I don't think Dutch is a racist or a sexist or any other type of -ist, he's just a garden variety Machiavellian psychopath who surrounds himself with people that build him up and make him look somewhat competent by comparison.

As for the next Red Dead, idk. Red Dead is a series I care about more, story wise, than I have ever cared about GTA. I hope they don't fuck it up, but it's Rockstar, so that's always in the offering. Personally I really liked the range of environments RDR2 had. I would have enjoyed some more Mexico gameplay and let's be honest, there's no damn reason at all they couldn't have included it. But including the snowy mountain ranges in ambarino, the grassy plains, the green hills and the swamps was a huge + in my book because it represented more of what "the West" was. The West didn't begin and end in dusty desert towns, that was just one aspect of it. The "West" was really "the Frontier" which for quite a while meant "anywhere west of the Mississippi river." The added environments made hunting and activities not directly related to gunfighting a lot more fun, and tbh riding around Roanoke Ridge at night in the fog with the inbred Murphree crew running around provides better horror game ambiance than a lot of dedicated horror games.

I think it is time to move to a new narrative story. I've seen some talk about continuing the series with Jack, but imo Jack was never a strong character and I specifically kept a pre-epilogue save in RDR because I hated playing as Jack so much, admittedly that was largely because the voice of the actor grated on my ears like steel wool. And by that time, it would be heading into the 1900s, not really prime timeline for a game set in the "Old West". This is one aspect I'm concerned Rockstar will fuck it up on, by making it too "modernized" to appeal to the type of players who want automatic weapons etc.

nu-Rockstar probably doesn't have the guts to do one set in the West around the time of the Civil War when the racial tension amped the craziness up in some of the territories and states significantly but I think that could add a new story aspect to have the war raging in the background, maybe play some outlaw/group that's trying to capitalize on the chaos.

What plan? Tahiti?

And there was no escape from the Pinkertons or any law enforcement. I learned that really early on and it’s why I stopped caring about the Honour system.
Dutch's plan is very vague, but it basically by the end, it boiled down to "cause a bunch of chaos without the feds knowing it's us so we can escape during all of it", + "get money" + "faith"=Tahiti.

That first part is why he got so pissed, and also because Arthur disobeyed him to go save Eagle Flies. It was because it fucked with the plan because it made Arthur stick around longer than he had too, and because he didn't listen to him.

I firmly believe when rdr3 happens it needs to take place during prohibition and be about smuggling and bootlegging , you can keep rdrs themes and mechanics but also get some of that gta flair with car driving
I was personally hoping for a red dead 3 set in east asia in the 1930s.
Northern China is probably the closest to the wild west as you can come in that era, and it's one of the few locales where it would be natural to have primarily horse riding and some automobiles.
You would also have a wide range of weapons, from sub machine guns, to lever action rifles, to bow and swords.

If I thought R* still had the skill to pull it off, I was hoping we would go back in time a bit more to see Dutch's gang at the height of their "power." We've had two games dealing with the "end of the West." I want to see one that tells a tale set in the Wild West's glory days. A young Dutch, Arthur, and (younger) Hosea coming into their own as outlaws in a post Civil War era West (and maybe a bit of the East). It just seemed a natural progression from the last two games. Maybe we play as Dutch as he schemes to take over an existing gang and we get some insight into what formed the character we see in RDR 1 and 2.

Bottom line: I just want more games set in the Wild West.

I may be giving that scene in the bayou too much credit, but I like to look at it as mocking the kinds of people who ridicule those that were there simply because they read differently. I probably am giving too much credit because of how they handled the slave catcher.
You definetly are. I think if anything, the game just makes me more sympathetic to the Lemoyne Raiders than anything else.

Yeah, I get that they want to be film makers and be "cinematique" but I'm tired of it. These games are about freedom and the fact you're completely shackled to a narrative with no actual agency beyond minor honor differences is fucking stupid.

This was a rumor/purported leak, but it seems like early RDR2 was far looser, and that you could choose where you wanted to move the camp to, and that things were likely more procedural (i.e. you could bring gang members along in free-roam).

It seems like with the Housers moonlighting as movie producers that a lot of that was decided as unworkable and not immersive enough, and was scrapped.

