You know those special bolts scattered around R&C levels? Gold, platinum, titanium, etc?

Marcadia originally gave those to Ratchet for completing their arena missions.

As an aside, I loved the Pyrocitor in R&C. One of my first gold weapons.

The flamethrower weapons in most of the games are super useful. Great for crowd control and keeping weaker melee enemies away from you. It was especially great in the first game when you couldn't strafe, and the Pyrociter could keep the anklebiters at bay better than the wrench could.

Where those anklebiters are in Aridia, those robots use a form of the Pyrociter.

I love how each weapon in R&C served a purpose.

The Bomb Glove was a great early weapon for crowds and larger enemies.

The Blaster is a great counter for projectile enemies.

The Tesla Claw is an all around effective weapon for all types, especially bosses.

The Visabomb gun is handy for distance targets, specifically larger ones.

Just a touch of the weapons' advantages.

Honestly, the commercials where they showed off all the weapons were almost as fun as the games themselves. Protip: Don't use the Devastator from your suburban backyard. Ending hilariously is not the same as ending well.

Speaking of the Devastator, another great weapon from the first game. Lock-on, high damage, splash damage and everyone loves a rocket launcher. The gold version was even better since it split off into mini rockets that I believe also tracked on contact

Very handy in the space level, Metropolis for the blimp, and the final level.

A weapon combo that doesn't get much love would be the Taunter and Decoy Glove. That had some tactical advantage to it that would shake up the gameplay.

That is a good combo for grouping up enemies for follow up attacks, but I preferred the more direct approach of shoot shoot bang bang. That and the Taunter/Mine Glove combo. The Mine Glove desperately needed the Taunter to be useful for anything that wasn't trying to charge you

Reminds me, there was one gadget in R&C1 where these little balls would surround you and swarm to enemies. I don't think it's the Sonic Summoner; that's a little guy that would fly over you with a turret.

One weapon I did not like was the Suck Cannon. I liked the concept, but you couldn't pick up crates until the sequel.

You're thinking of the Drones, a nice buffer if enemies get a little too close and can sorta block attacks, but I never found it useful enough to constantly activate. It's not very good. As for the Suck Cannon, great damage(hit about as hard as Devastator), but yeah since you couldn't suck up crates and had to wait for little minions to spawn it was very situational

My least favorite would be the Walloper. If I'm going in close range, I'm using a weapon that doesn't have endlag like your trusty Omniwrench

I feel that was made for laughs. It would lunge you forward upon use. When you only have four hit points initially, that lunge could propel you into an enemy attack.

In Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank, the Walloper would use ammo! Whose bright idea was that? The original didn't have that limitation.

Nah, they just fucked up and made a bad weapon that they thought was cool at the time, which I can forgive since it was the first game. Just like how they fucked up with the Meteor Gun because they thought bigger damage number meant better but didn't think about the function.

I completely forgot that was in the game, but from looking at the wiki it was probably because you could mod it and they were trying to balance it out.

Size Matters tried to be like R&C1, but executed it poorly.

If you remember Ratchet's attitude from the first game, he was cocky and prone to frustration. Eventually, he matured from the end of the game towards Going Commando. In Size Matters, Ratchet starts as self centered and annoyed.

If you're a series veteran, this sudden shift in attitude and motivation established from Going Commando onto Deadlocked was jarring. Especially since Size Matters takes place after Deadlocked and is canon.

Gives me Spyro vibes.

You know, I can't really think of any weapons from the first game that I hated. Disliked yes, had a more preferred weapon, yes, but nothing really stands out to me as actually hated. Not like other ones like the meteor gun I regret upgrading.

I liked how if you had a save file from the trilogy, you could rebuy those weapons.

Going Commando had more balance with their weapons, while Up Your Arsenal had more creativity.

The Meteor Gun would've been a fun weapon if it wasn't the upgrade to the Lava Gun. Like maybe it could upgrade to the "Volcano Gun" or "Asteroid Gun" or something that adds a shotgun effect or maybe occasionally shoots and even bigger asteroid like the rocket launchers typically do that explodes into lava on impact. I don't know, something like that.

I remember not liking how in Up Your Arsenal it upgraded to the Liquid Nitrogen Gun because I wanted to set shit on fire, not freeze it.

Gives me Spyro vibes.
Did any R&C1 levels start out life as designed for Spyro the Dragon? I remember as a kid when I first played it how I immediately recognized sound effects from Spyro in the game, like how small toad-looking enemy on the first planet has the same croak as the frogs from Spyro in some levels that you kill to replenish health.

That was the only diaroma I saw. For some reason, YouTube is recommending me with R&C beta content on YouTube. It'll give me an opportunity to give life in this thread.

What I liked about Going Commando's integration of weapons from R&C1 is the advancement of technology from both games. There's a skill point where you use R&C1 weapons exclusively.

They can still hold their own, but it'll take a few hits to defeat enemies. Weapons like the Tesla Claw or Visibomb Gun that could clear a room in R&C 1 will take some time in R&C2.

I always thought that was meant to be a nerf to make you stick with the new weapons and not have powerful shit from the first game given to you for free just because you had a save file from R&C1 on your memory card. It's kind of disappointing too since the Tesla Claw is such a cool weapon and one of my favorites from the first game.

Although I guess it makes sense in context given how you get the weapons used (?) and in a remote storefront that's basically closing up.

Makes sense in a gameplay and lore perspective.

Did Deadlocked use Gadgetron?
