I hadn't heard anything about either film, so it was nice to get something a little different.

The Assistant strikes me as something that would have worked better as a short film, but stretching it out for an hour and a half is just too much with that slow pace and mundane tone.

The Wrong Missy...wow. That looks awful, lol.

Didn't see it or the trailer, but the guys state the trailer was incredibly deceptive and anyone who watched the film because they wanted to see the film being advertised would be disappointed and pissed off.

I wouldn't call Breaking Bad the whimsical tale of an older man changing his career, and the new friends he meets along the way. But I am not mentally challenged, nor do I work in Hollywood. But I repeat myself.

Omg guys, I JUST realized Mike and Jay are subtlety endorsing President Trump by giving unanimous approval to The Apprentice
I just realized Mike and Jay are subtly endorsing white supremacy by making their last video about movies rather than just a black screen that says BLACK LIVES MATTER for 40 minutes

I know I'm late to the Best RLM party, but I wanted to give a shout out to the Prometheus and Covenant videos where Mike and then Mike and Jay just stiffly ask logical questions about the plots of both movies. I've probably seen both of those a dozen times at least, and I've never even seen the movies themselves.

Edit: Also I rewatch the Nerd Crew pretty regularly, and find that it can be a good way to introduce people to RLM's brand of sarcastic humor.

I have to note the comment about people like Opera and Meryl Streep not knowing about Harvey Weinstein is absolutely ridiculous (9:35), if anything the people in the bottom probably knew the least. Fucking Seth MacFarlane called out the guy years before the whole thing blew up.
Anyways I'm not sure how you can make the subject matter a horror or drama unless you decide to portray the actions as 100% rape rather than the quid pro quo it likely was.

They definitely knew and didn't care. They are and were too high to in the industry not to have heard a lot about it.

Just like everyone in Hollywood knew Roman Polanski drugged and ass-raped a 13-year-old and to this day handwave it away like it's not a big deal because he makes great films. Hollywood is amoral at best and is essentially lying to you when it wags its finger at the audience.

Exactly why I probably won't even give this film a chance despite loving the main star. It comes across, even in this sparse footage, as hugely self-indulgent of Hollywood (even in an indie movie) to moralize and hand-wring over the horror of power-abusing assholes when every one of them made the decision every single day to work in an industry where they knew it happened and not to speak up about it. And when a ton of the actresses working today decided to suck off producers instead of sucking it up, getting an unglamorous, normal job like the rest of us, and deciding not to compromise their own morals.

Hollywood will always have gatekeepers who abuse their power, and it will always have whores who exchange sex for some of that power. And, worst of all, they'll all play the victim when this is occasionally exposed.

There's a scene in The Godfather (novel only, although there is a less graphic version of it in a deleted scene from the film, maybe restored in some cuts) where, while he's making the visit to Hollywood that ends with a horse's head in Jack Woltz's bed, Tom Hagen sees a beautiful young girl and her mother sitting outside the producer's office. He sees her emerge a while later with her makeup running, clothes disheveled, very obviously having been raped. While the scene was intended to show that even the murderous Corleone family was disgusted by Hollywood's depravity, rumor has it that it was based on an actual incident. While I'm not sure who the producer was supposed to be, the theory is that the little girl was Elizabeth Taylor.

This shit has been going on for decades, probably a century, and every fucking shitbag in Hollywood knows it.

That Prometheus is how I found them. I thought at the time: "who are these mechanics? Why are they filming in piece of shit house?"

I would bet real money it happened back in the days of greek opera.

Even from a logical standpoint - imagine trying to be a completely ethical producer. You have a lot of hot, nubile young women parading past you, but you can only cast one. Bring in enough to try out, and the odds of one of those girls literally throwing themselves at you for the part (even if you insist against it) approaches 1. Then repeat this day after day after day, and you know even the most strongwilled man is eventually going to encounter a tight little piece that is exactly his kind of sexy and he won't be able to say no.

After that, it will be easier and easier until finally, you can't even make the finals without taking a ride on the couch.

People will do all kinds of unsavory things for normal drugs. Fame is a hell of a drug that plays even stronger on the human psyche.

Oh, sure, it goes back to the early days of theatre. Just look at which cultures considered actors a step above (or a step below!) prostitutes, and you can probably figure out which eras were the worst. (The can-can dancers in 19th century Paris, for instance, frequently went onstage with no underwear, advertising their services were on offer if you wanted them.)

I shudder to think of what went on during the days of Elizabethan theatre, when women weren't allowed on stage and all the female parts were played by young boys.

Classical Japanede theatre, Noh and Kabuki, doesn't use women, cause they would usually work as prostitutes and use their fame as actresses to get premium prices. They were ousted and replaced by a purely male group of actors (that would then continue to sell their bodies, but somehow this wasn't a big deal so I dunno). In case of Kabuki, it's especially weird, cause it was invented by a woman.

People who act in a theatre would also often travel the roads, so there's some gypsy-prejudice at play, too.

Anyway, whoever exchanges hankypanky for a shot at becoming an actress, cause living a regular life is just not an option, doesn't really deserve my respect or my pity when this shit comes to light. We should go back to treat actors and actresses as lowlife anyway, given how they nowadays have such uppity attitudes, trying to lecture regular people on matters like sexual misconduct (unquestionably from a very experienced perspective) or race matters.

I have a buddy who's got some high level connections in Hollywood (and he himself was in the business long enough to get hit on by Kevin Spacey years and years before he was exposed) who is adamant that every woman raped by Cosby knew exactly what they were getting into. "You're going to go in for a 'meeting' with him, he's going to offer you a drink, you're going to be a little woozy. It's what he likes. He's not going to be violent, but he is going to fuck you. If you want this job, you'll do it. If not, well, have fun on the bus back to Nebraska."

It doesn't excuse him, or the filthy nature of the business, but it does make things a hell of a lot more complicated. If you believe it, of course.

I enjoy going to Alamo Drafthouses whenever I find myself in Texas. They do a lot of specialty showings and their food menu is really good.

I don't really care if they die though. They aren't as 'tough on noise' as they advertise to be.

I could see them doing that as a joke, but they've already had two strikes against them for their Transformers reviews so I doubt they'd want to risk it

It's still all just a big joke to them.

I wonder if there was even a danger to saying no and exiting the room. While I can see a connection between Hollywood producer and organized crime, actually killing a person for saying no is far more trouble than its worth, and I wouldn't doubt that every celebrity has dozens of crazies threatening rape lawsuits regardless if they are guilty or not, since Hollywood isn't a place for well-adjusted individuals. I also doubt that such an action would have sunk an actresses career considering there are (admittedly few) studios that are in competetion that wouldn't have said no for an actress with the ability/looks. If anything it's probably limited to only actresses who want to kickstart their career without working from the bottom-up.

You're seriously underestimating the glut of good looking young women who are desperate to be famous. Where do you think e-thots came from? That's the whole reason this rotten system persists: there's always another hopeful starlet waiting in the wings, and if you're not willing to do what Harvey wants, well, there's a line of ten girls ready to jump at the chance.

Think of the young actresses over the years who had a breakout role -- or even won an Oscar, like Mira Sorvino or Mairsa Tomei -- who immediately vanished from the movie theatre. In many cases, that happened because they weren't willing to get on their knees, and so their opportunities disappeared. Even an Oscar wasn't enough, and in Mira Sorvino's case, neither was having a father who was significant (if not a major star) in the industry.
