i loved wife swap, it was so trashy.

im not a big reality tv fan so this probably griped me more than most people but i hated it when they did the new mom's rules and it would all be clearly be set up by the producers. for the life of me i can't find the clip, but i remember one episode, dont remember if it was the uk or us series but there was a family that argued a lot so one of the rules was that if the family felt like arguing they had to shout into this big fake ear first and if they were still mad, then they had to speak about it like adults. i dont remember anything else but that but it was so stupid.

any episode where a redneck farmer family got forced to eat veggie or where they forced vegetarians eat meat were also brilliant.

Don't know if it's been talked about at all (and the site's search function doesn't wanna cooperate right now for me to find out), but American Idol had a lot of lolcow-worthy people audition. As a matter of fact, even as a little wee babby Darwin, I still loved watching lolcows (though I obviously didn't know the word for it at the time) because it was always something I found hilarious. I never actually gave a fuck about the actual American Idol competition, but I always made sure to watch the auditions and quite frankly wish they'd have spun that off into its own separate show because with how many people they lined up each year, there's no way there wouldn't be a season's worth of material each year to go along with the main series.

I think the two most memorable ones were William Hung and Paula Goodspeed. Hung ended up being somewhat successful as a novelty act, and ironically enough, actually outsold some of the eventual winners, despite not making it past auditions. He retired from music in 2011 to pursue a career as a technical crime analyst. So, he did fairly well for himself all things considered. Goodspeed, on the other hand, was something of a horrorcow who was completely obsessed with Paula Abdul, and mainly auditioned for the show to get close to her (Abdul later said she'd objected to Goodspeed being allowed on the show because she was concerned for her safety, but the producers have said they didn't know about these concerns). She later committed suicide by overdosing on drugs in her car, which was parked outside Paula Abdul's home.

Aside from these two, the people who showed up were generally cut from the same cloth as Eddie Dzial: they were completely convinced of their musical genius, and figured that they could absolutely be "an international sensation in 5 seconds," as Dzial once said of himself. The only thing preventing this, of course, was that pesky lack of recognition. Their utter lack of self-awareness would always cause them to react with genuine surprise when the judges would inevitably laugh at their butchered rendition of whatever song they'd choose to sing. A good many of them would get pissed off and launch into rants at the judges, telling them how much they suck and how stupid they are for not seeing their obvious greatness.

This thread is dead and it’s depressing because I just started watching Wife Swap :( this popped up because I was googling around for some early 00s reality tv discussion. Anyway S2EP8 was a weird one and it’s what got me to just stop watching for now.

Anyone else keeping up with BB23?

I know this isn't the thread but i'm legit surprised no one is talking about big brother this season. basically its the first season where it doesn't have a token black minority but is instead 50% BIPOC and at the start of the season the coons made an alliance to only vote out the whites, and it fucking worked. obviously there are alliances all the time, but this is the only blatantly raced base alliance i've seen on a reality show where race wasn't meant to be a factor (like on some survivor seasons) i'm amazed this isn't getting more traction especially with it being a gameshow that sort of speedruns reality, hell the thing that proposed it was the rare black jew too. its absurd this isn't being talked about more literally anywhere i see online because of a.how open the show is about the alliance b. how controversial it seemingly should be and c. how it truely shows that "hang separately or stand together" mentality people will need to survive in the current day.

Especially with how obsessive the CBS reality show junkies are, its 100% certain this will be either replicated or called out as a possible threat from here until these shows get canceled because of how perfect this tactic was.

I've barely watched BB23 because the show is becoming boring and formulaic. Didn't like the whole thing with the Cookout bascially getting rid of everyone who wasn't white because they wanted a black winner, especially when half of them fucking sucked at the game.

I'd say out of the people on that season, Kyland would make a great lolcow. He's a completely delusional male Karen type who'll likely have a rude awakening after he gets out, especially if he doesn't shut up and disappear after the shit he did.

I don't think the Cookout will happen ever again in the same way as it only helped out one player in particular, and it wasn't even the one who came up with the idea. It also brought some of the worst players in recent BB history to the end. People would have to be really stupid to look at the Cookout and want to replicate that, especially now that there will be a black winner. However, I'm probably wrong.

i mean the alliance led to bad players surviving until the very end and it went from no token surviving this long to a guarantee of a black winner about half way through. if you were a minority or just smart you'd 100% do a cookout alliance. worst case scenario someone that wouldn't have lasted past the first round of voting makes it to the final 8, best case you're a legit good player and now only have to face a handful of dumbasses. either way works out great

thats another reason for non-whites to do it. whites will ally with anyone but can't enter into a cookout alliance. so its an alliance that could be as strong as 50% of the cast outvoting the whites every time

The premise of the show is that people go on dates but with a partition between them so they can't see each other and then finally meet and decide to get married and meet the families and it's a total narcissist shitshow, but dayam he's taking the cake for shallow and self-centered.

I..know him a lil so I'm not unbiased but he is exactly on the show as he is in rn.