You can still see a lot of the loose ends sticking out though, especially with the mostly-useless camp system, and some bug that allow you to bring gang members along in free-roam (and who have a lot of unused generic voice acting).

Honestly with the Housers out, I'm not sure what Rockstar has in front of it now beyond a RDR1 remaster, that medieval game being floated, and GTA 6.

The best case scenario is a 'cutting back' from some of the bad tropes they've embraced in recent years and a return to less ambitious, but more frequent game releases (pre-GTA V), worst-case scenario is that Rockstar essentially becomes RDO and GTA V's appendage for the foreseeable future. I mean, they're not even handling the GTA Trilogy remaster at this point, right?

Much like RDR1, it's actually a miracle RDR2 came out as well as it did.

It still blows my fucking mind that they were making sweeping changes to the narrative weeks before going gold. IIRC didn't Dan Houser flat out admit they removed an entire love interest from the game at the last minute, and people were assuming it was Eliza once it was revealed she was originally part of the gang with Arthurs son?

But there's no possible way that could have been re-done weeks before going gold, right? There had to be another love interest that was cut, right?

Eliza is the cut love interest, and some of her lines are still in the game's code. Going from the lines of dialogue, and unused assets, the timeline of when she was supposed to appear in-game got switched around a lot during development, and she might not have even been the mother of Arthur's son at the beginning.

The other remaining love interest remaining in the game is Mary Linton, and well, we all know how terrible that turned out.

I tend to over react to memories of people reprimanding me. Like in my memory, they yelled at me a lot harder than they did in real life.

I’m trying to want to finish my second play through to see if and why Dutch was just sadistically angry at me for rescuing Eagle Flies. That non-endearing term “Big Hero” he threw at me really hurt. Then he just coldly walked off when I got ambushed.

I loved this game man.

I didn't even know that. The game's narrative is so well structured while tying into RDR 1 extremely well.

I made it to Chapter 6 in my second playthrough. Good old Beaver Hollow.

My plan is to do this Chapter exactly as I remember. I could choose to blow off Eagle Flies, or reenact that moment when Dutch completely lost his shit on me.

I don’t mean to harp on this like an autistic, it’s just I can’t believe this was the situation that made Dutch completely lose his cool on Arthur Morgan. Being called a “Big Hero” by Dutch made an impression on me.

Also going to do the whole Epilogue. I didn’t even play it my first time because Arthur’s final moment really confused me.

Yes, I'm aware, hence me saying it's really fucking crazy how that could have been completely rewritten and implemented within a month of going gold. Dan was either lying or mistaken about something involving it.

I just wanna say that the prices of shit in this game are hilarious if you apply real-world inflation rates to them. A bowl of oatmeal costs $3 which is over $80 in today's money.

More like around 100 USD, if the website I'm using is correct. So when I said my Arthur Morgan had $4500 in cash on him... that's about 150,000k.
"Yeah, let me just retire to my California estate..." said the man with enough cash on hand to buy a train ticket and rent a comfortable place for the rest of his likely very short life.

I decided to buy this during Steam's Black Friday (or Cyber Monday or whatever it was) sale for 50% off. Figured I'd play it as I hibernate for the winter.

Any mods or fan fixes I should get before starting?

TheProfessional declares Red Dead Online a dead game and kind of goes on a retrospective of how RDO always got fucked over by GTA Online.

He reminded me of the clown movement. I didn't take part but I wish shit like that happened more often in games.

An hour long rant? what

I mean I can pretty much explain why Cockstar heavily neglects RDO in favor of having a bunch of celebrities in a major GTAO update in 5 minutes but why make such a long ass video? seems unnecessary.

He's very upset. He really likes RDOnline and thinks it has a ton of potential that Rockstar has squandered.

It's more of a rant on Rockstar in general, too.

tbh I'm also upset with the state of RDO, i stopped playing after the Naturalist update but came back for a few hours with the Capitale update. (Then realized its literally filler shit and dropped it for good)

The difference is that i've already lost faith in Rockstar/Take Two a long time ago, I stopped playing/modding their games completely and moved on to other games. As much as I like TheProfessional, he spends too much time complaining yet continues to play their games regardless - Which pretty much sums up the state of Rockstar fanboys: No matter how many abuse and neglect they get, the moment Rockstar shits out a new turd then they will all eat it up no matter how polished it is then happily anticipate the next turd.
