr Strange 2 was kinda a given since it was Sam Rami, and they watched the latest Spiderman just in case they needed the context. I think if they like a particular director, they may watch a capeshit or two.

I don’t think they will go back to Star Trek though. Picard S2 seems to have literally killed it for them.

Rich invoking "I have to watch this because it's my job," his little nerd heart is breaking.

Jay being the normie showing it's just bad is good for showing how broken Picard made Mike and Rich.

Be easy on Mike and Rich they're suffering heavily from Post Picard Stress Disorder (PPSD) with Symptoms that may include:
  • Coughing
  • Bleeding
  • Severe alcoholism
  • Mental breakdowns
  • Schizophrenia
  • Questionable taste in Media for extended periods of time
  • Cosplaying Touhou characters

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly began seething and crying out in anger. I fear RLM released a video shitting on the PT again while praising a Disney production.
